@ptatc u around? They’re pretty good at diagnosing ACL tears by touch right? I think I remember learning that from u.

But what the law thinks…matters a lot.
-
It is damned interesting how the owners put out that proposal and within 24 hours the "Defend the owners" side has become "oh so the season is probably lost, it's not a big deal, who really cares about baseball".
-
I think the owners following a path that is likely to cause a large part of the season to be canceled, while pushing the line of legality, is plenty of reason to be bitter.
-
Thank you for providing your additional insight into the offer made yesterday by the union with this detailed and on-subject comment.
-
If you don't care, even if the season gets canceled, then why are you in this thread?

Bargaining in good faith means, under US law, that you are putting forward proposals that are making a sincere effort to come to an agreement. Surficial bargaining, by definition, is one party "going through the motions" with no intention of coming to an agreement. A party that locks out the other party for 43 days with no real contact, then puts out a proposal that makes no progress, could have been offered prior to the start of the labor dispute, and in fact steps backwards on at least one issue, to my eyes, has clearly demonstrated they have no intention of coming to an agreement and therefore they are not bargaining in good faith. In that case, it does not matter what the players are actually willing to compromise on because the owners are not bargaining in good faith. US Labor law now may be too weak to enforce that standard any more, but it's very obvious by their actions and this proposal that it the owners are not bargaining in good faith by any reasonable standard.
-
Are both sides making good faith proposals to try to deal with the labor issues or is one side attempting a "scorched-earth" type program to try to break the other?
-
Are you asking for the players to agree to a lower salary cap?
-
I am not surprised that the owners are pushing a policy that will likely cost the 2022 season. But that's because I think very lowly of the people you are defending. Spoiler alert - the owners are using you in a PR battle right now.

So I think the most important point I have is this one. That proposal is basically the status quote, with a few minor tweaks. There is zero reason that proposal couldn’t, and in fact shouldn’t have been made in October. There’s no revolutionary idea that will reshape the game or even reshape negotiations, nothing that required months of work to prepare. Pieces of it could well wind up in a final deal, but it doesn’t address the Union’s biggest issues. If it was presented in October then the sides could have been working to take pieces from it and pieces from the Union’s proposals to come up with an actual agreement. There is only 1 reason why they would wait through a 43 day lockout before presenting that type of a proposal and it’s a nasty one. The owners have every intention of extending this through much of the season, hoping that the union will crack and the regular players will vote to accept an offer like that. They knew it wouldn’t be accepted in October without them having to compromise and they’re willing to gamble that upping the pressure through loss of games will cause the Union to break.

The owners’ proposal would make Cleveland’s payroll about $30 million.
-
The owners are offended that you would give such an unprecedented and extreme proposal.
-
It’s like their proposal to outsource arbitration to Fangraphs - rely on some sportswriters. “Everyone I have wonderful news. Keith Law will determine whether or not the White Sox get an extra draft pick next year. “
-
Is that solely by dollars again?
-
Just quick numbers, guess roughly 500 players on minimum contracts, $30,000 times 500 is $15 million. That seems to be worth less than one single super 2 arbitration deal. And I’m pretty sure I overguessed on players affected.
-
This sounds like a big negative for the players? A few positive parts to the details here but with a big negative that offsets a bunch.
-
The NFL also deserves this - starting the week there were 3 black head coaches. 2 of them were fired in ways that seem to raise eyebrows in 4 days. Mike Tomlin is the only black head coach in the league now. That's just not something that happens by chance, in a league with this many black players.
-
Even “the coach and front office weren’t on the same page” wouldn’t really make sense here. There’s no talented kids he’s refusing to play, they don’t have any. There’s not enough talent to care about schemes, as long as the players didn’t quit on him. Are they mad he didn’t play Tyrod Taylor more? Only way it would be justified is if he had some Urban Meyer stuff?
-
All right, now that was undeserved.

You can see how in this thread people are like “I don’t want this guy for reason X” and the next post adds some important context or a different perspective. Aside from Harbaugh being a top candidate and being turned down by everyone and raiding the CFL, I struggle to see how any of the candidates named so far is obviously a bad option. Have to see how things come together for a year or two to really judge.

Caruso was COVID right? God he must have been a mess he’s been gone for weeks.

Apparently he was the offensive coordinator the year Bortles and the Jaguars made the AFC Championship game. Fired middle of the next season. He has the Bears, Broncos, and Jaguars on his interview list this week. https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/2022/1/12/22879921/packers-oc-nathaniel-hackett-adds-head-coach-interview-with-bears-to-busy-itinerary

I don’t hate strategies to alter the draft like this, but I think that it leaves the fundamental problem untouched. If MLB gives each team $100 million in shared revenues before they sell a single ticket, and a team can field a roster for $40 million, then an owner can pocket the difference year after year. If that owner doesn’t get a high draft pick, he says oh well, I made my money, and they stay bad. That is bad for baseball as a whole because you can’t grow a fan base in an area like Miami if the team wins 60 games every single year. Why cheer for that team? Why buy your kids merchandise from that team? Why go to more than a game every couple years?
