2022 Hall of Fame ballot - Ortiz in; Bonds/Clemens NOT
Balta1701 replied to flavum's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Oh we’ve seen worse. Page 1 or 2 of this thread has a guy voting for Bonds but not Clemens. You can find an evisceration of it by me as well (Clemens had a higher career WAR than Kershaw does now at the point the Mitchell report says he started). I can respect “we will do the best we can to keep these guys out until the Hall does something specific where we can put them. We may miss some, but we will stop most”. In that case you can’t vote for Ortiz either. I can mostly respect “baseball wasn’t enforcing this rule so just count it and put them all in” even if I disagree. The half excuses of Ortiz is ok and ARoid is not or Bonds gets in but Tetrahydrogestrinone does not because he was clean until 1998 are bad to me. You’re admitting you think these guys shouldn’t get in for cheating but assuming you can pick exactly when they started. You can’t. Beyond that they get even lamer. Ortiz is ok and Tetrahydrogestrinone is not…ugh. But of course, because this is the worst timeline, that incoherent ugh is what we get. -

Neither was Sosa. Nor McGwire. -

I’m pretty sure it’s the opposite. -

i always ask...how do you know for certain when they started? Could Clemens have grabbed the "leaded" coffee in 1987? Could Bonds have done some cycles of Winstrol in the early 90s or even the mid 80s - that's the one Palmeiro was on that didn't make his body explode. McGwire was on stuff when he came up and he wasn't nearly the size he grew to in the 90s. We know of 2 anecdotes - the Mitchell Report said Clemens started in Torotno, and a book that came out in '06 or so said that Bonds told Griffey he was going to "go on the hard stuff" while having a dinner with him after the 1998 season, but Griffey denied that took place. Even if it did, maybe "Go on the hard stuff" meant he was doing softer stuff beforehand? How does a guy with no steroid experience know to go find BALCO? Just something everyone knew? Or he was already working with a trainer who was an expert in who to contact to find the hard stuff? Hmm... -

I will vote for him as soon as he gives us the results of the investigation he said he was launching into his reported positive test in the 2003 survey testing. It's been what, 13 years, so that should be coming any day now. -

71-73 WAR, 3000 hits, should be a first ballot guy even if he never played a playoff game. -

That's where you remove PATs after a couple of possessions. If both teams have matched each other once or twice, now they're required to go for 2, and both teams won't succeed on that every single time. That wouldn't be any longer than a normal quarter. And you always take the ball 2nd if you win that coin toss, because you know what you need to do to match/win the game in that case. If KC scored 7, Buffalo matches, they get to decide if they want to go for 2 to win it.
-
Bah, let teams go for 2 on the first TD if they want, better drama. KC scores a TD, Bills match with a TD - Bills want to go for 2 to win/lose the game on one play? Go ahead. Helluva TV moment. If you get through what, 2 cycles of teams trading the ball, then no PATs, required to go for 2.
-
Bah no weird counting plays. A passing team always wins against Tennessee in that case while Derrick Henry gets 9 yards a carry. In the playoffs, one team scores, they kick to the other and that team has a chance to match. If they do, reverse the order of teams and go again. First team to outdo the other wins. Throw in the college like 2 point conversion rule. I mean, no one wanted that game to continue right? CBS had to get on to NCIS Kamchatka or whatever. The NFL didn’t want any more money for me watching.
-
I know Buffalo had to stop him and couldn’t, but man, that game ending because of a coin toss? Sucks.

Am I getting all this right… a first, two thirds, and a fourth for Trubisky, two firsts for Fields, a fourth for Foles. $10 million for Dalton, $20 million for Glennon, $20 million for Trubisky, $24 million cap hut for Foles, next year will be up to like $10 million for Fields? So 7 draft picks and over $80 million in cap space over about a 6 year period?
-
Just to keep saying it, someone should hire Bieniemy.
-
I really don’t know why people think “you only get one shot at this” is the case in the NFL. Ryan Pace was GM for 7 years. In that time, he inherited Cutler, acquired Glennon and Dalton as FAs, traded for Foles, and drafted Fields and Trubisky. For only getting one chance, he seems to have gotten 5. Plus, he had chances to draft QBs like Prescott and Hurts who are now starting other places. A little more restrictive on coaches I will grant, but Trubisky, Dalton, and Foles we’re all given to Nagy, and if he had wanted someone different he could have worked with the GM on that. Plus, these guys are paid very well for these jobs. And to top that off, these guys will likely land on their feet. Nagy can be a coordinator again, and if he has success there - we are seeing a few retreads who might get chances this year already. As long as your team doesn’t implode like under Trestman, the GM and coach have a number of chances to figure this out Ofer the next 3-4 years.
-
Maybe the White Sox’s owner isn’t willing to let money be spent on these guys until he knows the status of his big league revenue for the season?
-
There’s a decent chance the Bulls and Bucks match up in round 1.

LOL.

Eloy is absolutely a question mark when he has major issues staying healthy and those injuries affect his offensive performance.
-
If KCJ said so it's bankable as true, and potentially something someone wants out there.
-
I think league-wide the giant surge of November signings did a lot more for fan interest than the annual 3 month sagas of no one wanting to sign players that we've gotten used to.
-
I think they would have brought up the lefty bat once Mercedes was struggling and once Grandal hit his injury. But ah well.

Here’s the problem - a very young roster shouldn’t be bumping up against the luxury tax with several glaring holes.
