  1. Just for reference, I will cheer for the Bulls against the Warriors, but will not be mad at all if that team wins it without the trophy seeking forward from their last run. Make it at least 6 games?
  2. I would imagine there will be a meeting within a week under pretty much any circumstances. Even if neither side is ready to give an inch, it’s been a while, a deadline is going to be only a couple weeks away, and you just have to stay in contact if only to repeat everything you already said for the sake of appearances.
  3. Who was the Missouri fan or fans here? Connor Bazelak, any opinions?
  4. I don't know that the Mets aren't in "stupid mode" right now but that's a very bad deal for the Mets. Giving up 3 years of control on McNeil for 1 year of Bassitt is really bad on paper.
  5. Yeah, but could that team have stayed in the race all 162 with how their pitching staff was crumbling?
  6. I am struggling to see how you get a player like this with the lower level pieces available in the White Sox’s organization. What’s the going rate for a guy with a 5 WAR season and on pace for a 4.5 WAR season with 3 years of control and a down season with some injuries? It’s rare enough that there’s no perfect comparison, but you’re typically talking about more than 1 top 100 prospect for that. Again not a perfect comparison, but think of the Quintana deal - 3.5 years of control, previous 5 win season, numbers trending downwards, brought back Eloy and Dylan. Or if Moncada hadn’t signed that contract extension and the White Sox tried to trade him after 2020 (3 years of control left, previous 5 win season, bad year due to illness) without bringing back any top prospects, we would have all been stunned. We discussed a page ago whether there was a bigger mechanical issue with him, and maybe other teams see that and it suppresses bidding, but in the context of other 5 WAR players traded with that much control even Crochet as a headliner seems weak without another strong prospect.
  7. Me neither. Anyway, to be clear - people doing what Manfred did here has always existed - that’s what the poster I replied to said. It won’t happen here, but sometimes lately, a powerful person hurting people with less power has triggered a negative response, even with actual consequences. This is so outrageous we have a new term for it - cancel culture. So it’s true this kind of ? by Manfred has always happened, but the shiny new term on it is reflecting something different. Something fairly new in this case - all the baseball fans know what the coward did and some will remember it.
  8. A wimpy businessman in a role too big for him firing people for minimal criticism is not new. Him suffering any real consequences for doing so…would be.
  9. The concept of important white people like Manfred having consequences for things they say and do…is. That’s why they need a new term for it.
  10. If we are being honest - 2020 is sort of a half credit, since the playoffs were expanded there making it so a below .500 team could make it. But at the same time, the White Sox should have 2 more years where they are a serious playoff threat.
  11. It’s the Mets so I won’t say anything is impossible, but the Mets would have been in a very high tax bracket in the last CBA. If things don’t change dramatically, this would add $20 million to their payroll without giving them any starting pitching help, which they say they want. And that’s without my normal caveat that Kimbrel isn’t even worth his current contract.
  12. Although I don't know if anyone's actually doing this given the current circumstances, that's the kind of thing you leak to a reporter to tweet when you're trying to drive teams to put a good offer on the table for a guy you're likely to move. "Oh we might not actually move this guy, we might move this other guy, so you better come to us with your best deal!"
  13. There’s an episode of Star Trek The Next Generation called Shades of Grey. Riker gets his brain infected by things and must relive bad memories to kill them. It is generally agreed to be one of the worst 2 episodes of TNG. This description is exceedingly relevant to the Matrix: Resurrection.
  14. Yeah, I was wrong on that, I wasn't thinking last night about Bassitt only having 1 year remaining.
  15. I don’t see why the Mets would give up prospects here. McNeil for Bassitt looks heavily one-sided in favor of the Mets given 3 years of control to 1. So the White Sox don’t part with their top guy, I get that now since Bassitt’s control is one year, but if anything the White Sox have to send multiple players for Bassitt and probably another good piece to the Mets to make it work.
  16. Presumably the thing going back to the A's in this scenario is Vaughn?
  17. Approximately 1 manfred in the appropriate units.
  18. I can’t take credit for this response but loved it.
  19. The details need to be in more than a click through tweet
  20. The White Sox are in this screwy economic zone where they have way more limits on their resources than a team like the Cubs or Phillies (whether those limits are justified or just ownership taking profits is a matter for discussion)...but they don't get the extra draft benefits that the Cardinals, Tigers, and Padres get.
  21. Does Steve Cohen care that much about salary relief?
  22. Devil's advocate position. Won't the Dodgers just lock up their division in perpetuity if they get a few extra international signings? Or the Astros?
  23. Wasn’t that the year they lost in the conference finals? Anyone who would be disappointed with a conference finals appearance for this Bulls team?
  24. It does give those teams enough draft picks that it overcomes their own incompetence sometimes.
