QUOTE (BFirebird @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Yeah I am not sure where the Adrian Gonzalez top 5 hitter in the league is coming from. 2 words; ballpark factor. There were 3 guys in MLB with a higher OPS+ than AGon last year: Mauer, Pujols, and Fielder. Yeah, it's only 1 year, but you can't ignore it. Mauer's only had 1 year above 145 as well.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Adrian has had only one OPS+ over 150 which was last year. Miggy has done that 3 times before he turned 25 and just had a 142 OPS+ last year adjusting to the AL (which will probably continue to go up this comming season and is a year younger). I love Adrian but saying he's "better" than Miguel Cabrera is utterly stupid. Sure you can say they are "close" or even Miggy is "slightly better" but don't bring that hyperbole in this thread. That's all I'm saying. Wasn't disagreeing with any of that. I think I was just trying to point out how close their number are. And it's entirely within the realm of possibility that the next couple years, Gonzalez could be genuinely better.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) Wow on the rumor... and Steve shut up about Adrian being better than Miggy please. K thanks. Cabrera's OPS the last 2 years; .915. Gonzalez; .913. He's not exactly better than him for his full career, but Gonzalez's numbers last year were just sick, and he's been trending upwards year after year.

Vastly underestimating our ability to be disgusted, you are.

Too much information, or not enough?

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) Konerko would be LAA's way of replacing Vlad but maintaining some flexibility with finances for 2011. I think we'd have to give LAA money in the original permutation of the deal. LAA also has a lot of money coming off the Books right now (Vlad, Figgins, Lackey). The bad news for them is that means they have to replace some of those guys, the good news is that means they have the money to do it.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) that is my understanding What I believe you can do with a recent draftee is put them on a PTBNL list and not actually name them for up to 6 months. Since the draft happens late June, that means Mitchell could be dealt as a PTBNL in late December, I think.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 12:35 PM) If I'm KW, I have no issues giving them any of our prospects. The only guy I'd REALLY want to keep is Flowers, but anyone other than that can go. Thing is, I also don't see them dealing Danks2, so that might become an issue, but who knows. If they wanted Flowers, I'd still pull the trigger depending on who else was involved. You have the opportunity of adding a premier LH bat with a ton of power and great defense who is in his prime and cheaper than dirt for 2 years. Yeah, i know the arguments. Basically, here's what it comes down to for me...if you ask me individually would I give up any of Hudson, Flowers, D2, Viciedo, Morel, etc., for this guy, the answer is obviously yes. But when you start combining those guys together, that's where I start getting more troubled.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) As far as I would be concerned, not an issue at all. Yeah, even the guys who don't like giving up young players (i.e. me) would do it with Hudson as a starting point. It's giving up all of our top 4-5 guys that would trouble me.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) One way or another Soxnet will get a rep over this. Quite an interesting scene it is.

Memoir's gonna be great.

Jack Egbert was claimed on Waivers by the Mets earlier this year.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) Great, this thing is getting crazier by the minute. Hey, you're the one who brought the Mets into this, not me.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) Egbert involved in the deal? Four way deal now involving the Mets?
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 10:16 AM) I wonder if there's some way they can do this and send the farm minus Hudson. oooh I would seriously doubt that.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 10:10 AM) Playing devils advocate, my hometown houses a maximum security prison, where they also happen to do all of the executions for the state of Indiana. We have had a few escapes, including three inmates who were out for about a week. Escapes do happen in our prison system, it isn't a big leap to think of escaped terrorists running around. While that I understand...I will note that there's a difference between the Michigan City Max. Security facility and a legit Supermax.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) There's a negotiation period between players and their former teams, and I'm not sure we're past that yet. Maybe we are. Once that negotiation period ends then free agents can sign anywhere. We're past the exclusive negotiating period; that's 10 days after the W.S. ends, I'm 90% sure.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) It's not like Manning was lighting the world on fire the entire game though. I'd still be absolutely shocked if you gave Manning the ball with 2:00 on the clock and 70 yards to go and he didn't pull it off. That's just what guys like him do.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) It would be weird to see the Sox without Konerko. When does free agency start? It's already started. The arbitration deadline hasn't passed yet, so you don't want to sign a type A FA who won't be offered arbitration just yet (because it'll guarantee you lose a draft pick if you do). But we're past the "10 days after the end of the world series" deadline for people to declare as free agents and for teams to start signing them.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) I have yet to see a single person say that there are no other threats until that jail were to happen. That is just making stuff up. Then the question is...would housing these guys cause any reasonably significant increase in the level of threat people are under? I can't for the life of me fathom how it would.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 09:39 AM) Probably also need to include at least 1 if not 2 of Flowers/Danks/Viciedo too The Sox could put in an extra piece or two certainly. but the whole idea here would be...a fair deal for AGon without picking up another high ceiling player might be a 4-5 for 1 deal, involving basically everyone we have. Deal Konerko, suddenly find yourself having salary flexibility if you don't send over too much money, pick up another guy that you can stick in that deal such that you don't need to send over all those guys. I'd bet you could pull it off.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) What sources did you guys get this from? There's no way we get Gonzalez for Pauly and spects. Konerko to the Angels for Wood, Wood and Hudson to the Padres for AGon?
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 09:29 AM) I thought the Angels had a first baseman? Could Konerko play center field? The Angels still have a solid OF with Rivera, Hunter, and Abreu, unless they want to move Abreu to DH. What they might be missing in their lineup right now is a replacement for Vlad though.
