  1. Can we add "Music tastes" in behind "Pizza toppings" on the list of things people will never agree upon?
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) I really thought Danksy might have to repeat AA. Now, i'm starting to think that AAA might be more likely. I'm not 100% on this, but i wouldn't rule out a Beckham like path here. Maybe two months at AA, and then a steady progression. I still think MLB Pitching will absolutely eat him alive if he can't cut down on the strikeouts.
  3. Zero posters will be happy with that list in the end, I think.
  4. Tracy (Rockies) and Scioscia are your managers of the year. Gardenhire comes in 2nd.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) You mean like they punished FDR? From when FDR started, unemployment kept going down, not up. Until of course he listened to the deficit hawks in 1936 and cut back on the support programs.
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) Well, look at the bright side. If you can keep the economy f***ed up, and no jobs, there won't be inflation. I'm starting to realize that is their plan to keep the government spending and the printing presses going without the inflation spike. Really, you actually think their goal is to keep people out of work so that the government can get bigger? Because they clearly won't be punished at the ballot box if people are kept out of work? To respond with a bit of reality, despite the huge growth in debt and the money supply, interest rates paid on government debt are still near historic lows (although they've recovered from the crisis point last year), based on historic estimations the ideal interest rate right now from the fed should be something like -5% (which they can't get to because of the zero bound), we're probably years away from having employment drop enough that consumer demand could genuinely push inflation, the fed has virtually infinite power right now to fight inflation since interest rates are so low, and as shown by the interest rates, there is not even a credible belief in the markets that inflation is in the offing, even if that would be one way to rebuild the foundation of the economy and get out of the trade deficit mess.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) Which now means he = Sarah Palin To be fair, he ought to know better, even if it was a spur of the moment thing while on TV, but I'm sure I've screwed up units that badly at some point before as well.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) Source? Balta? Yes, it appears he said that last night. He's off by a factor of 10^3: should have said several thousand degrees, not several million.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) You are assuming mutual exclusivity. The poll numbers I saw (I'll have to go find it) had Palin's numbers less than all the others in every positive way. She was trounced. Palin may have 30% support, but others had well above that, adding up to more than 100%. Some interesting reading from Silver...10 reasons why Palin might win the nomination in 2012.
  10. Very interesting I find it that you're still typing here if you think this thread should die.
  11. QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 10:10 AM) Stay Classy. Unbelievable. Is the "Unbelievable" there sarcastic? Because I don't see what about it is unbelievable.
  12. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 09:27 AM) Gonzo gave props to SoxNet for the Peave trade. Said the AG trade has "very short legs" What in the world does that mean?
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 07:58 AM) As do I. But for a team with a limited payroll, a team that's proven they will not bid on elite free agents, a team that has as many holes as we do, good luck fielding a team that can consistently get to the postseason without being able to develop their own talent. There's 2 ways to look at it. If we were to deal the farm for Gonzalez right now, we'd have what would look like a fairly stacked team next year assuming we signed a corner OF somewhere. Barring injury, you'd have a Hell of a starting rotation, 2 guys in the lineup who can legitimately hit 40+ home runs, a lot of speed, a bullpen that might need another piece but who's doesn't. You'd have as legitimate of a shot at a 2 year run as the Phillies had when they traded for Lee. The downside though is what is going to happen after 2011. Buehrle and Gonzalez have their contracts up, Jenks is likely gone, Peavy's a year away from gone, Danks and Floyd are really expensive and gone after 2012. The real rub though is...that's at the same time that Beckham's going to be hitting his prime 26-30 years. It's possible KW may draft well enough to rebuild on the fly, esp. if he has another high pick to work with or if he nails some of the lower rounds, and this will all become moot. But if you do go for the Gonzalez trade right now, you're gambling on having very little remaining around Beckham and a guaranteed rebuilding period starting in 2012. Could be worth it.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 08:05 AM) OK, then she's popular by your standards. Doesn't really change what I was trying to say. She's has a cult following, if you will. In a multi-way primary though...a cult following of 40% of the voters is enough to, you know, win.
  15. Gotta wonder who's going to beat me to this letter.
  16. Yowza, is Flax ever late on that one.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) He despises anyone who could threaten his job... which is pretty much anyone with Comedy Central and ESPN. I have a sudden urge to attempt to do to Cowley what Stephen Colbert has done to O'Reilly and now Beck.
