If you're an NFL GM, what round would you pick Lebron?

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) There is a school of thought out there that says that while size in receivers/tes is important, there's a point where you actually can be too tall to be effective. Usually over 6'6". I'd say that he'd be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round by name only, then be made to prove his football skills. I kinda get the feeling he might make a serious linebacker. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) I wouldn't be shocked if our pick was a raw pitcher to stick into the pen ala Johan Santana. Hell, we could really use a lefty.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) I love how Democrats keep defining what the Republican party should look like and how they keep painting "tea bagger" people as lunatics (i.e. conservatives) who shouldn't be given the time of day. But then again, Reagan was a lunatic as well. My larger point is that there's a lot of Democrats who love the McCain's of the world, and that got Republicans NOTHING. There's a lot of Republicans who adored the Administration who's name must not be spoken too. And look where that got them.

QUOTE (almagest @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) We basically already did that. Sure would be nice to see it again, though. Those guys gave up runs. I'm not sure that this group would. -

QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) I understand your point, but I also look at the club and don't see any glaring holes outside of a lead-off hitter. I'd love to upgrade at several positions, but the guys we have (for example, Paul Konerko) are competent enough that it's not easy to make wholesale changes. I do really hope they find a way to add another big bat to the middle of that lineup though because I do think that lineup needs to get better as opposed to staying about the same as last year. There's reason for some hope. If Quentin is healthy for a good chunk of the year, that's a monster bat that we just didn't have last year. Rios is another prime candidate to be a big time upgrade. We get Beckham the full year, and hopefully avoid the sophomore slump. Alexei needs to avoid the 2 months of forgetting how to hit a breaking ball, but he could also be better. Teahen has a lot of upside, but if nothing else even if all he does is put up what he did last year, we get more offense out of him than we did from Getz/Fields. Yeah, not all of these are likely to happen. AJ probably will be down from last season, and who knows if PK can stay healthy and consistent this year. We absolutely need to fill the RF and DH slots with someone competent. If we can do that and figure out who leads off, then this team could be in better shape offensively than we think. -
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:51 PM) Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweeted that the Yankees are shopping Swisher. What a shocker. http://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/5863286864 Considering that they're losing their corner OF's anyway...yeah.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:41 PM) You are probably right that this is their plan.....if so then a trade of prospects is all but assured. If not then we're looking at a big Pods/Thome/Flowers/Kotsay stew. I have no problem with that show...except I'm not sure I like the Pods part. For once we're actually too left handed if we bring back Thome and also have Teahen in the lineup. Although I just can't figure out who else would lead off. -
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) Bernanke's greatest fear in the world is deflation. I think it's actually that Blankfein will decide to push the off button and have him shut down and decommissioned.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) I'm probably in the minority here, but if we're not going to go all out this year, then lets keep our money Trading for Peavy and picking up Rios and then not goign for it all this year...that strikes me as a poor plan. This rotation...you get into the playoffs and you could have 4 straight guys pitch CG Shutouts. We've got the fancy rotation, let's ride it before people get hurt or before they hit FA. -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) Is mathematical science a science? Is computer science a science? I tend to agree with the no it's not a science in the way chemistry, biology, geology etc are sciences. I bet you wouldn't have included geology if I wasn't at this site

The rule 5 draft is the one where you have to keep the player on your roster for a full season to keep him, correct?

QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) Brandon Allen has had an awful AFL. Batting .164. KW knew. That's why he traded him.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) Who even knows what kind of contracts are going to be given out at this point anyway, when i see the Cubs signing Grabow to a 7 million dollar contract I am thinking we wont be able to afford anything of substance. That's a 2 year deal for 7 million though. For a Lefty reliever that's about the going rate. If we want to keep Thornton after this season it's going to cost more than that. There are a lot more average OF's on the market than there are average Lefty Relievers. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) What do you guys think about Marlon Byrd? I read that the Rangers let him become a free agent. He's a reasonable option to fill an OF spot. There's more than a few of those available though. He'd probably be somewhere around average for us with the bat, and I'd be willing to take average. No one's going to race out and give him a huge contract before January through, so, like filling the DH spot, patience young Jedi. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) Think post WWI Germany. Germany wasn't exactly dealing with the threat of deflation and there were some serious political issues at play (i.e. reparations) there driving that as well.

Yeah, the 3-4 days with no games were a bit excessive.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) Deflation isn't a concern, at least in the near term. Only way its a concern is if the economy not only dips again in the next few years, but dips well below the current levels across the board. Virtually no one is predicting that. If that corner case did happen, we'd obviously have massive problems. I agree near-term deflation is no longer a concern, but it's no longer a concern because the government and the Fed have been printing money to make sure it isn't a concern. Hence my response to him; if it becomes a concern again, then that means that the threat of inflation will have decreased to even less than the very-close-to-nil it currently is sitting at, and thus the government can continue printing money.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 09:19 AM) Employment sucks and will for years. Ergo housing will have a second leg down. Period. And pretty soon the gov't will move to 100% of the mortgage mkt. We will be praying for only a double dip. Deflation is the biggest worry. And when "they " can't "stimulate" anymore, buckle up and strap it down, Hawk. It will get fugly. This is contradictory. If deflation is the biggest worry then the government will have virtually infinite space for additional stimulus as long as they don't listen to the Hoover party.
