  1. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) Pita bread is good stuff. Quit being selfish and share.
  2. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) Energy should be focused on your thesis, no? And Pants, your check is in the mail. Moving is at the top of my list now. That thesis is defended.
  3. If the Minority wants to filibuster, they should have to maintain their membership on the floor and shut down the rest of the Senate in the process.
  4. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 12:24 PM) Balta, BigSqwert, CanOCorn, Tex, FlaSoxxJim, SS2K, etc. This thread hands down has the best concentration of posters on the entire site. Destroy this thread...and take them all out at once.
  5. Xenurine sausage, that I could see you making at home.
  6. So your argument is that you think he should have gotten an ARM? That would have been a stellar idea. Anyway...there was in fact an interest rate spike associated with the deficits that were being run there, and thus interest rates did in fact go up from the point in 2003-2004. That then caused a massive bust in the housing market, and removed the inflationary pressure that running a structural deficit would create. That's called "Different circumstance" or something to that effect. Running a large structural deficit during boom times = bad, running a deficit during the largest bust in 70 years = the correct resposne.
  7. Remember a few of those at a local stand near where I used to work.
  8. Perhaps I should one day again have a chicago style hot dog.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) Rice's career was more compact. His peak numbers were over a 10-12 year period where he was clearly one of the elite run producers and feared hitters in baseball. Baines accumulated big numbers over 20+ seasons. If you're an "accumulator", you have to get to 500 homers and/or 3000 hits. Baines didn't get to either and he never got close to winning an MVP. He came in 9th once and 10th once. He just doesn't cut it as a Hall of Fame player. He got his number retired and a statue from the White Sox...that's his Hall of Fame. I wonder if Rice would have gotten in had he played outside of NE.
  10. Derek Jeter honored for having fewer hits than Harold Baines
  11. Gotta decide whether to pop another champagne bottle or just hit the Whiskey when I get home.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) I don't get it...if he won't reach arbitration until after 2010, he won't be a free agent until after 2013... And he likely wouldn't reach $9-10 million until 2012 or 2013... If he had the kind of year it looked like he was capable of, he could legit ask for $8-10 mil as an opening arbitration bid. Ryan Howard won a $10 million bid a year or so ago didn't he? But of course, if he hit that well we'd probably have a world series under our belts, so we might not mind.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) Xanax or Xylocaine? You'll be more interested in how he has to take it rather than what it is.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) Upton has a world of talent. We're talking a guy who could put up 30-40. If he could ever get his s*** together. His problem is that he's lazy, the minute he gets his head in the game, he'll set the world on fire. Look at his results in the playoffs when he has something to play for there's no stopping him. And he has injury problems too, it seems.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) I'd rather keep the young guys and rebuild than throw a bunch of prospects at another AL team for a guy due for a giant payday. What's upton's contract/Arb status?
  16. Red Hook is the only one I've had that I can think of or find.
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) Upton would definitely cost a lot...unsure if he'd be worth it. Since we already have a guy who can hopefully play a solid CF for us...our need for Upton is a little less than what other teams might have, esp. if he can't work as a leadoff hitter. It really doesn't make sense for this team to overpay for him. The thing that it would make sense for this team to overpay for would be a corner OF or a really big, 40 HR type bat somewhere on the field. If we're going to deal for Upton, we better feel like the Rays sold low.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Congress is essentially one big bribe fest, even for things that don't matter. It doesn't surprise me at all that they see zero problem with taking advantage of something that Obama has made his centerpiece. They know it HAS to be passed, so it is going to be LOADED with pork. Worked for the banking bailout.
