QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) http://www.rr.com/news/news/article/rr/900...summer_09/full/ Ceaseless deaths of the famous mark summer '09 It'd be nice if there was some way of saying with a measure of statistical significant that there was an above-average number of them.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) I dont know how to explain it but Guillen respects guys like Bradley more than, say, Swisher or OCab. Bradley under Washington was great, right? It could work. We could try something else that would fail in a totally different way. I like the thought of Bradley and Kotsay being here next year...Pods can DH some that way. You don't want Bradley playing the field very much, if at all.

Top-5 prospects Kenny will trade this offseason
Balta1701 replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) I don't know if Egbert or Torres are going to have much value beyond that of another Broadway-for-Castro or Anderson-for-Kotsay type deal where we basically send a name over for a spare part who has been/will be DFA'd. Harrell could go but he has the stuff to pitch out of the bullpen, so I imagine the Sox will at least experiment with that first. The Sox should send as many relievers as possible to ST next season because there should be at least one spot open for a righty. My guess is Egbert will probably be dropped from the 40-man and end up with a new team in ST, Torres will be kept on as an emergency option in AAA, Fields will be traded for low-level projects like Aardsma was or he'll be the throw-in in a bigger deal, and Harrell will be among those in ST 2010 trying to find a role in the bullpen. Pretty much my thoughts as well. KW might go to someone like the Padres or Nationals and figure out a way to do a 3 or 4 for 1 swap to clear some of the chaff like Fields and Egbert who, like it or not, we just don't have room for, Torres will be kept as an option unless someone offers us something legit for us (Which could happen, frankly), and the other guys...I don't see them moving any of the guys we really think could be top level guys (Mitchell, D2: the Mighty Danks, Viciedo, Hudson, Flowers) because of the amount we have invested in them and I don't think the next tier (CJ, Morel) have established themselves enough yet to make them genuinely worth a lot to another team. If there's a shakeup this offseason, it's going to be something surprising happening at the big league level. One of the If's being moved, or a major bullpen shakeup. Something like that. Of course, KW has this odd habit of shocking all of us. -
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) Is he a fit for our park at a power position? not really. But if any place would get the reporters off his back, it would be the one w/ soundbyte machine Ozzie Guillen. Lets remember how incident free Carl Everett was here. Everett still had incidents. There was an early 2005 magazine interview IIRC that he did his usual rant in. He bashed the team some when he left as well.

If the Cubs paid 1/2 his salary.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) Well, here's what I'm saying. The Pitt Oline is VERY bad. And Especially at the guard T. Harris was matched up against, I expected domination. He was pretty much average yesterday, that is a very bad sign for me. How do you define average though? Because the things that usually are a sign of a decent DT performance happened. Pitt couldn't run the ball and the D-Line got pressure on Ben, which is never easy with him because of how much he moves around. Those things could easily be happening in spite of Harris, but I'm not convinced yet.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 09:27 AM) KW does shake up the minors each offseason and in ST, but a lot of those moves are lower level prospects. When you look at the post-season FS Top 25 (to come out soon), and look back at that list on April 1st, I'd be about a quarter of the 40 or so names receiving votes will be elsewhere. How much of that is because of the filler though? Josh Fields is going to be gone, for example, because he's out of options and just doesn't have a role on this infield right now. Unless they can move him to OF. Egbert, Torres, Harrell may be in similar boats; packaged for a reliever or something like that to clear some space for others to move up. Link, Nunez probably will get shots at the last spot in the bullpen. etc. -
Nearly a million fake copies of the NY Post with article about the Climate and Health Care crises and a headline saying "We're screwed!" were passed out today.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 09:27 AM) I don't know about that, I was on the same boat, but he made a couple plays in the backfield were too impressive for me to call him garbage. Anyone else got an opinion on Harris from these first 2 games? I'd actually be curious to hear it. Usually with a quality DT, you don't always notice what they're doing because they're not the ones getting to the QB, you notice them when you see that the outside guys and LB's are getting to the QB because the DT is blowing up the center and you notice them in the stats when you see that the opponent's running game sucked.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) I agree. I'm am worried about Thornton for next season. As much as they had to use him this season, I'm surprised his arm hasn't fallen off. He pitched 67.1 innings last year and 67 so far this year. He had 74 appearances last year, 68 the year before, and has 65 so far this year.

I really don't know where to put this so I'll stick it here. From a book on the Clinton years.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 06:42 AM) I think hes a got a bit of a temper to him, but he’s really driven by an (almost) irrational desire to win. In a lot of ways, he’d be a perfect fit in the White Sox clubhouse. Especially, as a buy low KW special. Really, that's what you see in him? An irrational desire to win? I haven't gotten that impression at all.

Top-5 prospects Kenny will trade this offseason
Balta1701 replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in FutureSox Board
At least to me, I get the impression that KW really likes to trade guys when he thinks their value is peaking. Thus...McCarthy gets moved for Danks before his value goes down. Carter, Poreda, Richard go for Peavy and all 3 of them struggle after leaving. Allen was moved after having a very good season. Gio got moved after a very good season. Ditto DLS. Morel, Griffith, Gonzalez all seem to me to have a strong likelihood of going up in value next eyar. Retherford...maybe, I really just don't know what the org thinks of him. The 2 guys who I'd say have peaked in value right now are Hudson and Flowers. Problem is...we really need both of them. I think it's probably more likely that KW will shake up the big league roster than KW will move minor leaguers at this point. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 05:47 AM) This reminds me of the whole Thirteen Days thing. JFK in the middle of the Cuban Missle Crisis, leaves the white house just once - to go visit Daley Senior. Obama in the middle of the health care "crisis", might leave the country just once - to go help Daley Junior. Um, somehow I don't think that's the most apt metaphor. 45,000/year versus a couple hundred million in 5 minutes being the key difference.

Seems like the Giants aren't running well right now either.

Have at em Huddy.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) I wonder if the Milton Bradley thing is going to be like what happened with the Sox and Swisher. Wherein, they'll give up the guy for anything. Bradley can hit, he's a DH in the NL, but he is an On-Base Machine. He didn't exactly "Hit" this year. Injuries sure, non-DH sure, but blah

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 05:36 PM) any word on Alex Brown? Nothing specific out on the internets yet.

Hell of a way to start for the Giants.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) Cedric Benson's 4 realz, dawg. Would it really be that surprising if he wasn't a total failure in his 2nd stop?

From their locker room, out through a lounge, coming out on the 50 yard line. I have a feeling I'm just going to keep laughing at this stadium. It's like some Goldman Sachs exec. owns it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) That so sounds like Barack is pulling a John McCain... He's going to suspend the health care debate to go there? And by suspend the health care debate...we mean "Piss off Dave Letterman"? He is on Letterman on Monday. Perhaps that's part of the plan...

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 05:13 PM) Where are the Packers fans now? You got Ochocinco-ed! I wouldn't talk trash. For all we know, this setup means that the Bengals are one of the NFL's best teams. They're a complete fluke from being 2-0.

Sox had 3rd best farm system record in 2009

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) Hopefully this isn't reminiscent of 2000's minor league system... Why? You don't get everyone developing, but you always hope some do...and we won a W.S. a couple years after that ranking with some serious pieces from it.
