  1. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) So you think that: 1) the Sox will resign Dye and he'll be just as bad as he's been the 2nd half, 2) that Rios will continue being so much worse than his career averages, 3) that TCQ will continue to be injury prone and reasonably unproductive, and 4) the Sox will not bring in a single new starter / position player? Or that the replacements for the above players will play as bad as this year's starters did? Some of those things may happen, but all of them won't. Hell, I bet if you replayed this season 10 times, this would be the worst results we got.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 08:27 AM) The story that Hawk and Stoney were telling while we were in SEA is that they were going to try to lock him up long term, and if he wouldn't agree, he would be dealt this winter. This is probably the time to do it if you're Seattle. Coming off the season he's just had, still pre-arb, teams like Boston and NY holding a bunch of talented youngsters that you can pilfer, and you're smack in the middle of a multi-year rebuilding process where he really doesn't help you. You gotta fleece whoever you deal with though.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) Equating what Beck does to what Stewart does is just ridiculous. It's like saying that Michael Moore is the same as Dennis Miller. I'm not sure I get that simile at all.
  4. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) [/b] Especially if you keep up the damn printing presses rolling just to pay for the printing presses this year (monitization of the debt is going to make us Zimbabwe pretty damn soon if this keeps up). Except the Bond markets don't say that one bit.
  5. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:24 PM) wtf is miami doing? first of all with 4 minutes to play at the colts 30 on 3rd and 6 they run the ball, and now down 4 they not only run the ball, but take the ENTIRE game clock off and then call a timeout with 1 second left on the play clock ...then they let the 2 minute warning run out....because they ran the ball twice miami effectively cost themselves 2 TOs and a minute and half to get 6 yards...wow And they lost because they ran out of time. 47 minutes time of possession for the Fins, 13 minutes for the Colts. And the Colts won. That's remarkable.
  6. If JD were putting up MVP type numbers since the AS break, would we be in 1st place?
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) continuing collapse of the housing market? where are you seeing any indication of that? You are right of course about the job losses, and the fact that the commercial real estate market still has a lot of risk... but the housing market continuing to collapse? I have seen nothing of that sort. I think the "collapse" went on for quite a while, and it seems an abundance of evidence says that we're flattening and even improving in some areas now. Right here I see no reason why that should be any sort of seasonally adjusted trick like some data is. Housing prices have started to slowly level off in some regions as people come in bargain-hunting. But there's every reason to believe that the foreclosure problem is going to get worse before it gets better. The ARM recasts are just now beginning to roll through, and there are a huge number of borrowers there who are simply underwater and have no reason to pay off the loan. Just look at the numbers: The government has neglected to avoid doing anything that might piss off the banks. That includes anything that would give people legitimate ways out of these loans, even through bankruptcy. They're going to be a major drag for years...and combine that with a weak job market and you've got a recipe for a double-dip, esp. if the government pulls back on the stimulus spending as the 2010 election approaches.
  8. I don't know if I've ever seen a 33/11 time of possession ratio in a tie game.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 07:40 PM) Can we really blame Walker for CQ's struggles (which are injury related) and Dye turning into a replacement level player the last three months? Not to mention we went big chunks of the season with Fields, Lillibridge and Wise in the lineup. And Rios has obviously been bad to this point. I fail to see how any of this can be on Walker's head. Konerko/AJ/Pods/Beckham have all matched or exceeded expectations. Alexei after a slow start has been alright. Thome was Thome. No hitting coach would make a difference there. Would Getz be a better hitter with somebody other than Walker as the hitting coach? Doubtful. Again, I just don't see why Walker should take the fall. Things that you can probably pin on walker: 1. These terrifically bad games against guys we haven't seen before. 2. Fields's lack of development. His swing needed improvement and it just never showed. 3. Rios. The guy needs some major mechanical work right now. That's a hitting coach's job. 4. JD. I still don't know what's wrong with him, I think it has to be injury related, but if it's not, then the hitting coach needs to kick his ass. 5. Some of the really long slumps our guys got in to. Ramirez to start the season, Getz in June. Those really hampered us too.
  10. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 06:29 PM) IMO, we're going to stagnate, the drop's going to happen next summer. There's our double dip. Thankfully that's when a good fraction of the stimulus's actual project/job creation spending will be hitting, but unfortunately most of the tax credits have already hit. The double-whammy of the job losses and the continuing collapse of the housing market, combined with the damage to the commercial real estate markets, could certainly do that. It really is hard to see how we'll get out of this on a long-term basis without cutting off the housing collapse/foreclosures, which just keep going up. A serious green jobs boom might be the only thing I can imagine doing it.
  11. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Ok, this is one time I agree with you for posting some lunatic bulls*** answer from Glenn Beck. He just says s*** to get attention. He's nothing more then a Republican (hmmmmm...) Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert on crack. Seriously, this is offensive to Stewart and Colbert. If you actually pay attention to what they do...they hold the media and the politicians under the microscope as intelligently, or usually more intelligently, than anyone else out tehre.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) Awesomely BAD engagement photos Hi Jas! That was some fast work!
  13. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) I could see one of Jor.Danks or Mitchell traded. Both are highly regarded and both are "targeted" to play CF, a position the Sox have filled for many years with Rios. I know Rios and/or one of the others could play LF or RF, but since CF is not as big of a position of need anymore, I could see KW doing it. Couple points. 1: Mitchell is ineligible to be traded until something like Jan 1, give or take, even as a PTBNL. You can't officially trade a guy you drafted until what, 1 year after the draft, and then you've got only 6 months or so where you can not name the last player in a trade. 2. D2: the mighty Danks isn't getting traded not necessarily because of his performance, but because we have a LHP who put up a 3.6 ERA with the same name. Like it or not, we want to extend D1, the family did us a favor by switching agents away from Satan, we're not going to jerk them around like that. And it's the right thing to do.
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 01:23 PM) What the hell does sodomy and socialism have in common? Besides good conversation starters. Democrats will not rest until we spend every December 25th at Osama's pot and commie homo-abortion emporium. (Hat tip John Stewart).
  15. The Astros just fired Cecil Cooper. Didn't they give him an extension a couple months ago? Yup.
  16. Why do we suddenly think it's a great idea to take on all the chaff that is ruining the Cubs?
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) OK. Now I understand the point. But you still seemed to have missed mine - I wasn't saying Health Care was like the Cuban Missile Crisis. I was pointing out the other parallels in the events at hand. But now that you have overanalyzed it to death, I give up. It's what I do.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) Depo was fired for a variety of reasons. The most prominent reason being that the McCourt’s caved to public pressure from the Anti-Sabermetric press (who insisted on calling the man "Google Boy") The second being the intense backlash from Depo trading Paul La Duca, a move that was revealed years later, as a move to get La Duca (who was dealing roids) out of the clubhouse. I really love Depo, guy needs another GM job. And letting Adrian Beltre go while bringing J.D. Drew in. And not winning the division in 2005. And trading away Mota who was working as Gagne's setup man. But Bradley's presence and suckiness certainly played a role, don't kidd us. There's a reason that one of Coletti's first moves was to clear Bradley out.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) Still lost me. What are those numbers supposed to mean? How many would be killed in a nuclear war at what speed versus how many are killed by the health care crisis at what speed.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) Bradley is yet to get one GM fired. Paul DePodesta probably counts, although it wasn't just Bradley. But a .900 OPS out of Bradley in a complete season in 2005 might well have saved DePodesta.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 11:40 AM) You lost me - what are you talking about? The odd definition of a "Crisis" tehre.
  22. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 10:07 AM) I agree with this in theory, but DLS should have been one of those guys looked at to increase value as well. Imagine what DLS would have brought us if he had stayed healthy and dominated in Birmingham. Kenny is just hard to predict sometimes, and I honestly believe that when Kenny wants a player bad, he doesn't really think about whether or not he's selling at peak value, he just gives the other team the players they want and schedules the press conference. I think KW probably wasn't nearly as high on DLS after looking good at A ball as some of us in the audiences were.
