  1. Today's trib goes hard after Hendry for his offseason moves.
  2. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 09:28 AM) every other teams players are all in their primes though Albert Pujols entered his prime at age 6.
  3. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) There is that one day, around 28 years old, when White Sox players are in their prime. Hopefully, it isn't a Sunday.
  4. Chrysler's bondholders refuse the deal, Chrysler is filing bankruptcy as we speak. The government seems to be trying to use the bankruptcy judge to enforce the deal that they wanted. Small note...if you wanted to send a message to GM's bondholders, shouldn't you go to the bankruptcy procedure and argue for an even worse deal than the one you offered them? Make it clear that holding out only makes things worse for them.
  5. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 09:17 AM) thats nothing man, its only du jour See, that's the problem... If our young guys are producing, we can't be confident in it because they're still young guys and they could regress. By the time we're confident in them though...they're old slow veterans who we need to replace with young guys because they're old and might start regressing any day.
  6. IIRC, in the last ARod thread, a few of the folks were saying "why did he need to use steroids, he was already a ridiculous athlete coming out of high school" to which I replied something along the lines of "How do you know he wasn't already doping in high school"?
  7. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) With all due respect to Thome and Big Frank, the next Sox DH should be capable of playing a position as well. It would give Ozzie the flexibility to rest people via the DH slot and would be injury insurance. Having that guy on the roster who can do nothing else but DH is too restricting on a 25 man roster with inter league play. There's a reason that quite a few teams go the other route with the DH: it's a money saver. You can get a guy more cheaply if he is a liability in the field, but get the same offensive performance out of him.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 07:15 PM) It's just a random thought here, but has anyone looked into the possibility that maybe this flu has been around for awhile and we're only now identifying it? Hell, maybe there's a Fish Flu or Cow Flu that is out there, being mistaken for regular flu, but no one has identified it yet. We're actually fairly good at things like that. This is at some level a new strain...but that doesn't mean it appeared like magic out of no where. People are already tearing the thing apart, the closest thing to it that I've read about was an outbreak of a swine flu that infected 2 people (non-lethally) at a fair in Ohio in 2007, IIRC. What is almost certainly the case is that this bug is a mutant version of a previous bug. Things don't explode like this after hanging around for a few years...the immune systems of mammals adapt too quickly. It might have grabbed some gene from something else, it might have been hanging out in a population that Smithfield farms was dumping full of antibiotics, people are certainly working on that.
  9. Yankees dropped a 7 spot on the Tigers in the 4th inning, 6 of them going on the record of young Rick Porcello.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) Oh and I leave for Mexico in two weeks. In case you were wondering, there is a better chance of my plane crashing than me actually dying from Swine flu. For now.
  11. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) I gotta believe the bond holders in Chrysler will give the finger to the plan that is on the table. Why would secured debt holders, who would normally receive dollar for dollar in bankruptcy procedings, agree to a 10% share of the company? Link
  12. So who's the lass? His GF? Someone who won a contest? Someone who works with the team? Reporter?
  13. If nothing else, this is going to wind up with a lot of these guys being unable to ever leave the country again.
  14. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) After reading through Bill Simmons response to the Rondo foul, i found this quote interesting: So after the game he even admitted that he never intended to go for the ball and wanted to hit Miller, and that is not a flagrant foul? Isnt that the definition of a flagrant foul? The problem is the fact that it's after the game. Changing it to a flagrant 1 simply says "we blew it, we're fining Rondo but we can't suspend him". No one thinks that's a flagrant 2, and he wouldn't have been suspended for a flagrant 1. Punishing him for game 6 is the 2 wrongs trying to make a right.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Believe it or not that was a great play drawn up by VDN. They caught the Celtics off-guard and would have gotten away with it if Miller didn't rush the shot... Not disagreeing with that assessment, I have no problem with that play going to Miller. Anything other than Gordon dribbling on an isolation and shooting through a quadruple team makes me somewhat happy.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) Yeah poor Hermie. Will actually have to work for his paycheck. He should have been a banker.
  17. I think Ozzie just said that if Thome isn't ready to be in the lineup on Friday he's going to the DL.
  18. "Brian is, I don't know yet, something gibberish, then the phrase 'pull an oblique muscle', then 'i feel bad for Hermy, he was supposed to have the day off tomorrow and now he has to deal with these guys, i don't think it'll be a DL or anything like that" -paraphrasing Ozzie Guillen, he doesn't know Anderson's injury yet, thinks it has something to do with his oblique, doesn't think it'll be a DL trip.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 08:49 AM) With Marquez struggling in AAA, and Egbert apparently given only 2 chances, and Broadway just not being that good... maybe Freddy for cheap as a long reliever? Might not be the worst idea in the world. Not like he's blocking anyone who is ready to step into that role right now. Marquez was just DL'd.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) What makes me think this is more serious is the death rate and that the current vaccinations seem to not be effective against it. Worth noting is my post earlier where I question the accuracy of the current published death rates.
  21. I'm afraid I don't know where the discussion of McAuliffe's lines and lines of signs went, so I'm just going to put these new Survey USA results here. Previous polls have shown a dead heat or Moran with a small lead, so this would be a major jump for the former head of the DNC.
