Steele vs. Limbaugh, the opening salvo: Limbaugh Vs. Steele; the battle is joined. Frankly, my money's on Limbaugh.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) Fields with another double! 2/2 with 2 doubles. Good line for today for Josh. -
Thanks for posting! Great, now Anderson has some competition for the honeys.

So who else is worried about Bobby's velocity this spring?

QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) I heard he was only hitting 43 mph and having trouble getting the ball all the way to AJ. It worked for Shingo. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) O-Cab is an A, now. Does this mean we're not getting all of the Jays best prospects??? 1 year, $4 million deal it appears. The A's have pick #13, so this means we'll get a sandwich pick and a mid-second-rounder for him, assuming no sign and trade was cut. Not a bad haul.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) If Jose Conteras makes the opening day roster are we changing his nickname from Count to the "Medical Miracle?" I think the Count still works quite well. He's undead. You can't hurt him without stabbing him in the heart with a piece of wood.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) Balta, do you think that Rahm Emanuel may be the reason that Dean is not our HHS? Well, him and the President.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) I think that last season is a good indication of what we'll get from Dotel this year. At times, he'll be nails. At other times, he'll get shelled. He hasn't been consistently good since blowing out his elbow and losing a good 5-6 mph off of his fastball, and I don't see that changing any time soon. IMO, it will really help Dotel if he's a 7th inning guy who we can swap in and out more easily than if he's an 8th inning guy. Right handers hit under .200 against him last year with a .654 OPS. It's when we start saying "The whole inning is yours" that he gets in to more trouble. He was at his worst last year in late July and for the month of August, and that was conveniently the month and a half that Linebrink missed.

Wilson "the colander" Betemit, Owens and other thoughts

QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) If Beckham will be move to second, why is he playing SS now. Are we going to bring him without playing significant time at 2B and hand him that position? So the Sox critized certain players for having a shaking defense and are willing to bring up a guy with very little experience at 2B. I am assuming this will happen. Beckham should need an OPS in ST of 2.500 before we start talking about him as the starting 2b to begin this year. -
Santana is seemingly going back and forth on this with NY's new pitching coach. He said the soreness is probably because their new pitching coach had him throwing too much, every other day since the start of camp. Their pitching coach, Warthen, responded by saying that he though Johan was pushing himself too hard because he wanted to be ready for the WBC.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) Hey, we have no Eddie Royal, so there. Another thing to think about...there's a reason why guys like Housh are more interested in going to places like Seattle and Philadelphia than they are Chicago...because of the QB situations in those cities. Everyone knows the Bears are a running team...the Bears are where WR's go to die. You stick Cutler in there, and suddenly a few WR's might actually want to come to Chicago. -

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) Unfortunately, Bush and Obama are about equal in quality from what I've seen. Neither are anywhere near the political center, that is a given. I have a number of problems with the logic behind this variety of statement, but I'll focus on one here; the person making it is giving himself or herself the permission to valiantly declare what exactly the political center is, and declaring that that position fixed and invariable with time. Not only does it grant the person making the judgment an awful lot of ability to discern the realities of the universe, but it also assumes a fairly rigid definition of the political center.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 08:30 AM) How about the illegals? If it was all coming through U.S. airports or U.S. ports, there wouldn't be a guerrilla war on the other side of the U.S. border to control the drug trafficking routes.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 07:00 AM) oh i like this financial quote from FOX financial news "Will the US government end up losing the 186 billion investment in AIG?" lol. that money is gone. stupid question. they lost 61 billion last quarter alone. LOL. That money is nothing more than additional bailout money. Honestly, it's probably been just about as effective as the first $350 million from the Congressionally financed bailout. And regarding today... WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) We hiked a bit further north along the road, took a left across country and found a valley you couldn't see from the road. We tried to obscure our footprints where we left the road as well, and crossed a couple washes with a zag. No way in hell we wanted to see them again. I don't know what they were doing, but, there is absolutely nothing down that road but the border, some mountains and desert. And the land is all part of a couple huge ranches, or BLM property, nothing for sale. This was why we had the debate before going about whether or not to go armed on that trip. Not sure how much you're watching things lately, but I'm not sure the coyotes from even 2 years ago scares me nearly as much as the war going on there now. The money motivating those guys was a lot less than what's driving this war, these guys are VASTLY better armed, and they're much more brutal. We typically take a field trip down to central Baja once a year, and we hang out near the border on some other routes. Last year was the first year we went, um, prepared (everything legal, no guns - we do cross mexican military checkpoints), and frankly, I'm not sure I really want to go if it runs this year. FWIW, 60 minutes just repeated the "90% of the guns in the Mexican war, including the heavy weapons, are coming across the U.S. border" statement.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) The drug cartel violence down there is unreal. Read earlier this week that last year the head of the ATF said that something like 80-90% of the guns being used in that drug war were coming across the border the other way.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) So you're not going to fit Brandon Allen in there at 1B or DH? Do you really think either Dye OR Konerko will be here in two years? I guess it's possible, but not very likely, unless the "recession" becomes a fullblown depression and the economy of baseball worsens even more. I bet at least one of them is still around (14?). How many other teams will be spending money on 34 year old DH's even if the market doesn't improve? I'll bet Konerko winds up resigned as a DH if his performance keeps up the next 2 years. -

Playboy magazine, of all places (all the newspapers dead?), does some investigative work on CNBC anchor Rick Santelli's anti-Obama rant from a couple weeks ago, and alleges it was part of a much larger, pre-planned PR campaign against the president's policies. (Link is hopefully SFW, although I have ads blocked I can't say for sure, and the address is playboy.com, if anyone is watching what sites you visit you might want to avoid it)

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 28, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) Due to his continued arm problems apparently Brandon McCarthy has abandoned his curveball and replaced it with a less abrasive slider. That Danks trade just keeps looking better. Seriously? Man that changeup was murder on people when he had it working.
