  1. In that first home run video, it looks like he got a pitch that he flew open on and jumped all over. Because he got the pitch he wanted, he was just able to crush it. Down and in. The reason he didn't hold his balance there (the part that made it look like a Uribe swing) was the position of the pitch. To pull that down the line with that kind of power you have to be quite a bit out in front of it, and it's going to be hard to hold balance on that. In the hit and the 2nd home run video, his technique looks a lot better. He stays back on the ball as its coming in, puts a good solid swing on the ball, and there's no Uribe like flailing in those. I'm not sure about his timing mechanism, there is something of a hitch there that could be a little slow (a-la Fields) but it's hard to tell until he faces a legit MLB fastball whether he'll be able to keep up with those and stay back on offspeed stuff at the same time.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) He's doing exactly what he said he'd do - build a team of thinkers from various viewpoints. He's said before, many times, he's a fan of the Team of Rivals concept. For now, that means that certain far-left Liberals will b**** and moan about having a moderate cabinet, and certain far-right conservatives will bemoan the most-liberal-President-ever stuff. Once the dust settles, if he has pissed off the extremists and made the moderates in each party happy, then I think he's probably done a great job. Like I said, I just want to make sure there is an actual couple of voices from the left in there to actually piss off the moderates.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) The people have spoken. We elected a liberal president. The most liberal person in history if you ask some of the conservatives on this site. And we also elected a majority of liberals in Congress. That's why liberals are annoyed that the president-elect is creating what appears to be a not-so progressive looking cabinet. I don't have a problem with his cabinet being mostly centrists, Richardson, Clinton, Gates, etc. But it would be very nice if they could occasionally be challenged in their thinking from the left rather than just from the right. Things like "What exactly are our goals in Afghanistan" and "Couldn't we be even more aggressive on alternative energy mandates" and "Maybe we should give $7.4 trillion to the banks" or other nearly communist ideas like that.
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) I've been browsing various liberal blog comments and they're already flipping the f*** out because it's clear to them that Obama doesn't intend on governing as a leftist like they had somehow convinced themselves he was going to do. They're mad that he didn't "punish" Lieberman, they're mad that he's asked Hillary to be Secretary of State, they're mad that he's talking about keeping Gates on, and so on. But when it comes down to it, what are they going to do? Not vote for him? Please. I'd call that bluff. Just a quick question or two in reply... When Bush made up his cabinet in 2000, he had 1 Democrat in it, Mineta at transportation. He also had such wonderful figures as Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, etc. Bush Also had much smaller margins in Congress and even electorally overall than Obama currently has. So I ask...out of his cabinet so far, who has been named or suggested who would be even remotely as far to the left as Bush's cabinet was to the right? And if it's a bad thing for the Liberals to be mad that they didn't get any seats in an Obama cabinet...why was it ok for Bush to put together a cabinet so far to the right after a much narrower victory?
  5. It's probably also worth noting here that the economists out there who have been closer to correct on these messes than the folks running the government seem to Hate the Citi deal, because it looks an awful lot like a blank check for which the taxpayer gets very little.
  6. I demand that we rename this field "George W. Bush" field.
  7. Switching topics a bit...2k5...your $2 trillion prediction? I think we've just blown past it by a factor of 3.85.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) Starting with Freddie and Fannie, which are the crux of this entire problem in the first place. Except that they weren't the ones writing the majority of the bad loans the last few years nor were they the ones dramatically over leveraging on them. An interesting thing to think about on your point though...if FNMA and FDMC did not exist...and we also imposed a limit on the size of banks so that we couldn't get "Too big to fail" entities...how many banks would we need to handle the mortgage market?

  10. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) INACCURATE http://www.fox.com/24/profiles/season5/ta.htm I always wondered why they didn't give him the "mourning a character silence" at the end of that episode.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) under contract for $5.25 mill Finally had time to check. YOu lied to me. he's a FA at the end of 09.
  12. Is Crosby under contract/arb eligible/option year in 2010?
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 05:57 AM) As important as the auto industry is to the economy, it pales in comparison to the financial community. The financial system, the banks of all kinds, have to come first. Without the efficient movement of money through the financial system, no other industry matters. They are just not remotely comparable. Whether you realize it or not, you just gave the entire reason for why we have to break these banks up and why they can never even come close to approaching this size again.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 05:22 AM) Now how does that factor in the counties where Frankin gained 100 votes while Coleman gained none? The fact that he's looking solely at the "Recount" numbers, not the numbers that came in gradually before the official vote was certified?
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 06:36 AM) Sure, seeing as how Saudi Arabia and UAE owns a good chunk of C, they better have some real regulations. The Saudis already own everything else in our government, why shouldn't they just make it official?
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 08:57 AM) The Sox payroll was 120M last year? Probably depends on whether you count the money coming in for Thome, Cabrera.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) Oline, WR, and DE are the three biggest needs. With virtually everyone already extended...it seems to me this should be a year for the Bears to spend some cap room to fill one of those spots (the Cinci WR's come to Mind)
  18. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 22, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) Dye for Iwamura and Howell? The only other piece that would fit woud be Upton, and I know Maddon had personality clashes with him, but I dont see that happening. If it does and the Mets deal happens, KW will get a lot of hype for his offseason moves, similar to Detroit last season. I can see why people would be interested in Iwamura...but frankly, that's not what I want to get back in return if I deal JD. Not with Beckham waiting in the wings. And I really just don't want anything from their bullpen.
  19. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 08:44 PM) Okay, maybe I should have rephrased that to say GOOD trading chips, the kind that can bring in a solid big man in his mid-20's like Kaman. We're not trading Rose, Deng is a BYC player and thus very difficult, if not impossible to move, and Gordon would also be very difficult to trade. So we're basically left praying that they'll take something like Gooden, Tyrus/Noah and a lottery protected first or that they really like Hinrich or Nocioni, which isn't exactly an overwhelming package. I doubt Hughes' contract would interest them considering they just gave up two other dead-weight type contracts that expire in 2010 with Mobley and Thomas. Frankly, if the Clippers were actually intent on building long-term, they'd jump at a deal like Hinrich and Gooden for Kaman + maybe Mobely or something like that, or maybe try to get us to throw in one of the younger bigs along with Hinrich for Kaman. After the Brand Fiasco, they need to realize they're back to almost square 1 in a conference where they don't have a shot, and they need to clear cap space and look for draft picks or guys with contracts like Hinrich - that go down with time. But that's why they're the clippers.
  20. Here's some more video of ballots that are being challenged by the Coleman campaign in at least 1 particular county. Basically, the logic behind the challenges seems to be that if the voter filled out the bubble for McCain/Palin, they couldn't have possibly meant it when they also filled out the Franken ballot. This doesn't mean that the Franken campaign isn't doing the same exact thing. But it does mean that at least a good number of votes for Al aren't counted yet, and if this is a multi-county trend it could be a lot more than a few.
