  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) I can't see the game thanks to the gayness of Directv, but how is Floyd looking? I notice he has 7 K's which is high for him this season, but he is facing the twins.. His changeup hasn't really been there according to farmer and stone, but he's just killing people with the Curve today.
  2. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 01:58 PM) best thing about gavin so far is the Ks....thats something he has lacked so far this season, so its nice to see him start to rack the Ks up....the more guys he Ks the more likely he will keep this up Not only has he racked up the k's, but he's done so without blowing up his pitch count today. 7 strikeouts through 5, but only 66 pitches thrown (including an obnoxious 10 pitch AB by Mauer). So he's been just destroying people.
  3. Sweet. That's what we needed. Now the bats can do whatever the hell they want the rest of the game.
  4. That's one time I won't complain about the quick 123 inning.
  5. Gosh, Juan "no idea why I tested positive" Rincon's numbers have really fallen off...i wonder why that might be...
  6. "That broke from the Ryan to the Kennedy" - Farmer
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) Farmer and Stone said there's about 45 minutes left in the window for no rain. Has anyone heard something different? Heard the same thing. Think they're underestimating the gap, but it looks like the whole area's unstable enough that stuff could flare up whenever. Gotta get this next inning and a half in quick just in case.
  8. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) hows the forecast looking?
  9. Seriously, come on, we need to make this game official first.
  10. Ok guys, now it's time to just bunt everything for the next inning or so and try to get through the middle of the 5th.l
  11. QUOTE (The Human Borch @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 01:05 PM) so how far was that second HR last night? I don't think anyone had hit the facade of fundamentals before that... It hit the foul pole.
  12. God...you add Alexei and even some moderate performances out of Swisher, Thome, and Konerko, to Dye, Crede, a decent performing AJ, and God, and this offense just starts to click...
  13. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) SWISHHHHHHH thats what i wanted to see and i thought i would woot ... i dont believe people actually hate him on this forum Don't hate the player at all. Hated the .200 batting average.
  14. QUOTE (southsidehawkeye @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 09:16 AM) If Cabrera continues to improve I wouldn't be surprised if KW resigns him (especially if we don't or can't resign Crede). If thats the case I could see Cabrera starting at SS, Alexei at 2B and have Richar on the bench (dumping Uribe). Alexei can play both the middle infield spots so he can move over to give Cabrera days off and Richar would slide into 2B when either Cabrera, Ramirez, or even the CF'er needs a day off (for days when Ramirez is out to CF). I'd be shocked if Cabrera gets resigned.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 12:12 PM) Interesting, there doesn't really seem to be any kind of pattern to it. I guess the more populated the area the more earmarks get used. Earmarks are only worth about 15 billion? That's even less than I thought. Well, it depends on how you count "earmarks". If you use the most generous definition possible, where it's any time Congress directs money to anything, you can get a higher number. But the trap is...a lot of that money is actually pretty useful, and ranting and raving against the evils of earmarks can get you in to trouble. For example, McCain's campaign a month ago or so started talking about how they were going to help balance the budget by getting rid of like $60 billion in earmarks a year. But then, people started pointing out the things that included...like, "Senator McCain, ever dollar of aid given to Israel by the U.S. fits that definition. Are you in favor of the U.S. eliminating aid to Israel"? ETc. The pattern, if you're looking for one, also does show up, in that if you're looking at the per capita earmarks, you have to look at which state has the longest serving senators who know how to game the budget. Alaska is #1 in earmarks per person, because of Senator Tubes and Senator "No I have no idea who put that earmark in there" Young. West Virginia is #3 thanks to Robert Byrd. Etc.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 07:24 AM) That would be foolish in my opinion. Lose 2 Senate seats? Nah. It should be a former or current Governor or someone else not currently in office (i.e., Wesley Clark, Edwards, Daschle). And it should be someone that will help him with a key swing state. A northeastern Senator would do little in that capacity. I believe Daschle said a week or so ago that he wasn't interested in the VP slot, but he volunteered to take over HHS in the same speech. Another interesting dynamic here consists of the party-building one. Let's assume hypothetically BO has a good 8 years...in that case, it's certainly helpful to the party itself to have a groomed successor who's been sitting in the VP chair for those 8 years. Or, in the event that "40 more wars" wins instead, then whoever BO picked has a solid chance at the nomination in 2012.
  17. There's a blog based suggestion making the rounds today that the rumored "Scary video of Michelle Obama" supposedly going off on the evils of Whitey, which has gotten enough play that the Senator was asked about it a couple days ago despite a complete lack of evidence that it exists, bears a striking resemblance to the topic of a 2006 book.
  18. If I were Konerko, Thome or Swisher...I'd be havin' my song changed every other day at this point. It can't hurt can it? Once you finally get a couple hits, keep that one.
  19. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) As being a HUGE Jordan homer, I don't like the Kobe=Jordan talk as much as anybody. But I think some of the MJ homers on the board have to consider that Kobe is probably the best player in the game currently, and everyone has an off night. The man has 24 points and now it's as if he's all of a sudden overrated. I think you'll have a lot of difficulty coming up with people who won't argue he's the best player currently in the league. You might have gotten an argument for KG or Duncan a couple years ago, and a healthy D-Wade might have given him a challenge, and CP3 and Lebron have a shot at taking that title even next year...but for the last 2 or 3 years he clearly has been the best in the league.
