  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) You want proof Thome is pulling the ball too much. In his first two years with the Sox, he hit into 14 double plays total. This year, he's already at 8. Who did he typically have batting in front of him those years? In 06, Pods and Iguchi. In 07, some combination of Pods, Iguchi, Erstad, and Fields.
  2. Swisher moves solidly ahead of Konerko for the lowest BA number.
  3. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) I dunno, the Rally Crede thread is a damn good read too. I'm still proud of being the first one in there saying "Sonofab**** it worked"
  4. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) On the retread note, any word on Freddy Garcia's recovery progress? Some had speculated the Sox might try to pick him up in June/July. Probably not that soon.
  5. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:41 AM) Man, if the Big Three retire this season, they should all go in first-ballot. They should all go in first-ballot anyway. They will.
  6. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) that's not the sole reason it's biased... Honestly though...there really is nothing at all wrong with having a biased, conservative news network. The 2 things I have a problem with are: 1. The way they've played themselves as "fair and balanced" and for the last 10 years or so have dragged all the other media down and to the right in an effort to try to "Out-fox Fox" (See; the existence of shows belonging to Glenn Beck, Michael Savage, Joe Scarborough, the Donahue firing, the entire run up and first few years of the Iraq war, etc), and 2. The lack of a comparable alternative from my side, although MSNBC finally seems to be catching on to the idea that you're not going to steal Fox's audience by being Fox v. 2.0 but you might have a shot at them by being the anti-Fox. Giving Rachel Maddow a show would be a nice step also.
  7. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) Not necessarily true. We went well over slot with Joe Borchard (I think we also did with Nevin Griffith) the team's philosophy on this issue is that they'll pay more if the player is really worth it but if they see two players who grade out similarly but one want slot money and the other wants 2-3 million more than slot then they'll take the player who's a little cheaper and more worth the money Did the slotting system even exist as it stands now when we drafted Borchard?
  8. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) What's our pick in the 2nd, anyway? And a very odd question -- will there be any point guards available? It's strange, but we may actually need another pg, even after adding Rose, and even considering how crowded our backcourt is. If the Bulls take Rose, they'll be looking to deal Hinrich, and Duhon could be gone. Gordon SUCKS at the point. I mean, you could get by without someone. Gordon or Hughes could bring the ball up a few times a game. But it's not an ideal situation. The Bulls still are holding their 2nd round PG from last year, JamesOn Curry, who they sent to the D-League most of the year. But honestly, if the Bulls do draft rose and can't clear at least 1 of the Shooting Guards out, then they really don't need another backup guard. Whether it's ideal or not, they really have to use one of Gordon/Sef/Hughes as the backup PG just because there aren't enough minutes to go around at the SG spot. If the Bulls are able to make a move clearing out a guard, then a backup PG would be an ideal thing to get in return, assuming Rose is drafted. Or, they have a trade exemption they could use to steal a player from a team looking to clear cap space. Or they would still have the MLE to spend on a player. They have lots of options. The key is going to be what kind of deal they can make to clear out some of these big salary players.
  9. It's still from, well, the last race, but hey they closed that thread, so I'll stick this here. Piece from the WaPo today on how the Obama team pulled off the win.
  10. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) Maybe he really liked it here and wanted to return for some reason. Hell, with the way he performed here last time, unless there was some other chemical reason helping him, I wouldn't blame him for going back here to try to rescue his career either. Now all we need is to have him put together another 20 game winning season and then swap him to the Yankees for a pitcher that they've soured on (That guy Hughes is starting to fit the bill....)
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) More and more I think about it, just take Rose, take DJ White or the best PF/C available in the 2nd, find a way to get Brand, and go from there. I still don't like the Brand Rose combo at all, entirely based on the ages. I just think you're asking for 3-4 years of slightly above average play there, when Brand carries you to the middle of the playoffs while Rose is still a kid and then Rose carries you to the middle of the playoffs when Brand becomes a declining 30 year old forward with a big contract. On the other hand...if you made a move for Wade...even if you didn't get another pick back from the Heat...that would be an absolutely ideal situation to go after Brand (with some combo of 3 of Gooden/Tyrus/Gordon/Nocioni/Sefalosha). Gives you a starting lineup of Brand, Deng, Noah, Hinrich, Wade. If there aren't any major injuries, that's as good of a lineup as there is in the NBA.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 09:39 AM) This has got to be an insurance move, or shoring up Charlotte. I don't see where the guy fits on our roster right now, unless someone is hurt. Well, I've been of the opinion that Danks has to be limited to about 160 or so innings this year including the playoffs, otherwise you really risk pushing him too hard and having him go down for an extended period. He's pitching well enough that stopping him might well require shutting him down for a couple weeks. This would be another option for a couple of #5 starter type spot starts.
  13. Here's McCain's speech from tonight. Judge for yourself.
  14. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) Ramirez is continuing to impress me at the plate and his defense isn't too bad either... Kudos to KW for aqcuiring some cheap talent with a lot of promise (Danks, Floyd, Quentin and Ramirez). Now if only Swish can get going! And I really am starting to think Konerko should go to the DL... And Thome... well i just think his best days are waaaay behind him and KW should seriously start looking for the DH of the future at the ASB. Jermaine Dye/Paul Konerko can hold down that role, if Swisher ever starts hitting.
  15. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) for the ROn Paul cmment. As for the dead issues, kinda lke what happened to Edwards, right? It's unfortunate he kinda went away after he dropped out. I've said to you before that Edwards was my #2 love. I still dream of Obama / Edwards or Obama / Richardson. I'm not sure about the VP slot, because I don't know what Obama might want to do with that, but I'll bet that other than that he could get any position he wants. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wound up with HHS or the AG slot in an Obama administration.
  16. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) After McCain became the presumptive nominee, how long was it until Huckabee conceded? I honestly dont remember. I thought it was that night. Huckabee conceeded the night that McCain clinched their delegate count, March 4th (Texas/Ohio). Here's his comparatively gracious speech.
  17. Jenks in for a 4 run game. Has it been that long since he's been used?
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 06:28 PM) Who will make the first Uribe comment? Both Alexei and Uribe have played CF before...
  19. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 06:24 PM) Yahoo says they're tied at .202 I did the math earlier. They're separated by about .0001.
  20. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 06:23 PM) Slick Nick begs to differ. He can't let Konerko pass him.
  21. Ok, Swisher's got his chance to pass Konerko's BA mark again...
  22. Why would you use Dotel with a 4 run lead?
