    Oil Issue

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 20, 2008 -> 12:31 PM) BTW not sure if this fits exactly in the thread but I'm seriously considering putting some solar shingles on my roof or something. It costs a lot of money though. Well, my advice on this issue is multi-fold. First, do the math. There'll be a fair amount of it. Try to get an estimate of the amount of power you'd generate per unit time in your area with photovoltaics on the roof, look in to your options on how much the solar panels would cost, and try to think through whether or not the energy savings right now is worth the additional cost to you given your current economic situation, whatever that is. And the last thing to keep in mind is, as technology improves and we get a new set of people in the White House, it's possible that the price of those solar panels could go down or be subsidized significantly. If I was sitting on a lot of cash and wanted an investment that would pay off in the long term, that might be a sensible time to take those steps. Otherwise, I might wait 1 or 2 years.

    Oil Issue

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 20, 2008 -> 08:37 AM) Kill all the vultures in the commodities market who are ultimately preying upon the poor, because there is no excuse for these prices anymore. The supply/demand curve is being completely ignored in these prices. It just makes no sense at all, this is market gambling at it's WORST. I for one would like to see this demonstrated. If I understand what you're saying, you're telling us that as the price of oil is going up, either supply has been increasing or demand has been decreasing at such a rate that there should not be increasing stress on oil supplies with time. With the constantly increasing demand pressure out of Asia, this strikes me as probably incorrect. Can you present the graph you're referring to?
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 19, 2008 -> 08:36 PM) My comment about the Clinton spin cycle was more out of annoyance, she just needs to quit. Her staying in the race is only making her look bad. At least through tomorrow she's still useful. No matter how close the race, it doesn't look that good for the nominee to lose states after all of his opponents have dropped out. After this, Obama has likely wins finishing things out in Montana and South Dakota and Puerto Rico is stuck in there as well. Obama's clearly pulling away in recent Gallup tracking polls. I think people are realizing it's essentially over, so now all that's left is for Hillary to bow out on her terms. She shouldn't be forced out until she's ready, because that will probably infuriate her voters.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 19, 2008 -> 07:25 PM) I just can't buy that since he had 75,000 people at a rally yesterday, I'd think it's closer to the 13 the other poll mentions. He's going to be destroyed in Kentucky though, the Clinton spin machine will be in full cycle tomorrow night and Wednesday. It won't matter. The fact that Obama is going to firmly come up with a lead in pledged delegates tomorrow is going to be something the media is happy to repeat, even though it's not fully true until Michigan and Florida are decided somehow. He should also guarantee himself a lead in any reasonable version of the popular vote. Read a great line the other day. We finally came up with a solution to the Primary mess. Clinton fights on, while Obama drops out to run in the general election against McCain.
  6. Just think, we have a very reasonable shot at a Pistons/Spurs rematch!
  7. Another great tale of voter fraud...and $1.4 million in taxpayer dollars down the drain. Out of that pool of 26 cases, which comes to about $54,000 per case, 18 were due to the fact that in Texas, it seems its illegal for you to pick up someone's absentee ballot and carry it to the mailbox for them even if they're incapacitated unless you sign the document, and the person picking up the ballot and carrying it to the mailbox was prosecuted.
  8. So far today, 3 more Superdelegates for BO, including WV Senator and Pres. Pro Tempore of the Senate Robert Byrd. He also got a nudge from Warren Buffet today (not a Superdelegate for anyone except Berkshire).
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 19, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) Article is from 2007. Well, it is a fair point, even if its old. I do wonder though...as many times as I've heard people complain about the little random anti-Hillary posts that kept popping up here and how much that made them like Obama less...now that we're seeing random anti-Obama nuggets thrown in by the Republican people, will that provoke the same sort of Anti-McCain response? I'll leave the answer to you to think about.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 18, 2008 -> 07:06 PM) 75,000 people went to see Obama speak in Portland today. In other news, 47 people showed up at the local VFW in Dayton to hear McCain speak. Other shot.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 19, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) Track McCain Flip-Flops and missteps on issues.. http://www.mccainpedia.org/ One interesting and perhaps important aspect of this campaign is going to be that since McCain has been such a media darling over the last 8 years, he's been on seemingly a couple shows a week and has been asked over and over again about pretty much every topic out there. Since in 2004 flip-flopping on issues became the worst sin in the history of mankind, the sheer amount of video and questions/answers involving McCain is probably going to produce a lot of very ripe fruit of the sort of that Hamas discussion from last week.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 19, 2008 -> 08:44 AM) I agree with most of the grades, I think Dotel has been a C- because he pitches like Rex Grossman plays quarterback. Really hot and really cold. It just so happens he had one of the worst outings of any of our relievers last night. I think Buehrle should be a D, the team hasn't been helping him too much. Floyd A-, his K:BB ratio is still pretty bad and that's a cause for concern. Don't want to harp on Dotel in 1 thread, but I'd like to note that his outing last night shouldn't have come as too much of a surprise, because he's probably been used more in the last 2 weeks than he should have been, considering his health issues in recent years. I don't like the idea of him pitching back to back games at all, especially not doing so repeatedly. Out of our last 4 series, he pitched in back to back games against the Twins, pitched in 1 game against Seattle, pitched in 3/4 against Anaheim, and pitched 2/3 after Friday off against the Giants. 5 appearances in 7 days is just too much for him to be making even if he winds up being effective.
  13. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 18, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) we've now eclipsed the "Mighty" tigers in Runs Scored on the year with 200 vs 192 and also LOL @ us only playing 16 total home games so far vs 27 away games, who made this bulls*** schedule? we're the only team in the american league with less than 19 games played at home (CHW: 9-7(16), TOR: 10-9(19)) BS if you ask me The harder your schedule is to start off, the easier it is later in the year. I think most people looked at our schedule and said that the opening of it was the hardest part this year. Not a lot of off days, lots of road games, etc. To get through that on top of the division and now have a chance to start going after a few teams in our own park might be fairly nice.
  14. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 19, 2008 -> 07:43 AM) Even better. I hope they show that regional game in my area. Usually though we get stuck with a West coast game or the Yankees and Red Sox. I see ESPN is following the Yankmees and Botox again quite abit. Funny how a last place team gets so much coverage isn't it? See, here's the thing. It's not always a bad thing to be "Stuck with a west coast game" when your team is playing the Angels.
  15. I still really want to know that list from 03.
  16. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 18, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) so, is the wasserman era finished or what? DFA? DFA a young kid who still has options left? Not exactly the smartest move. I recall days when a lot of people wanted nothing to do with Boone Logan ever again.
  17. For those who didn't catch it, we're doing another starting rotation shuffle. Gavin gets an extra day off next week, and thanks to an off day we can move people around without problems.
  18. QUOTE (RME JICO @ May 17, 2008 -> 05:08 PM) AJ is 0-12 lifetime vs Zito. He is hot but you also don't want to kill his confidence against someone he's had no success against. And he's played 6 games in a row, which is his longest streak of the season.
  19. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 17, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) I agree. I think Ozzie's really going to hesitate before he takes both Thome and Konerko out of the lineup, no matter how much PK might be hurting.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) I assume Toby will start, as AJP is awful in his career vs Zito. AJ's way overdue for an offday anyway.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 17, 2008 -> 10:07 AM) Ted Kennedy apparently suffered a stroke today. Currently they're saying it was a seizure and not a stroke, although that was the initial report.
  22. Come on JD, this game has dropped Sanchez's ERA by half a run.
  23. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 16, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) I find it rich that these fans are booing AJ, yet they cheered for a dirtbag cheater like Bonds. If your team gave up Liriano, Bonser, and Nathan for a guy who only lasted 1 year for you, wouldn't you boo him too?
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) I'd actually pull Gavin for a ph, but that's just me. Unless he's telling you he's getting tired, leave him in at least for another inning. Save the pen a bit more. You don't want to go to Masset even if you're facing S.F.
