  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 07:06 PM) Are you subtly unincluding Mark McGwire because he has no testicles due to steroid use, or did you just honestly miss him? Because if it's the former, well done. I'm glad someone caught that. Yay!
  2. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 07:04 PM) There is no way you can say that right now, given where both players are at in their devolpment stages. How exactly? Lincecum is less than 1 year older than Gio, and they differ by like 20 innings over the last 2 years combined. At those ages, all we really have to project on are things like throwing motion and body type, because it's difficult to say precisely either way, so you sort of do the best you can.
  3. QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) Maybe somebody can clear this up for me...Is PUJOLS on the list??? Ive seen many reports saying he is, and then others with him not on it. Please clarify!! Thanks! No. Albert Pujols is not in the Mitchell report. He was in a phony list that went around this morning before the real one was actually released, along with several other players. 39 of the names in the list that was released this morning were incorrect, and Pujols was one of them. Pujols is not implicated by this report.
  4. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) How do you stop Hillary in mid-cackle? See what Obama said. I'm not exactly certain, but I think this line is going to be wonderful for Obama. It was well delivered, perfectly timed, and seems to have gone over really well. I think it's an excellent little joke to have made right before the Christmas season where people stop paying attention. Especially for people who didn't watch the full debate, if they only get the 30 second highlight clip, that's guaranteed to be in it.
  5. Jim Parque denies it.
  6. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) Fine HARRY REID call them out. The media excuse is bs, the MSM is definately behind the Dems on almost every issue, especially anything to do with global warming. So blame your democrats for this stuff not passing. They aren't doing jack to get anything done. If the Dems had made the Republicans filibuster even 10 percent of the cloture votes they've blocked this year, that's the only thing the Senate would have done since it started; cloture votes. Not a single bill would have passed because of how much time that took.
  7. Oh, and the Republicans also got the Dems to drop the requirement that 15% of all of our electricity would have to be generated by renewable sources within a decade or so.
  8. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 05:17 PM) are these actual filibusters you keep talking about or "threats" of a filibuster? if they are just threats call out the GOP and make them filibuster. why aren't the dems doing that? why isn't Nancy Pelosi bypassing Senate Rule 22 and making them do a traditional filibuster? Well, first of all because Nancy Pelosi isn't in the Senate... And the Dems would make them Filibuster...except last time, the Dems tried it, and the Press was all over the Dems for wasting senate time on nothing but a spectacle. They quite often called it a "Democratic filibuster" despite the fact it was the Republicans who were actually blocking the vote. If the Dems thought they'd actually gain anything by forcing the Republicans into a Filibuster, then they would do so. But when the media isn't on their side, all that the talking to death does is hurt the Dems.
  9. The Republicans today successfully filibustered, by a single vote, a version of an energy bill matching the House version. A much smaller version was passed, restoring the $17 billion in subsidies and tax breaks given to the largest oil companies, but still increasing the CAFE standards and mandating more ethanol production, did pass. So, there you have it. Add in $17 billion for oil companies and you can easiliy break any filibuster. Dems, there's your strategy.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) Ya, it shows how good of a defensive player Quentin is (especially in a corner OF spot). Hopefully he can improve enough offensively to be a good enough starting OF for us. Before he got hurt...in his first callup in 06, he hit 9 home runs and put up an .872 OPS in 166 at bats. There's no "Improve" about it. If he's as healthy as he was in 06, look out.
  11. I'd rather use that 40 man spot on McPherson or Otsuka.
  12. QUOTE(BearSox @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) People talk about Gio being too small, they should look at Lincecum. Gio makes Lincecum look like an 8 year old. That's why I brought up the health issue. I doubt if Lincecum could throw the same stuff and was 5 inches taller and 30 pounds more muscular they'd even consider moving him.
  13. Nuts. That was the team I was really hoping would actually want Uribe.
  14. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 04:40 PM) Williams deals Kong for Lincecum, the off-season can be considered a winner. Who plays 1b for us? How confident are we that Lincecum will stay healthy?
  15. So would people do it if it were PK for Lincecum straight up? That was supposedly what was talked about with Alex Rios earlier this offseason, Lincecum for Rios straight up. I'm really not sure I would.
  16. Fehr stays vague, praising the current testing regime, subtly taking digs at the fact that Selig appointed Mitchell without consulting him and noting that he hadn't reviewed the document before it was released. He sort of asked people to keep an open mind and evaluate the evidence. Did not go strongly against anything. Press conference part starting now, it'd be terrible if no one asked whether or not he'll be open to re-negotiating the CBA again on Mitchell's reccomendations.
  17. Fehr speaking now
  18. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 02:46 PM) Didn't he lose the MVP or some other award to a 'roider? He should be granted that award retroactively if so! Jason Giambi in 2000.
  19. Going along with that...it would still be really, really nice to know the test results from the 2003 test.
  20. An interesting analysis of the Arctic Sea Ice question from AGU.
  21. A fascinating document on the relationship between environmental technology innovation and government action. Link to the paper.
  22. I hate to be the one to say this, but while this raises my hopes that these guys are fully clean, the Mitchell Report certainly does not prove that 100%. It does prove they have not been involved with the balco, Grimsley, or Radomski networks, or anything that has come out so far.
  23. QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 12:33 PM) So is it safe to say that when a show has an episode that ties up loose ends and feels like a season finale, that it's the last episode til the strike is resolved? i.e. My Name is Earl and Friday Night light? There are very few shows with any new episodes left. So for all practical purposes, it's reality TV and reruns and the NBA/NFL until the strike ends.
