  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 10:00 AM) Why does Owens automatically get the job? We know who the better defender is (when healthy) and there's nothing to say Owens will be a better hitter than Anderson. I'd think if it really came down to it, Ozzie could find a good amount of at-bats for both at the major league level, especially with Quentin in LF. Quite simply, Owens has shown me more of an ability to hit major league pitching than Anderson. Anderson has performed pretty well the last 2 ST's, but even in a full season in 06 he couldn't get to the point Owens was last year. And on top of that, Anderson has had major health issues in the last year. What I want before I even give BA a shot to reach the big league squad again (And this is actually coming from one of his usual supporters) is at least a full, healthy, productive month in AAA. At least I want to see that he's healthy and he's back where he was at the end of 2005 before he gets a shot again, and I want him getting AB's for a full month before I say that.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 08:01 AM) The NFL is the wrong sport to reference in this case. They suspend people for off of the field problems They suspend people for drugs and prefomance enhancers They enforce the intergrety of the game by making rules to keep their sport classy MLB wishes it was the NFL, because at least the NFL has integretity. Todd Sauerbrun says "Hi." Then he said he's going to go kick to Hester again. I don't know what that's about. Must be oddly angry about something.,
  3. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) Now I don't recall the exact numbers, but I believe Willie hit something like .350/.415/.610 against lhp last year. Pretty close to that, anyway. Plus, he's ageless. Come home, Willie. His splits are already in this thread. Against LHP: .191 .291 .234 .525
  4. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 07:53 AM) Please U.S. District Judge Susan Illston, schedule an early trial and make threads like this vanish into the night.
  5. Whether we like it or not...Anderson has a spot in this organization right now, in AAA starting in CF. Simply because; the White Sox are in no position to simply be giving away potentially valuable players (and yes, this applies to the guys we lost in the Rule 5 also). Let's say that there is a 1/10 shot that Anderson still turns his career around and becomes a star. What exactly have the Sox got to lose by holding onto him in AAA until he's out of options? Maybe he catches fire, learns something, and either builds enough value for someone to give us at least some small token for him (heck, Quentin just brought the D-Backs our best power prospect after a season where he hit .215 due to injury). I think you start this season with Anderson and Sweeney in AAA, Owens in CF, and keep giving them chances to perform. Because if they don't, what do we lose? Certainly doesn't make us any worse off than we are now.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 08:04 PM) 2007 splits: vs RHB: .320/.392/.527/.919 vs LHB: .123/.215/.142/.356 Not bad Beat me to it. How long do you think until he's the best LOOGY in baseball history?
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 08:00 PM) Isn't Dontrelle very good against lefty hitters? Wow. These may be the most remarkable splits I've ever looked up, for him last year. Certainly for a guy with a 1.60 WHIP overall and an ERA over 5 in the NL. Vs. Left: .123 .213 .142 .355 Vs. Right: .320 .385 .527 .913
  8. QUOTE(ptatc @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 07:41 PM) I would love to get Ethier. I think he will be a very good player in the years to come. I hope that package would do it. Hate to say it, but I'd actually consider Ethier to be slightly overrated these days due to his really hot start in early 06 that put him into the ROY discussion. He'll be solid, but I think this year might be what you can expect from him. Hitting around .300 depending on how hot he gets, OPS .750 in a bad year to .850 in a good year, 10-20 home runs, 60-80 RBI. Good numbers, but not spectacular. Not the kind of guy who makes or breaks a team.
  9. Fred Smoot comes off the field, collapses on his back, grabs his legs, and vomits. Carted off. Interesting.
  10. 6 penalties on 1 drive. That's actually fairly impressive...
  11. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 07:09 PM) That's true, but his point about salary and Hill being under control for 5 years is right. Garland may be the better pitcher -- I'll go ahead and say I think he is -- but Hill would bring a lot more trade. I don't that's even debatable. All those points I'll grant, but I'll go to my grave with these numbers saying there's no chance in Hell you can say Hill had even an equal season to Garland last year.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 07:01 PM) I don't enjoy Chicago Bears football Right now, does anyone? Except their opponents that is.
  13. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 06:54 PM) Really? Because Rich Hill is still 4 or 5 years away from free agency (unlike Garland who is 1 year away), will make less money over the next 4 or 5 seasons combined than Garland will make in just 2009 alone and was just as good of a pitcher as Jon Garland last season. Rich Hill has considerably more value than Jone Garland at this point in their careers. Dude, there is no way that putting up a 3.92 ERA in the NL Central last year is just as good as putting up a 4.23 ERA in the AL Central. Heck, Hill gave up nearly 10 more home runs than Garland while we're at it.
  14. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 06:48 PM) I believe Grossman had really grown. He was hard to evaluate without a line, running game, and one legit reciever (Moose is old and slow). In terms of draft need from least to most urgent TE C WR QB (I have to hear a prognosis on Grossman first. If he's done for the season, this is higher/lower) T RB G Hmmm...if you're putting Guard at the top...how much interest would you have in Faneca?
  15. QUOTE(rockren @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 06:45 PM) The OLine is 100% the reason for the offenses failures this year. Well that and Turner has had a terrible year. I don't care who your O-coordinator is, if your O-Line can't create holes for a running back or keep the D off of your QB, then your coordinator is going to look horrible. Not to excuse anything, but seriously, if your options are "Run for 1-2 yards or have the QB drop back and have a 33% chance of having him sacked/hit", you figure out how to make that work.
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 06:39 PM) So is there ANYHING the Bears don't need upgrades on for the offensive side of the ball (and that's including coaching staff). I'd love to see how any of these pieces could do with an actual Offensive line. I'd love to have seen how Grossman could have performed, with Benson behind him and these receivers, if they had an O-Line that was performing well. It's always struck me as remarkable how many deficiencies a good O-Line can mask. Except for Griese. Seriously, don't you bench him after that one?
  17. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 06:28 PM) hope you're right So do I. Even I'll admit that it would take an awful lot of questionable things going right for this team to be competitive next year. I just am trying to say you can't write off every single guy on this team, young or old, without taking the circumstances into account. Richar hit .230? Sure, but he improved quite a bit as the year went on, he played for 2 months, and he was really raw before coming up anyway. Quentin hit .210? Yeah, but he was hurt the whole year. Danks struggled? Yea, but he was 22. Floyd struggled? Yeah, but he did turn it up at the end. The odds are at least a couple of them will fail. But that doesn't mean that we shouldnt' give them a chance to do so.
  18. Jason Campbell hurt also. Might still return, took a blow to the hand on a play going out of bounds.
  19. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) What happened? In any case, I'm very supportive of Griese and his dump-off passes as I have Adrian Peterson (not Purple Jesus) going for me in fantasy. In fact I hope Peterson is his leading receiver tonight. D-Lineman blocked/rolled into his leg. He's gone.
  20. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) does that seem like a World Series Championship team??? A .215 hitting LF, a .230 hitting 2B and a 3rd/4th/5th starter with ERA's of 5.57, 5.50 and 5.27. Does a world series team seem like one who had pitchers put up ERA's of 4.48, 4.54, 4.78, and 7.15, who's leadoff hitter put up a .314 OBP, and who's LF hit .199 the year before? The guys I just gave you were Robertson, Bonderman, Maroth, Verlander, Granderson, and Thames in 2005. Sure, it might be a bit unfair saying that Justin Verlander was going to fail in 2006 based on the 7.15 ERA he put up in 11 innings in 2005, but I don't see how that's any more unfair than what you just did with the rookie seasons of Richar, Quentin, Danks, and to a lesser extent Floyd.
  21. See, he's crafty. He's trying to make it even harder for people to get into this program!
  22. QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 02:08 PM) What do they do with Juan Pierre? I believe the name "Old Yeller" applies.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) So I missed the game tonight and saw Hinrich only played 16 minutes. Did he get hurt or benched for his crappy play? From Ze Trib:
  24. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) For 2008 he hasn't.....yet. He upgraded at SS but downgraded at SP. He added a bullpen arm but took on an extra $4.5 million of unnecessary salary. So all-in-all we've treaded water. At the same time, our inter-division rivals have either (a) started building for the future or (B) stacked up talent for a 2008 WS run. The Sox on the other hand are sitting in neutral. Erstad + Podsednik = Quentin in your eyes?
