  1. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) Actually I don't mind that as much as anyone else (Well... hopefully LF not CF) as long as we get a good SS and/or CF (I'd rather see Owens in the 9th spot where I'd think he would have a pretty decent season, hopefully 40-50 bags swiped) rather it be through trade or FA. (probably CF since it's going to be very deep) A young, healthier Owens who actually knows how to steal bases, will probably improve in his offense as he usually does (as history tells us from his minor league days) and definitely more range (even though his arm IMO, is weaker than Pods) is our upgraded Scott Podsednik. But like I said, hopefully as a 4th outfielder but I won't HATE it if he was our starting LF. Josh Fields will be our starting LF on opening day next year...i'm fairly confident in that. We'd have to hear about Crede having a really big setback before I change my mind on that. Our opening day OF next year is going to be Fields Owens Dye, and around the horn is going to be Crede...????...Richar...Konerko...AJ. The quality of this offseason, and whether or not we are a winning team next year, is going to be entirely determined IMO on what we get for Garland and whether or not we can fill that SS hole using him.
  2. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) Juan Uribe's September stats: .340, 1.061 OPS, 4 HR in 50 AB. You want him back too? Are you seriously telling me you're somehow unhappy with the job Richar is doing at adapting to the league, and using as your argument a comparison between a guy with 3071 major league at bats and a guy with 144 major league at bats?
  3. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 07:42 PM) You can normally find a good part to anyone's season... come on, are you serious? He's played in the big leagues for less than 2 months. He has 146 career big league at bats. The last 55 of them...he's put up a .945 OPS. That's EXACTLY what we needed to see him do. He was bound to be terrible to start off. He's actually growing into the league faster than I thought. Everyone, say hi to your starting 2nd baseman next April.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 07:39 PM) The Sox could set some sort of record for most the most punchless 1-2 combo in the history of the game next season with that Owens/Vizquel combo. Throw in Erstad as a shadow starter and his .330 SLG% could rock your ass like never before. Thankfully...there's no where for Erstad to play if that happens. Anyway...mark my words...Jerry Owens is going to be the CF and Leadoff hitter for this team on opening day next year.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) Danny Richar's current line for the season: .236/.304/.444/.748 Flat out ri-f***ing-diculous. Danny Richar's line for September: .309 BA, .945 OPS in 55 AB's. 3 Hr's.
  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) Maggs had rocky patches, but I agree it was pretty lame as well. Personally, I would probably have wound up in the booing Magglio group, entirely because of the way his side dealt with the knee injury and the recovery. I'm still unhappy about the fact that his side wouldn't even let the Sox examine him before the arbitration deadline.

  8. Mitt Romney gave a speech outside a hospital today attacking Hillary Clinton's new healthcare proposal. The hospital...St. Vincent's in NYC...has a Giuliani wing in it. The hospital released this statement:
  9. Hillary Clinton today unveiled a new version of a universal health care system...it would basically open up, with subsidies, the government level health care plans to all non-government employees and allow that system to compete with private insurers for signups, thus making it so that no one is forced to change health care providers if they don't want to. It would also include a mandate, again with government assistance, requiring that everyone in the country purchase some form of health care. Edwards, meanwhile, ripped Hillary on Healthcare. And Gov. Richardson opened up a session in front of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) by saying "Thank you AFSCME". Wrong union.
  10. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) Nice! did you catch Stuey on the opening of the Emmy's last night? Pretty damn funny. It's Stewie. Stewart Gilligan Griffin to be exact.
  11. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 10:15 AM) but what uni does he go in with? After hitting #'s 500, 600, and 700 with the White Sox, and coming home with 4 straight world series rings, a White Sox one.
  12. PLease don't shoot the messenger on this one, I'm posting it because it's interesting, not because I agree. Rob Neyer on why Thome may not yet be a HOF caliber player.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 08:45 AM) Jerry Owens is quietly putting together an awesome SEPT So quietly that I pointed it out a week ago Meanwhile...Danny Richar's splits are also worth noting. For September: .280 .321 .500 .821 Last 7 days: .350 .409 .650 1.059
  14. QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 06:42 AM) anyone else hear about the alleged microphones Pats defenders had to record offensive calls and audibles under the guise of being miked up for TV The Jets have supposedly now made that accusation, and Goodell has requested that the Pats essentially turn over every single scrap of paper or recording they have of everything from that game, so we'll see what's included.

  17. 16000 people have now been infected, and 10 have died, in a rapidly growing Cholera outbreak in northern Iraq.
  18. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 11:36 AM) Thome appeared to definitely be swinging for the fences. but he couldn't get it done. When does Jim not?
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 02:13 PM) But does any dictator not go crazy and start killing people? And perhaps there is a better title. The best of the dictators I can think of would be Castro, and that isn't that high of a bar. But you know what? It's not like an absolutely enormous f***ing amount of people aren't dying over there already. Unless you'd be putting Delay @ the Pol Pot level of insanity, he'd be better than what we've unleashed.
  20. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 01:52 PM) Hammer Time '08 Seriously, a kindler, gentler, dictator filled with compassionate conservatism might be the ticket instead of a representative government of some kind. That's actually the single most sensible idea I've heard about our middle east policies in the past 6 years. By a long shot. And this is not in green.
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) Above is a great example of what happens with all low paying jobs in America, regardless of who is working them. Therefore, the solution is a $25/hr minimum wage.
