  1. For a Tornado? Follow the stadium weather forecast and get inside. I would be incredibly disappointed if the stadium itself did not have appropriate emergency procedures for the issuance of a tornado warning covering the stadium. For an Earthquake? Depends on where I'm sitting. If nothing is overhanging me, drop cover and hold on, probably beneath my seat. If I'm in an upper deck area, same deal. If I'm beneath the upper deck at Wrigley, pray. Leave the facility in an orderly fashion afterwards, which should follow any standard evacuation plan that a ballpark should have. When Machado is escorting people into the dugout for safety and there are people running with no idea of what to do...that's a situation where the ballpark doesn't have a worked out emergency plan yet, or alternatively gunfire in a certain spot is a major incident that they can't plan to manage the crowd for. And considering that just 3 weeks ago guys were arrested with a cache of guns across the street from the All Star Game, well...
  2. Every time Cleveland leaves the Rate en route to Minneapolis, Detroit, Kansas City, or perhaps the North Side:
  3. I still don’t expect a catcher. Again with limited assets to trade, that would only make sense if Grandal was in way worse shape than currently known.
  4. I’m not going to be opposed to the White Sox acquiring a RF, but I have yet to see a name presented who is both an upgrade and affordable enough that the Sox could get him while still having enough to trade to fill their much bigger needs at the bullpen and 2b. It doesn’t help this team to acquire Gallo if Cruz hits a 3 run home run in the 8th inning of a playoff game off Ruiz. If they can’t afford a big upgrade, there are still some benefits to Hamilton in the postseason as a pinch runner and defensive replacement. If the White Sox have a 3 run lead, an OF of Hamilton, Robert, and Engel is gonna be hard to get hits against.
  5. The White Sox have been way better at home than on the road and their splits are bigger than any of their competitors. So while picking an opponent may not be plausible yet…they should absolutely be thinking about home field advantage.
  6. Rays are currently 1 game back of Boston, who are tied with us. Boston gets Sale back at some point but you have to imagine this gets the trade market moving. Neither Chicago nor especially Boston want Tampa passing them.
  7. This literally just puts them in a better position to compete with us. Anyway, trying to keep a guy away from a team where he is a better fit is not a good strategy unless you have a ton of resources to trade, which we don’t. Our job is to fill 2b and get bullpen help.
  8. FWIW, if Yermin was having a really bad mental health time yesterday and hit some sort of breaking point, and the White Sox were able to get in touch with him today and either give an assist or start a process of working through things for him, then the organization should be complimented on getting that done.
  9. A .528 OPS is probably ok from a defense-first, 3rd catcher, where you survive with that guy for a couple weeks. I don't feel like anyone has a handle on Grandal's situation, even though LaRussa said he's "ahead of schedule" we also are aware that Grandal has been banged up all year and they've been a little vague about his timetable. In a short version...you can't go into October with Collins and Zavala as your 2 catchers if there is anything you could do to avoid it. Could easily cost us a series. So we're going to talk about it for the next 8 days until we see "Grandal starts rehab assignment", or whenever there is a guy who might be available (Lucroy), it's worth pondering.
  10. What is better overall, Cruz at DH, Mendick at 2b, and Vaughn/Engel/Goodwin in RF, or Escobar at 2b, Vaughn/Eloy at DH, and Engel/Goodwin in RF? Genuine question, because that bat at DH offsets some weakness of putting someone in at 2b for glove.
  11. FWIW, Cruz has an OPS of 1.010 against lefties but still .852 against righties this season.
  12. You just cited a bunch of guys who had success at an early age and said “LaRussa was fine with them he should be able to treat a 29 year old who has been beaten up by the game with financial issues the same, and if they can’t swing it, it’s their fault.” Which is sort of exactly the attitude I’d expect from a LaRussa, frankly - he’s the important one, and who out there would expect a manager to support their players or understand their different needs?
  13. Let’s say it this way….if Tony LaRussa had a Hispanic player who had some of those issues, saw him having too much joy in the game, and said “I need to take that away from him and embarrass him in front of everyone”, the player’s mental issues make that decision by LaRussa look even worse. Whether it was a chapter in the end of his career or the only chapter…it was something the coach shouldn’t have done at the time to any player, and doing it to a guy who was struggling with personal things that the manager should have known something about…yuck.
  14. Every time I see someone today remind me of how much fun Yermin looked to be having in reminded of Robin Williams, the actor and comedian, who by all accounts was the nicest human being you would ever meet, who was always seemingly “on” with a joke or a performance, and who was suffering from depression the whole time. It is a reminder that you don’t know what a person is going through on the inside.
  15. See this part I just don’t buy, it’s not how the human brain works. Every trigger hits a person differently, especially if they do have some other issues. There is a chance he has thought about that incident every moment since it happened and couldn’t deal with it. There is also a chance it was something else or several other things. Speculation that it can’t possibly have been that incident should get the same reaction as people speculating that it was.
  16. So Crochet is one of the few guys capable of pitching 2 innings and although he’s not the best at high stress situations, he would have been an obvious person to pitch the 6th and 7th. Instead, Heuer gives up a 3 run home run, and Crochet winds up pitching anyway down 4 runs with a 2% chance of winning?
  17. You know teams only use 3-4 Starters in the playoffs right?
  18. I was more than happy to pay $30 for that content and will happily do so again in a few months if the Eternals is put out in that format. If a movie theater wants my money, I would be excited to go there again, if there was no risk of exposure to a virus at the time. So, either case loads nationwide would need to drop to practically zero, or the theater would have to verify that everyone in the building has been vaccinated. If they're not willing to do that, then I'll pay a Disney+ fee, or I'll wait until it comes onto Disney+ normally.
  19. Yup, so 3 or 4 days apart. This will definitely improve interest in the MLB draft.
