  1. Jacksonville Florida is today expected to pass their hospitalization record from January and 21% of their tests are coming back positive which is a high point in the pandemic for them. Because baseball is outside I would expect the health department to be lenient, but let’s guess that somewhere around that level would be the point they decide they have no choice because full hospitals trigger crisis procedures. As of right now, Cook County is reporting 68% of people with 1 shot, and 64% in the full metro area. Jacksonville is at 48%. So you’ve got a good head start at limiting an explosion like Jacksonville, but yeah everything anyone can do to get that rate a little higher helps keep everything open. Because of the lack of vaccination in the southern part of the state, Florida and Illinois are basically tied in vaccination rate, and southern Illinois is close to a hotspot in Missouri that could feed new cases. A surge in cases there might not trigger anything in the city, but it’s not something you’d prefer to risk.
  2. Goodwin’s career wRC+ is 100. This year so far it’s 123, best of his career. OPS+ looks similar. He’s well beyond his career marks.
  3. Getting them back to organized baseball once they’re physically ready is a good move. But they also have to give them enough time at Charlotte to get really physically comfortable, with everything. That’s still up in the air.
  4. 2 or 3 unhittable innings vs getting his arm stretched back out, the extra work should have been the priority. If we are that desperate for every win right now, the GM has spent a month not addressing second base. That woulda been at least as valuable as those couple innings.
  5. And that’s the other part of my post - if he isn’t there yet, then he should not be on the big league roster, he should be on a rehab assignment.
  6. More than just that, having him do some Rehb outings or bullpen work after his injury show he is stretched out for 3-4 seems mandatory if you want him to get 100 innings this year.
  7. However they justified it, it is baffling that Kopech is on the roster and not starting this game.
  8. I think there is a real chance that Rodon plays next year on a short term deal or a deal that has an opt out. If he has 2 straight 6 WAR seasons and is still hitting FA in his 20s, he would have a very convincing case that he was over his injuries and deserved a contract comparable to the top pitchers in the league. Plus, he could get through the QO year, if such a thing remains.
  9. I will call myself genuinely surprised, I haven’t ever felt like I’ve seen him use the slider as an out pitch with that level of effect. Anywho, my bad, I saw that wrong.
  10. Somewhere in September in this thread there is a post by me saying f*** this model is predicting 300k cases a day in the US by Christmas and that is such an insane number of deaths that we have to avoid it. We decided it was fine.
  11. Like it or not, this is a reasonable gamble on a short deal. Lynn’s motivation is being on a championship caliber team. That should be motivating enough for him to pitch with his hands clean.
  12. I can’t say how big Luca$’s performance is. Without it…next tIme they got into trouble against the Astros would be “oh god not again”. That could even be in the playoffs. Now, Timmy gets a leadoff double tomorrow and the feeling is “ok, let’s do this, plate him and Rodon is pitching.”
  13. Texas should not do that. If they can’t get a Crochet and a couple talented A ball players, they should just extend him or wait for a better offer. Teams make dumb moves so I can’t say they won’t, but giving up Gallo without a MLB ready centerpiece would be a dumb move.
  14. If I were Texas, I would not insist on a big second piece if Crochet were moved and would accept lower level pieces, but I would not move him without Crochet as a key piece. Your call.
  15. Lucas gets stopped from using spidertack after 2 years. A few games later switches from fastball-changeup to fastball-changeup-slider (maybe minor curveball?). All clean. Has one bad start, then destroys his next 2 opponents using that slider. Luca$ is back. I like Luca$ even more now. Go do this for the rest of your career dude. Buy yourself a trip to space when you retire.
  16. I would certainly hope that Kopech is slotted for Rodon's rotation spot next year.
  17. Well, the Nationals Padres game tonight was ended after gunshots erupted in the LF parking lot. Apparently everyone needs to plan for what they would do if faced with this moment if they're buying baseball tickets now. Game will resume at 1:05 tomorrow. Apparently gunshots are now treated as a rain suspension.
  18. Shots outside the park. Game has been ended.
  19. Throw him until he’s in trouble or 100+ pitches or the game ends. This kind of dominance without cheating has to be huge for him.
