  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 09:29 AM) Plus think of it this way, what better way to sell a firesale than by moving Dye and Contreras yet in the process giving Buehrle a 5 year deal worth a minimum of 70 million. Jose continues to have a full no trade clause this season.
  2. God, if Eaton can shut us out...I'm just terrified to think what Hamels can do.
  3. If Jerry Owens could hit .300 and take a few walks, with his speed, I would have no problem at all with him manning a corner OF spot. He fills a need, and with the talent we have at say, DH, we can sacrifice a few HR's to put some balance into the lineup. Unfortunately, Owens has shown nothing so far that suggests he'll be able to turn into a .300 hitting slap hitter like we need him to.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) Since when have you been in a position to criticize other people saying negative stuff? I even admitted later on that I hadn't seen the article....I just wanted to make sure that Ichiro wasn't referring to the cold....you know, since people have already started to pencil him into the lineup. EDIT: We know very little about what Ichiro is looking for in terms of his next team. We do know that he's looking for a team that can compete for the World Series next year. Between our likely .500 or so record this year, and him complaining about the cold, I didn't think it was a good sign for us. That's all....not much more to it. I don't think we'll get him next year, as he's going to get a ton of money and we'd be better off trying to get someone younger and save some of the money to upgrade in other positions like SS. Yeah, at this point, it's starting to look difficult to believe that Mr. Ichiro will be that interested in Chicago's AL team, given the draft position we'll be looking @ next year and the fact that Buehrle, Dye, and Iguchi are probably not long for this side of the city.
  5. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 08:03 PM) hey balta...do you have any idea about whether iguchi will be type A also? its an interesting thing to consider... i mean i would love to trade buerhle this year (mainly cuz i believe he will bring back 2 major league calibur prospects) and keep iguchi and dye and get 2 first rounders and 2 sandwich picks for them...that way we get some young players ready to contribute in the next year or two for buerhle, that hopefully woul be sure things, and some young players for later down the road in 09 and 10 It's really difficult to know whether Iguchi will be type A...because only the %age of free agents who get compensation matters, and to know that, we need to know how many really good FA's there are who actually leave their teams. For example, if Ichiro winds up staying in Seattle, Big Z stays in CHC, and Dye stays with whoever we trade him to, then those guys are removed from the list of possible type A free agents. Last year, here's what the list looked like for 2nd basemen, for comparison.
  6. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) I agree -- Dye & Cintron for Betemit would be fine with me. I doubt the Sox could do better by waiting. IMO, that's just a terrible return for Dye. I'd much rather have the 2 draft picks. And yes, we get 2 picks if someone signs JD: his performance last year counts when they determine whether he's an A level FA or not.
  7. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) Better than Vladdy? In 06, yes, by quite a bit too. 1.007 OPS last year for JD, .934 for Vlad.
  8. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 09:31 AM) I wouldnt call them "ok" starts. 2 ER in his last 15 innings. Thats pretty good. Is he on his way I dont know, but his last two starts we're far from just "ok". I would say his numbers for the past 4 starts actually haven't been too shabby. Date OPP W L SV IP H ER BB SO May 26 OTT 1 0 0 6.0 7 2 1 5 May 31 LOU 1 0 0 6.1 7 4 2 6 Jun 05 @LOU 0 0 0 8.0 7 1 0 6 Jun 10 IND 1 0 0 7.0 5 1 3 8 6+ in each game, WHIP around 1.17, worst start gives up 4 runs, 5+ k's per game, etc. I think that's basically his numbers since recovering from that little blister issue he had a while back, IIRC.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) I guess other bad teams can hit an 87 mph straight fastball after all. I refuse to believe that's possible.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 06:16 AM) Yeah, it was ridiculous. At first he just warned both teams, then after Renteria was walking up the baseline he turned around and threw Lily out. It was really poor umpiring Given that there's been a bean-ball fest in that series though, I really can't say I blame him. If I were him, I would have passed along a message when the managers came out to hand out their lineup cards.
  11. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 08:34 AM) terrero and gonzalez looked awesome yesterday. gonzalaz is huge, is he a big time spect or just crap? Minor League Totals - 6 Season(s): .262 .354 .361 715, 29 home runs, 66/101 in Stolen bases.
  12. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 08:31 AM) I think people are crazily overestimating Jermaine Dye's value. He can't run and his OBP is below .300. He's shown some power this year, but that's all he brings to the table right now. There are a lot of guys that will be on the market with at least that skill set, and maybe more. The Reds alone will likely be trading Dunn and/or Griffey both of whom are more attractive. The Sox won't get either Billingsley or Broxton straight-up for Dye. They might be able to get Betemit for Dye, but that's it. I think people are going to very disappointed in what the Sox firesale brings back. In that case, take the 2 draft picks, end of discussion.
  13. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) How about Buehrle and MacDougal for Saltalamcchia and Yunel Escobar? Probably not enough to get it done, and I don't really know what to make of Escobar. I just know that ATL would probably be willing to trade him with Renterria/Lillibridge and another 18 yo SS that they really love. Salty they want to leverage for a real need, but with Smoltz, Hudson, and Gonzalez hurt, Buehrle will be the best starter available and MacDougal has good stuff. Stark
  14. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) 1. Delmon Young, of, Devil Rays 2. Justin Upton, ss, Diamondbacks 3. Brandon Wood, ss, Angels 4. Jeremy Hermida, of, Marlins 5. Stephen Drew, ss, Diamondbacks 6. Francisco Liriano, lhp, Twins 7. Chad Billingsley, rhp, Dodgers 8. Justin Verlander, rhp, Tigers 9. Lastings Milledge, of, Mets 10. Matt Cain, rhp, Giants Like I said a lil' while ago...the Dodgers appear to have soured quite a bit on Chad compared to the time that list came out. He just hasn't developed as rapidly in terms of throwing strikes as they hoped. Last year he averaged about a walk every 2 innings or less it looks like...which had him coming out in the 5th inning of most games. If we get him, we're getting him on the "Coop will fix him" grounds, even though he's not in the territory of Floyd, he's no longer a #7 in all of baseball prospect kind of guy.
  15. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) dodgers desperately need some 3b help. If only crede were healthy you could work out a blockbuster with him and dye to LA. While they do need help @ that spot, it's also worth noting that I believe they have one of the better/best 3b prospects in baseball right now (Laroche), and they may well decide they just don't want to block him for a year and a half. The Dodgers have soured on Billingsly somewhat in the past year. A year and a half ago they wouldn't have traded him for the moon, now he's probably actually available, and he may well be someone Cooper could do some good with; his big problem when he came up as a starter was he'd fall behind way too many batters and throw 110 pitches in 5 innings. Broxton also has a good arm, which KW may like. The one thing I will say is...if we're trading Dye for something like this...a solid bullpen arm and another potentially starting arm...the one thing I want to make sure we do is get at least 2 pieces back for him. Because we'll get 2 draft picks for him if we trade him. Don't just give me Dye for 1 of the guys, give me 2 pieces unless you're getting something really, really, really great back.
  16. And a hearty Congrats to Mark Buehrle. Well done sir. 14 more years of this and you'll be @ 300. Go get em.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 12:28 PM) What happened to all that talk from the end of last year about trading Vazquez and keeping Garcia because "he was our best starter down the stretch"? Do you still want Vazquez?
  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) If there was some actual dependable power in the lineup outside of Thome, Konerko, and maybe Pierzynski, it'd be interesting. As is, you're looking at a lineup with the potential to have 4 or maybe 5 starting players put up OPS's of under .700. Add to it that the team might not slug .400 as a team, and I think I'd rather sign Cecil Fielder and put him at 2B than go out there with that lineup. I see that lineup struggling to put up 700 runs. Well, Terrero does so far have an OPS of nearly .900
  19. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 09:24 AM) Arguing with the ump, hitting his bat on homeplate, then throwing his helmet. And I believe the throw was in the general direction of the umpire (although not @ him directly)
