QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 10:01 AM) In 2005, it was essentially Vizcaino. Although I don't think he ever went up into that 3-4-5 innings range. Last year, McCarthy. Luis could reliably give you 2.1 innings. When he came up, before being promoted to Closer, Jenks was used in the 2+ innings role a few times.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 09:20 AM) Well, they certainly didn't have to develop Mauer. They got lucky by being priced-out of Prior in the first place and even drafting Mauer. The Twins do well with developing young pitching, and yet still, they have their Sidney Ponson's they have to throw out there at any given time. But then again, I already went through this yesterday.... It's probably also worth adding that the Twins have managed to pull a few pitchers off of other teams who have turned out pretty good as well. Liriano, Nathan, Bonser, Santana, Reyes, etc.
-
Well...at least they weren't dumb enough to call up Gio.
-
Well, at least Ozzie can now always say "I'm still not Gary Sheffield."
-
So who here thinks Lou won't last a full calendar year on that job?

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) Now let's be honest with ourselves here...They didn't "blow up their team" like it being suggested here. In 2002, they fired Charlie Manuel, they traded Einar Diaz and Ryan Drese to Texas for Travis Hafner. and Bartolo Colon to Montreal for Cliff Lee, Grady Sizemore and others. So that's one Manager and three players. Not exactly fire everyone and trade every except a few people scenerio being presented here. They also let guys like Kenny Lofton and Jim Thome walk in 02 and 03, after having Manny Ramirez walk in 01. Also replaced guys like the Alomars & Travis Fryman within those couple years as well. So it wasn't exactly a firesale, but there was a rebuilding period with guys like CC, Lee, Phillips, Hafner, etc., coming up to take the place of the older guys.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) This will turn into a 28 million dollar tragedy for the Yankees. But hey, he got Scranton/Wilkes Barre a win! His contract doesn't start until he pitches for the Yankees.
-
First of all, Abreu still has a full no trade clause, so he would have the full right to refuse. Secondly, Mr. Abreu's contract is up at the end of this season. He has an option for next year, at $16 million. Money he is no where near earning based on his performance this season. In other words...simple way to look at it. We would have to give Abreu a $2 mil buyout in addition to the rest of his contract. And he'd still walk at the end of this season, because that's insane money for him next year. And no one in their right mind is going to offer him arbitration either...so by doing this deal, we'd also lose out on the right to steal a couple of draft picks like we will when JD walks. So...the deal is JD and 2 high draft picks for Abreu and his contract paying him 2x as much as Dye.

Assuming we still draft a big man and make an effort to resign PJ or use the MLE on someone...why the Hell not, we have a 15 man roster to fill.
-
I think the amount of time that passes before we see Barrett's face is proportional to his injuries.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) Why would he veto troops with drawls? We need all the help we can get! No we don't. We don't need help. Things are fine. Look, Lindsay Lohan's in Rehab and some guy with TB did something!

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) Are you going by what he is doing this year only? GENIUS!! Well, no, but look, Jones is another guy I don't want. Jayson Stark was fully correct in his analysis IMO. You're simply not getting the 50 home run Jones if you sign him for the $20 mil or whatever he'll get per year, that Jones probably only was around for one year. You'd be getting a guy who is just as hot and cold as some of the other guys in our order. And you'd be getting a guy who's lost a lot in range. And even if you got the 50 home run guy, for crying out loud, he hit like .207 with RISP that season.

If Carlos Zambrano is a free agent, would you sign him?
Balta1701 replied to gosox41's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
For the White Sox? No. Pitching is one thing the White Sox are in good shape on. The White Sox have young pitching, and they have signed pitching. If the Sox are spending money, it needs to be on position players. I'll take my chances with Broadway, Gio, Russel, and Danks, along with Jose and Javy for the next couple years before spending money on starting pitching. Another team...maybe. -
No. The White Sox should never, ever employ a former Cub Manager. Not in my lifetime.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 06:29 PM) also... Chris who? Sabo. I loved those goggles. Wonder if he ever started a dugout brawl.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 06:23 PM) Overundre that Javy punches AJ in the dugout? At this point, who hasn't punched AJ? Didn't Javy jave a game exactly like this one last August in Toronto, where a few of us suddenly hoped he'd turned it around after finally getting through the 6th inning and going a full 8?
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) Now if you substitute Andruw Jones for Aaron Rowand I would agree. .229 battin average, .773 OPS...SEXY!

Good start.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 06:13 PM) Or managing to be one of about two guys that Victor Martinez has thrown out in the last two year. Actually, mine was bashing Erstad from yesterday...but either one works at this point.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) It is amazing the dimension speed adds to a game. ... especially when the speed isn't getting pick off 1B. Or thrown out trying to steal 2nd with a man on 3rd and Thome on deck.
-
Yay, Runs and pitching!
-
I have 2 theories. Either Barret was actually trying to point at the sky on that wild pitch/throw past 3rd... Or in fact, AJ and Zambrano have become good friends and Z was defending AJ's honor.
-
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 12:13 PM) That's usually what happens when 2/3 of your starting outfield goes down with injuries. These things also tend to happen occasionally when your average starting OF age is 32. Go get em Jerry. We could use someone stepping up. Just hit freaking .300 please.
-
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 10:34 AM) Can we take Buerhle off the list please?? Until he's signed, he's at the top of the list. End of discussion. Want him off the list? Extend contract.

Who would make a play for A-Rod now?

QUOTE(max power @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) I didn't realize that most people here thought the yankees management was half retarded. Dude, I have 2 words for you. Carl Pavano.
