In 2005, when there were days where I couldn't see the games, it proved darn useful, especially in the condensed version, because you get guaranteed highlights of your game within about 20 minutes. I don't watch it very much these days I'm afraid, but I don't watch much tv these days anyway. Don't have time.

Cotts to AAA, according to Comcast Sportsnet

QUOTE(fathom @ May 23, 2007 -> 10:16 AM) I think this is a great post besides for one statement you make. Dye's first two years with this organization are as memorable as anyone has ever had. Compared to Ordonez, Dye in 05 was significantly better defensively. He has taken steps backwards towards Ordonez territory the past 2 years with age, but there's no denying in my book that he came in as a good defensive upgrade from Ordonez. -

So, it appears that the Dems in Congress have completely capitulated, and are going to fund the war with no additional requirements, benchmarks or questions asked all the way through the end of 2008. Meanwhile, even though May has not yet been completed, this has already been the deadliest 6 month period in Iraq for U.S. soldiers to date. And it is entirely possible that April and May will become the first back to back 100+ casualty months since the start of the debacle.

Yankees about to contest Giambi's contract?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2007 -> 06:43 AM) Where is his suspension then? Amphetimines only bring a suspension on the 2nd offense. The first offense is private and I believe requires counseling, which is why Bonds was never suspended for them either. -
Kick ass big Jon.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 22, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) i know, it's just funny to me that he charges $55,000 to talk about poverty. Colin Powell spent most of his talk @ IU talking about America's promise, a group he founded to help underpriveledged youth. The amount of money we paid him to talk about that was incredible. Sadly, this is just how the lecture circuit goes. These universities have money to spend on lecturers, and it gets spent, oftentimes regardless of the person or the work they've done.

QUOTE(Chi Town Sox @ May 22, 2007 -> 03:27 PM) i find it funny that some people in this topic are saying mcnabb is this mcnabb is that when he is healthy...would these be the same people talking about grossmans health last year? Barring an unbelievable improvement by Grossman this year, a 100% McNabb >>> a 100% Grossman. The only thing that would counteract that statement would be if Grossman were vastly more likely to stay healthy than McNabb. If McNabb was hurt every year and Grossman was healthy every year, that could turn things around. But of course, Grossman has spent probably more time on the IR list than McNabb the last few years.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 22, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) ^^^^^ Him in centerfield would like damn nice. I can think of a lot of other ways that the Sox could spend $15 mil that would get me drooling more than that. -

I'd say the possibility is much greater next offseason than this one.

If there were some way to pull off said deal for McNabb involving Briggs and Grossman, it's almost impossible for me to think it shouldn't happen. That said, I find it hard to believe that Philly would do such a thing. Briggs and Grossman both would be FA's at the end of next season. While they might not mind losing Grossman if Kolb is ready, basically they'd be downgrading their QB to Grossman at best this season and guaranteeing Kolb the job in the future. I just don't see Philly doing that deal, given that it would cut into their chances of winning this year. And I can't imagine them doing it if Grossman wasn't included; because then they're stuck with Feeley and Holcumb for this season, which is basically a white flag.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 22, 2007 -> 12:49 PM) If you compare his 748 OPS, he'd be right in the middle of MLB CFers. Once again, not terrible by any stretch of the imagination. That would put him ahead of Andruw Jones, Damon, Taveras, Ryan Freel, Baldelli, Crisp, Cameron, Victorino, Lofton, Bautista, Pierre, Borchard, Patterson and Duffy. It's also possible that if you filter out the worst 43 at bats of those other guys, their OPS might improve also.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ May 22, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) Any info on the guy pitching for the A's besides that he was on the Drew Carey show. 1st round pick of Texas in the 1999 Draft (#38). 12-13 career MLB record, 6.76 ERA. Only seen 2 big league innings since 04; 2 innings pitched with Detroit last year. Usually puts up an ERA a little below 4.00 in the minors. Had shoulder surgery back in 04.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 21, 2007 -> 09:51 PM) Having worked as a director @ Union Board @ Indiana University, let me tell you, that was the fee for a mid-level speaker of some notoriety. When we had Colin Powell or Elizabeth Dole, they were several times that fee for a single appearance.
-
That is a very surprisingly low price for a speaker of his level. Unbelievably low.

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 17, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) I thought with Social Security the problem has been that deductions alone are not paying for all the benefits and we've had to augment that with other tax revenue. I don't think it's Social Security has been a surplus and they are using it elsewhere. Social Security has been running a planned surplus since the early 80's and the Greenspan reforms. The design was to have Social Security take in more money for the 30 years from the mid 80's to the mid 10's so that when the baby boom hit retirement, Social Security would have extra money saved up. Social Security has therefore been running a surplus in the hundreds of billions of dollars per year for years now. The problem with that plan is that the Social Security Administration used that money to purchase government bonds...and the Congress treated the money coming in through those bond purchases as added tax revenue in the general fund. Therefore, the couple hundred billion Social Security surplus has been spent every single year. Without that revenue, the deficit would have been $200-$300 billion a year greater than what we've already seen it as. The problem is, those bonds are going to come due eventually when the Social Security system starts cashing them in. So either the government will be raising taxes again to pay for them, or it will decide to destroy the world's financial system and default on its debt. Al Gore's whole "Lockbox" thing was a proposal that the government should stop spending all the money in the Social Security surplus, so that the money would actually be available when the baby boomers retired, instead of constantly spending it as part of the general fund.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 17, 2007 -> 11:11 AM) If he keeps losing at such a ridiculous pace, do you think they'll actually keep him around for the entire season? Who do the Cardinals have right now who could replace him?

Bears DE Alex Brown asks premission to seek a trade
Balta1701 replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Do the Redskins have anything the Bears would want? Because they're quite desperate for anything resembling a pass rush. -
There is no reason for him to come back to play in games he can't play in.
-
At least he got a hit before leaving.
