QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) No, Salty is almost untouchable. It has been reported numerous times that the Braves are only THINKING about trading him for a big time player locked up for at least a couple more years. Well, sometimes situations do change...like the recent collapse of the Mets which has helped the Braves move up to the point where they're breathing down their necks. Andruw Jones gets hot at some point, and perhaps the Braves start thinking they're one player away.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 12:13 PM) Owens is trade bait...Sweeney should be up and getting consistent at bats with Josh Fields. My guess is we will see that happen, but not until the Sox make a trade or two (which will hopefully be before July 1st). Is there anything the Sox can do with Sweeney by keeping him down this year that will add another year to his arb clock despite the fact that he was already up once? (Yes, I'm being cheap). And on Anderson, I'd like to see him up, but not yet. He's still getting over some shoulder issues and he hasn't yet found anything resembling a AAA groove with the bat yet. I'd still hate for this organization to give up on him and sell when he's at his dead lowest value, but there's no reason for him to be on the big league team right now. Post trading deadline, I think it might be a decent idea to work that kid back in if the team ever expects to get anything out of him.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 02:41 PM) Those were arguably our 2 best hitters (sans Thome) when they went down. What are you talking about? When you compare people performing poorly to people who are performing like garbage, the poorly performing people look a lot better.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) Oh, gross. Floyd has been doing very well in AAA ball for the last month or so since coming back from some blister problems. -
QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) 25, led off the 9th with an inside the parker. Yikes. Brewers come back and tie it off Nathan in the 9th. Prince Fielder legged out an inside the park home run? You have got to be kidding.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 11:41 AM) Josh Fields has some very 'odd' power. Take that ball he just hit down the RF line in the Pittsburg game -- I thought that was just a little looper that was going to drop in front of their RFer. It ended up landing all the way by the warning track. His pop-ups just tend to go a long way. I imagine that's a testament to how strong he is. Seems like keeping him and Mr. Thome on the roster together might be a pretty good idea. Because that sounds to me exactly like Mr. Thome as well, except from the other side of the plate.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 11:42 AM) So we are sacrificing gooch to resign Buehrle If we could find a way to move the salary of either Contreras or Vazquez to open a rotation spot and get another piece somewhere in the field in exchange for them, that's actually starting to seem like a pretty good idea. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) If Traschel is seriously the second best guy that will be available...than not only is Buehrle's value going up (to the point that I will continue to stick to my Pelfrey/Milledge of Martinez plus a high upside lower level guy) but Jose Contreras value will be up as well (if they can find a way to sell him). And one guy who is really helping with those possibilities is a kid named Gavin Floyd...
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 10:10 AM) I think you've picked up on the first deal in the upcoming weeks. Gavin Floyd lately is making KW's job so much easier...

Brian Anderson for Adam Dunn. Adam Dunn walks. White Sox offer arbitration, White Sox receive 2 draft picks. Overall deal: Brian Anderson for 2 draft picks. Good deal.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 07:23 PM) This is where you and I differ. I think Bush knows we have to stay in Iraq right now, and so do the Democrats... but the Democrats want to publicize this as "BUSH'S WAR" when in fact this is "AMERICA'S WAR", like it or not. Balta refuted me when I said that, but I stick to my guns here, because without the help of Clinton, Edwards, et. al., Bush would have had to go it "alone". But they gave him the permission to go in. Here's my counterpoint; if America "loses" the Iraq war, whatever we want to define as losing, will America survive it? If Iraq collapses, and the U.S. army is embarassed, will the U.S. fall apart into civil war? Will we rescind the constitution (well, the remaining parts of it)? Will our economy collapse? Will there be riots in the streets? World War 2, I will obviously grant, was America's war. We lose that war, and we're speaking some combination of German and Japanese. But the United States will not fall even if we pulled every single soldier out of Iraq ASAP. The United States will not fall if everything goes wrong. If we screw up, we may face decades of terrorist activities, but we've probably arranged for that anyway by training these guys for 5 years. If this were America's war, then America itself would be on the line. It is not. The future of certain parts of America, i.e. parts of the defense industry, parts of the energy industry, and the Republican Party, they are certainly at stake. But America will go on, no matter what. And on that, I will stick to my guns.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) Just curious. You are saying we basically should trade the whole team. Do you realize putting AA and AAA players on the field and the Saying that any player should be available ≠ Trading away the entire team. Obviously, that person is saying that you only trade a person if the right offer comes along, not just sold away in a way that doesn't make us better. If we could get back 15 top level prospects by selling off the majority of team, then it might well make sense to make those deals and put as much talent on the field as humanly possible.

We just need the Metropolitans to continue struggling. And another pitching injury woudln't hurt either.

Well, I'd like to add, once again...this is another deal that only makes sense if some of our other OF talent develops. YOU HEAR THAT, MR. ANDERSON?!?!?!?! -

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 09:10 PM) That reads like his AAA start is against us. He's starting against the White Sox on Monday. That would be an insult directed at the team the Pirates just embarassed.

Marlins Right Hander Josh Johnson has completed a AA rehab assignment recovering from an irritated nerve in his pitching arm. He will rejoin the team this week, and will make one AAA rehab start, this coming monday at the Chicago White Sox.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 07:44 PM) Of course if it doesn't agree it must be biased. The really interesting thing is even the "unbiased" studies out there, don't take into account the HUGE cost that will be added to our tax base when amnesty is granted to 12,000,000 more people. People want to panic about the cost of social programs and the budget deficit now, try adding at least 12 million people to those numbers... You keep harping on this fact without acknowledging the other side to it; it's not exactly cheap to do anything else to fix the problem either. It's not exactly cheap to turn 15 million people into refugees. It's not exactly cheap to replace 10 million workers with higher paid employees overnight. The longer we sit here harping about this without coming up with some sort of fix, the more it's going to cost, because the more people there will be. -
Oh for crying out loud...

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 07:16 PM) I hope Day can return healthy for next season. I really liked what I saw from him, outside of those two outings. His slider has really looked good coupled with that mid-90's fastball with movement. Not quite, we need Bukvich to implode so we could recall Sisco. Are we already talking about him being out for the season?

Well, that was quick.
