  1. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) FWIW, the viva el birdos blog has had posts that claim Cardinals management has said Rasmus is untouchable. I think the Cards would be willing to give up a Reyes and maybe a B pitching prospect. The 2 draft picks we'd steal from them are worth more than that IMO.
  2. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 10:40 AM) I fear more Jon Adkins types are heading are way. I think the only reason the fire sale has not begun is because no team is desperate enough to give what Kenny wants. Which, until the end of July, is exactly how things should be. If we have to drop the price for guys at the deadline in order to move folks, then we'll do so then. Until that point, you never know who's going to get hurt or who's going to hit a losing streak.
  3. Not sure if that's a smart move given the mess in Baltimore or a stupid move given some of the negative things said about Girardi last offseason.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) Knowing how things are going, Joey Devine would be the best player we'd get back. Then don't trade him, and take the picks.
  5. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 09:18 AM) In left, I'd be fine with it provided CF and RF have strong defenders. The Sox next season are looking at an OF of Sweeney, Erstad, and X and since neither Sweeney nor Erstad will provide much power I'd like to see X be a slugger in LF. Pena is still young, I think you can expect some over .800 OPS seasons from him playing regularly. Sweeney is a pretty good defender, Erstad though isn't going to be making up for Pena's lack of range at all, esp. with yet another year and another set of injuries on him.
  6. I would really not be a fan of putting WMP in the field, personally.
  7. Considering they went 20 years without a winning streak of longer than 8 games, and only got to 9 games last year (First time since the 80's), something tells me it's going to be a long, long time before the White Sox win 10 games in a row. One of the most dominant world series winning teams in recent years, wire-to-wire first place, best record in the league, 11-1 in the postseason, couldn't get past 8 game winning streaks.
  8. Am i the only one who that remark makes sense to? Basically he said a half, ok wait, more than a half.
  9. Actually saw a car with a Ron Paul sticker today.
  10. NYT: Bloomberg says he's not running.
  11. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) Picky, Picky... MLB suspended RHP Chad Qualls three games for throwing a ball into the stands during Monday's game. Qualls was upset after giving up three runs to the Angels, so when the inning was over, he took the baseball and fired it into the upper deck. Apparently, that's frowned upon. I want to see a suspension every time someone flips a ball in the stands either on a foul or to end an inning.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) Me. Hey, he's my AAP!
  13. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:42 PM) How about Maddux, Glavine over the years? I don't know how long each contract they've ever signed has been, but they've been worth their contracts. Smoltz. Randy Johnson's been worth his contracts, hasn't he? Not necessarily the latest, but he's been worth most of his contracts. Interestingly, I'm pretty sure that most of those folks wound up being on shorter deals that were renewed. RJ's best deal, his 4 cy young in a row deal with the D backs, was a 4 year deal IIRC.
  14. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) I agree 100%. Hell during the games too. "Take over Joey...I'm in the bag..."
  15. Well, in response to that, I'll ask my question again. Can anyone please name for me a pitcher who has been given a 5+ year deal who has actually been worth the money for the length of the deal?
  16. We need Ozzie to start drinking before the press conferences...
  17. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) Maybe now he can punch Bonds in the face As big as Barry's head has grown, all you have to do is raise your hands when you're a catcher, and you're bound to clock him.
  18. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 01:58 PM) Yeah, we need a middle infield prospect. Reyes. So make that Martinez, Milledge, Pelfrey and Reyes for Buehrle. Actually no deal unless Humber is also included. Yeah -- Martinez, Milledge, Pelfrey, Reyes and Humber for Buehrle. No, wait a sec, I don't want to give up Buehrle, give 'em Contreras. Martinez, Milledge, Pelfrey, Reyes and Humber for Contreras. Still kind of risky though, they should probably include one more guy. We'll give them Crede if they give us Wright.
  19. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) TB would trade Dukes, but he keeps texting the GM with pics of a giant uzi. TB would probably trade Dukes right now if anyone would give them anything for him. I think most teams are expecting him to be released eventually, and thus aren't offering anything for him. Or They're expecting him to end up in the same mess as Urbina.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:13 PM) What clip did the Indian's play at in '05? Until Sizemore dropped that ball, they had a stretch where they were at about .750 for 2 months.
  21. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 11:38 AM) I will say until my face turns blue that Milledge > Gomez. For the love of God, Milledge > Gomez. Well, one question is whether or not the White Sox could put up with Milledge's attitude. He's already known as something of a prima donna, which is probably why he's not the starting OF for the Mets right now. Yes, we've turned AJ into something, but our team has also had its issues with guys like BMac and BA for whatever reason, so despite how good he is, you have to wonder how well he'd mesh with Ozzie et al.
  22. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 12:49 PM) No way Seattle deals Allen. It would be a PR nightmare. I dunno, I think that if they walked out of everything with Oden they could get away with that.
  23. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) Anyone loving Icky Thump as much as I am? So, I take it you'd say that's worth spending some $ on before I do a 30 hour car drive?
  24. If Broadway can give the Sox 200 innings with an ERA around the league average every year, then sign me up. That's all I'm hoping for. Oh, well, that, and him & Floyd continuing to pitch well enough for KW to decide that it's time to start selling starters.
