IMO, the appropriate response after the Congress fails to override the veto (and both houses should make sure to vote on that) is to come back and give Mr. Bush everything he wants...a totally unfettered bill that funds his war... For 3 more months.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 1, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) I have a bad feeling the Warriors might sandbag tonight and put all their energy into winning this thing in Oakland in game 6. I know that crowd is great and they play well out there, but I hope that isn't how they go into tonight. I have a bad feeling it will be though. It would be really dumb of the Warriors to sacrifice the momentum they have going. Suddenly Dallas wins a game and all that infighting we're seeing right now could just vanish. -
QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 1, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) I know Bradley is a nutjob, but he would look real good in center field for us. He hasn't had any problems in Oakland yet either. If you exclude injury problems...

QUOTE(heirdog @ May 1, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) Question: If BA was sent down at the end of spring training as opposed to breaking the season with the big club would that have been the last game he played with the organization? Personally, I think/hope that either way, we haven't seen the last of BA in this organization...because if we have, then we're in real trouble the next few years when our vets start walking.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) Ha, so it does! I looked at the countdown and thought it was 4 days until it started, looks like it started 4 days ago. Usually those types of countdown counters stay on 00:00 after the final second ticks off. LOL http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_5784517?ncli...?nclick_check=1

4 years ago today...major combat operations in Iraq ended, and the United States and her allies emerged victorious.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 11:38 PM) I wonder if the majority of ESPN analysts have ever picked a Chicago team to win a playoff game/series. Well...somehow, I think there was a period in the 90's where they really didn't have much of a choice. -
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 1, 2007 -> 08:49 AM) Erstad CF Ozuna DH Iguchi 2B Dye RF Konerko 1B Crede 3B AJ C Uribe SS Terrraro LF I for one will be very, very angry if Ryan Sweeney is called up and is only used as a platoon player. If we're calling him up, he needs to be in the lineup every single day. Give em Jell, Havy.

Apparently Terrero is the move, not Perez

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2007 -> 06:49 AM) I might be alone, but I like the move. Anderson wasn't going to play here, so why let him rot on the bench. The only way the kid is every either going to get his stroke back, and/or regain any trade value is to be playing everyday where someone can see him. Terrero is no one as far as I am concerned. He is the 25th man, and isn't going to get but 10 ABs tops while Thome is out anyway. If we are going to let someone rot, it might as well be someone with no trade value in the first place. If Anderson is not going to be starting 8/10 days or more...then this was 100% the correct move. As long as Sweeney starts 9/10 days while he's up. -
82 inmates at Gitmo completely cleared of all charges...but the U.S. is unable to let them out, because a lot of countries don't want people back who have spent 5 years being "interrogated" by the U.S. The U.S. also indicated that of the 380 or so people still held there, only 60 to 80 would ever be put on any sort of trial, the rest will eventually be released.

Well, I'll join in the burst of "What did your guy do this month" on Floyd. 2007 Season Team League W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR BB SO GO/AO AVG CHA INT 1 1 3.24 4 4 0 0 0 25.0 27 10 9 4 10 25 0.79 .293 WHIP is too darn high (1.48), but the ERA isn't bad at all. Couple of home runs, giving up a lot of hits. Does seem to be keeping the ball on the ground, and averaging almost a strikeout an inning.

Jaret Wright to the 15 day DL. I never knew he came off it. El Duque and Jose Valentin are both going to be out a while. 15 day DL for both. Partially torn ligament in the leg for Jose, Shoulder Bursitis for Duque. Man, John Maine is saving that team, but they still need more pitching. A former Mets locker room employee confessed to being a major provider of steroids to MLB, and has agreed to cooperate with federal and MLB investigations. There were some reports that this guy was one of, if not the biggest supplier to MLB after Balco was put out of business. Bob Wickman to the 15 day DL with a bad back.

So, if you have the time to watch Bill Moyers's documentary on the way the press totally rolled over for the administration on the Iraq war...it's available here.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) That seems like the correct strategy. They have to avoid character issues and grab the values that the GOP has abandonded (fiscal conservatism) and avoid the special interest pandering that caused the Dems to lose their backbone, and we have a winner. Couple of points...what exactly makes anyone out there think that fiscal conservatism is actually a popular political point of view? In some circles it gets brought up a lot, and there are a few people who get elected running genuinely on it, but just look at the performance of the supposedly fiscally conservative party. Massive expansion of government spending up and down the board, and still people keep supporting it. It took a lost war for people to genuinely start turning against that party. The simple fact is this...if I'm a voter...it's in my best interest to vote for the candidate who promises me the most while making me spend the least. In other words, we won't raise your taxes, we'll run deficits to cover these tax cuts, we'll give you all these new medicare benefits without worrying about how they'll be paid for (and we'll lie about the cost while we're at it) and you will love us! And second...what exactly makes people think that any viable candidate will be able to compete without pandering to special interests, specifically the moneyed interests, in order to run a campaign in this pricing environment?

QUOTE(Shadows @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) Anyone have a link to a site with updated UDFA signings? Supposedly they're not all known until around the end of this week when teams start posting their rosters for the upcoming season. It does sound like the Bears have done pretty well in finding potentially talented folks in the UDFA market though

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:34 PM) hell no, he hates us. He may dislike some specific people within the organization, very important ones at that...but take a moment and remember the ovations he received last year with the A's in his first game back.

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 10:52 AM) Screw Baldelli, I'm willing to bet we could go get Freel for cheap from Cincy right now. Yeah, because signing a new, affordable contract usually drives guys' value through the floor.

QUOTE(Wanne @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 09:58 AM) Dude...we're talking Rocco Baldelli....not Vernon Wells. He's good...but not giving up the farm good for god's sake. But...because he's still quite cheap, the D-Rays have very little motivation to trade him until they find someone willing to give up the farm. They can run with an OF of Baldelli, Crawford, and one of their other young OF's until someone is willing to meet their price...and their price is similar to what they got in the Kazmir deal. They've done exactly the same thing for years now. They'd rather hold onto people and wait for the right deal than make a deal too early. It cost them with Huff, but it's also helping keep their expenses low.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 07:07 AM) Last I knew, the Thome thing was indeed short-term. 15 Day DL, yes? Did I miss something? I don't think anyone is suggesting that Sweeney is the "answer" at DH if Thome is suddenly out all year. Besides, Sweeney is better defensively than some of the OF's we have now, so I'd rather see some of them DH'd and Sweeney in the field. I think part of the problem is...yes, it's only the 15 day DL, but I believe Podsednik is only on the 15 day DL as well. The 60 day DL opens up a spot on the 40 man, but it requires a guy to be out for at least 60 days. Thome could be out for as little as 15 days, but we don't know. It's a muscle pull in an area that doesn't heal the next day and which is put under a ton of strain by his swing. Thome could miss 15 days, 30, 45, 60, or more for all we know. They'll rest him until the muscle feels better, then start inching him back into swinging, but on a 36 year old body, who knows how long exactly he's gone for. And Sweeney better be playing every damn day. Either Dye or Konerko should DH, and if sweeney is up, he better be starting 9/10 games or more. -
QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 07:39 PM) and maybe the white sox organization has already determined that anderson is not the future CF for the white sox right or wrong maybe 400 ABs was all they needed to make that decision And if they have made that decision, they're nearly guaranteeing that the team won't make the playoffs in the next couple of years. I hate to break it to you people, but the White Sox need Brian Anderson. This team does not have the money to not only hold onto the people it has now, but improve along with the other teams in the division. We do not have the money to hold on to JD, Iguchi, and Buehrle, and in addition find a real CF next year. We absolutely need these kids. We need Brian Anderson to find his swing. He doesn't have to be dominant, but he needs to be a starting major league baseball player. Because we just don't have the money to find that many replacements.

Personally, I'm a lot more in-between. I think there are some guys who will just be good no matter what happens, but then there are a lot of other guys who's performance is decided in no small party by who teaches them and how they're handled early in their career (in terms of both performance and injuries). I just think about all of the people who we see with a ton of talent but who are just unable to put it all together and compare them to the guys with equal or even lesser talent who do less with it. There's just so many variables...and a good chunk of them have to be related to the situation.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) "That year out of the bullpen ruined him!" Honestly? I know it's wrong to blame that, but it certainly appears to have not been a good thing for him.
-
QUOTE(Scwible @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 09:14 AM) the fact that this is the outlook already on Anderson makes me wanna puke. It's worrisome...but not a death knell yet. The exact same thing was being said about Boone Logan last year, and suddenly...he looks damn good.

QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 01:49 PM) This team is a .500 team. They will play this kind of ball the whole year. It's either homerun or nothing. Walker should be fired for our lack of having a decent hitting approach. KW did nothing this offseason to help this team win now. Not one thing. All second half of last year and so far this year has been the same crap with this team. Hit a homer, or don't hit at all. Right now, this team is not a .500 team. Without Mr. Thome, and with none of their best 4 other hitters doing anything reasonable with the bat, and with virtually no youth on the field it seems...this team is a below .500 team. If they put Thome in this lineup, they are a slightly above .500 team...if a few people start hitting then we'll see, but right now, this team is not a .500 team.
