Yeah, and this was also a messed up season so how much do you really want to take from one game.
-
That basically guarantees Nagy and Pace another year right?
-
I look at the Bears roster and think they just gave up a top 10 pick, but yeah, Fields could readily have been a top 5 pick so…
-
It’s the Bears, it doesn’t have to. Hopefully it will.
-
I still think they’re going to regret giving up next years’ pick, but yeah if they just get decent QB play it’s worth it and yeah, I think a lot of people were overthinking it with Fields.
-
2 straight walks, last One on 4 pitches. Swing first 2 pitches they’ll be strikes right?
-
That Detroit lineup…not exactly hard to believe. 1 guy hitting above .221.

Another that's interesting is Indiana MBB. After this year's tourney miss, they were as toxic as anywhere. They fired the coach, couldn't get Stephens in there, but they hired a guy who immediately went out and did things they liked. Brought in solid assistant coaches including a program veteran. Immediately landed a couple recruits. Earlier this week, Indiana's Twitter Feed posted a video/meme responding to all the people who spent last year saying "Why aren't they practicing shooting free throws!!!" with a demonstration that the team was actually doing that, it had some good viral reach, and the responses to it were mostly some version of "aww yeah/love it". A handful of sensible moves that show promise and all of a sudden a fanbase gets fired up.

LOL nope.

I think it's pretty easy to believe "The Packers will make Aaron Rodgers sit out the entire season before they trade him." Probably easier to believe than with the Texans and their QB.

Honestly, the solution to the toxic culture in the fanbase isn't one unique to Soxtalk, it instead is for a change in the way the team operates. It's not just here. If you go onto Twitter and look at anything related to the White Sox, it's probably worse than here. This is the direct result of the behavior of the franchise - the years of neglect, the way they respond to the fans including regular occasions when the team calls out their fans, the losing, and then to throw something as completely nightmarish as the LaRussa hiring into that. A world series win probably changes that too, but getting there and losing to the Padres would be...well... The White Sox fanbase might have more experience at this than others at this point, but they're not the only ones. The Bears fanbase is almost in the same boat right now. You go through random NFL related Twitter feeds and you find Bears fans ripping Pace and Nagy because that's all they've got right now. On the other hand, the Bulls fanbase was equally jaded for a long time, but as of right now that fanbase is sitting back and hoping for better, because they shook up the front office. They made a big trade this year, it honestly doesn't look that great right now, but people are giving them the benefit of the doubt and at least waiting as there was a genuine change in how they were handling their business.

When you’re already in an ultra competitive setting, there are some behaviors that are just going to need to be managed. Baseball players want to be in the lineup every day. Pitchers don’t want to come out of the game. Wide receivers know they’re open and are angry you’re not getting them the ball. Michael Jordan isn’t just going to beat you he also wants to destroy your career and devour your soul. Good managers understand that and say “we’ve got this, you gave us what we needed today” or “take a day off Jose for the good of the team” or “Michael who’s open (Paxson!)”. They take those traits and keep them focused and turn them into wins and championships. Bad managers allow those traits to undermine the team.
-
That doesn’t mean they should, that means they are going to do so.
-
Taking the pressure off the players by putting them in situations where they will fail is an interesting strategy.
-
If the pitching coach wasn’t ok with that then there are some serious internal problems.
-
Jose Abreu has had 0 days off. DHed 1 time.

Feel Entirely free to make a Katz complaint thread. Cat puns encouraged.

Note the difference between this question and the one I just replied to. In the previous case, you're asking if the player should go to the manager and say "I'm done". Here you're asking if the manager or pitching coach should go to the player and ask, and take the player's statement into account. Big difference. The player might give an iffy response to the question even if he would never walk over to the manager and give him the ball.
-
No. You’re asking a player in professional sports to come to the manager and say, mid adrenaline high, that he is going to let his team down and pull himself out of the game. Pitcher should never be expected to say that, they always say they can do one more guy even if they know they can’t. Player is probably going to lie half the time if the manager asks them, it’s on the manager to know his players and the situation better than that. You’re happy when a player says “hey my elbow feels weird” rather than pitching through it.

It's going to take an awful lot going wrong for this team to be below .500 in August.
-
I will still go the exact opposite. The only thing that stops Tony LaRussa from managing this team in 2022 is there not being baseball in 2022.
-
My bad, I merged this with a different thread and it kept the new thread name.
-
I think there's a very substantial chance that if the Bears trade away next years' first round pick, they're trading away a top 10 pick.

Got it. For the raw numbers - with 0 outs and a runner on first, odds of scoring 2 runs are 12.4%. Odds of scoring 2 runs with 0 outs and a runner on 2nd are 13.9%. Odds of scoring 2 runs with 1 out and 0 runners on are 3.8%. So, a stolen base increases the chances of scoring 2 runs by 1.5%. A caught stealing decreases the chances of scoring 2 runs by 8.6%. So basically, you better have a 90% chance or better odds of that stolen base being successful for that to be a good move. (%ages from here: https://gregstoll.com/~gregstoll/baseball/runsperinning.html)

Not really. Now you have 1 runner in scoring position…down 3 runs, late in the game where you don’t have time to scratch away. Effectively the game hasn’t changed, you still need a big inning.
