QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) i don't think the royals could score enough to make me confident they could win any particular game, especially one versus detroit when we need them to... Hopefully Mike MacDougal can come back strong and get Burgos out of that closing disaster he's been.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) Like I said, it's more like five weeks than a month and a half. And Anderson sucked for four of those five weeks. I agree that Anderson may very well be trending upwards, but a week's worth of stats doesn't really say much. Rowand's already an established average-to-above-average hitter, so a bad five weeks is probably more indicative of a slump than anything else. I don't see any hard evidence that his hitting skills are on the decline. But I am optimistic about your boy Anderson. It may take time, but he's going to develop into a solid hitter. I for one wouldn't say that Rowand is declining, but I would say that Rowand had a good couple months, and now a bad month or so, which means he's trending right towards his career numbers, and putting up exactly the numbers I was so disappointed in last year.

QUOTE(samclemens @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) by "a lot of people" are you referring to the iranian government, which funds hezbollah, who are terrorists, or are you just referring to the hezbollah installments the israelis are attacking right now to get back kidnapped soldiers? and how is hezbollah not a terrorist organization? Are all terrorists by definition Islamofascists?

QUOTE(samclemens @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) i didnt know that, interesting. my guess would be that if the prez has it, so will the VP, but i dont have the motivation to check. From Salon.com, last October.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) So why not leave the games/innings in the Mackowiak table? Because until I posted it I didn't know whether or not it'd fit on one line and it'd have made no sense going over to a 2nd line.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) Can you post the same for Gload now? CAREER BY POS GP GS INN TC PO A E DP FPCT RF ZR Total as 1B 96 34 424.1 428 405 22 1 33 .998 9.06 .795 Total as LF 30 17 157.2 35 33 1 1 0 .971 1.95 .892 Total as CF 1 1 6.1 2 2 0 0 0 1.000 2.84 1.000 Total as RF 33 20 188.1 53 50 1 2 0 .962 2.44 .803 I left the games/innings here because I think it's pretty hard to judge people, especially outfielders, on 150 innings (that's enough for 1-2 errors)

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) Izturis certainly isn't a power guy needed at 3B. IIRC, the guys from the minors aren't ready to play in the bigs right now. Yet LA would probably be one of the biggest suitors for Gordon and have a lot of prospects to trade [though they may need them to get the other holes filled]. Willie Aybar is at least listed as a 3b, he's one of their rookies, hitting about .274 with an OPS of .806. He was hitting .300 before a couple of bad games, and he's down in AAA since Izturis came back.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) You have provided absolutely no evidence that Mackowiak plays the infield well, and from everything we have to go on, he doesn,t because he hasn't played there for us with the exception of playing third for half a game and looking absolutely terrible. Some said he looked poor there because he hasn't played there in forever. Well, if he isn't taking ground balls there for us it is because we have no intention of playing him there and so he won't play there, but in the OF instead. Fine. Here's your evidence. Rob M.'s career fielding numbers: CAREER BY POS A E DP FPCT RF ZR Total as 1B 1 0 4 1.000 9.87 1.000 Total as 2B 133 8 23 .966 5.19 .856 Total as 3B 292 18 39 .956 2.98 .783 Total as LF 3 0 0 1.000 1.90 .871 Total as CF 5 4 1 .985 2.26 .809 Total as RF 16 6 8 .980 1.97 .841 For comparison at 3rd base: Joe Crede Total as 3B 1054 53 115 .965 2.65 .774 At 3rd base career, Mack has a fielding percentage barely below Crede's. He has higher Range Factor and Zone Rating numbers, if people believe those actually mean anything. At 2nd base, Mack's committed more errors than most everyday 2nd basemen, but his RF and ZR are again respectable.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) The Royals are 15-9 in their last 24 games. So they are playing better baseball of late. Let's hope they help us out a little. K.C. Just activated Mike MacDougal off of the 60 day DL.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) I was thinking which teams would be looking at Gordon [besides the Yanks]. LA would need him the most. But they also have holes at 3b, their rotation and 2b [isn't Kent hurt?]. The yanks might be next. But they need a bat, and another SP. The sox ony real need is the bullpen. Kent has a strained left Oblique, but according to the LAT was expected to be back in the lineup today. Mueller is out for the season in LA, but currently they're running with Izturis at 3rd. They also have some of their young guys capable of playing there.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) i suck at life That's what Javy was saying at the end of that 2nd inning.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Don't say I am wrong just because you cannot justify your argument with anything more than "Rob is great, and he can play 3B horribly, but Gload cannot at all!" Or "Damaso didn't get along with Ozzie, so he sucks and has no value!" Did anyone actually even make that argument?

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) Congratulations, Cincinatti. You're not going to win the division. Fixed. You were one letter off.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) Obviously, we'd have to get there first. That wasn't really my point. Actually my point was sort of what Johnny Damon did to Vazquez last time they met up in the playoffs.
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) As for Damaso Marte being garbage, he has a 3.17 ERA. Clearly you don't mean to suggest that he has been the recipient of an otherworldly number of good relievers cleaning up for him for the past FIVE YEARS, including this year, in which he has a 2.97 ERA. Idiot or not, Damaso has a damn good arm. Damaso Marte was either one of the best or the best left handed reliever I saw in baseball for 2003. He started downhill in 04, and in 05, through some combination of injuries and being a head case, was just bad for much of the season. He has a damn good arm, if it's healthy and if he doesn't get rattled. But he hasn't been a dominant reliever for a couple years.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) So that way he can f*** us up in the World Series. I like it :headshake Johnny Damon says hi.

HBO begins production on yet another show about Cubs
Balta1701 replied to Hangar18's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) I'll bet he doesnt either. But he still got an email from me. The fact that you were interested enough to send an email is all that they want. There is no such thing as bad publicity when your goal is ratings. -
If they were willing to consider Milledge, I'd do it in a second. But they've also been unwilling to consider Milledge for Zito.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) Well, that's up to page 2, now for some reason I can't access the page. But I think that's a pretty fair sampling. Wow, a season with Tony Womack and Royce Clayton, with Rich Aurilia on the bench the whole time. Have they cornered the market on ancient journeyman infielders or what? 'I wonder if SD could be persuaded to take Adam Dunn for Eric Young...' Maybe they're trying to attract Dusty Baker to manage them. Give that man 7 second baseman and he'll be unstoppable.

This says more about the status of the Yankee pitching staff than anything else.

Bets on how long until this is named the "Mariano Rivera" award? Heckuva job Bobby. Keep it up big man.

If the Reds have something else long-term at Shortstop, this trade might make sense for them a few years down the road, as they could wind up with some decent bullpen talent out of it, and that's one area they've been sorely lacking, as we found out. But it's hard for me to see how this won't hurt them this year, especially with the loss of Kearns.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) How's that situation with the missles in Korea being handled? It's being dealt with in the same manner as people betting on horse races online. (Horse racing having better lobbyists than general internet gambling. Including, until a few months ago, some dude named Jack.)
