Marcus Stroman accepts qualifying offer from Mets
Balta1701 replied to TomPickle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
IMO - he did. No way February rolls around and he has $19 million this year sitting on the table for himself. -
He can't pardon himself from state crimes. He can probably do so for the obstruction, but can you imagine what the headlines will be the next day? He'll be daring New York to go after him, and conveniently I can now write the state's attorney general as a voting constituent
-
Smartest thing he could do. Everything is flashing that this offseason is going to be a mess. Take the guaranteed money and try again next year.
-
Now we agree, this isn't just about his debt.
-
So why is he replacing defense and security officials with party loyalists, in positions where their terms will expire in 70 days?

La Russa arrested for DUI in Feb; charged day before hire
Balta1701 replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That post wasn't trying to excuse DUIs, he's taking an issue with the math which is fair. There are others who you can target with that comment and you'd be correct. Start with Nightengale. -
La Russa arrested for DUI in Feb; charged day before hire
Balta1701 replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Agreed, but given the blood test you've got 2 options - either his blood test came in at 0.095 2 hours later when his blood was tested because he was really at 0.011 when he was pulled over and the breathalyzer was that low, or he had just had the last one right before leaving and it was still being processed by his stomach when pulled over. Neither one of those makes him look particularly good. -
La Russa arrested for DUI in Feb; charged day before hire
Balta1701 replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I mean, people can clean up. LaRummy had one in 2007, it was bad, he was so drunk he fell asleep while driving. If he had completed his punishment, gone to treatment, and figured out how to control that part of his life, we could be proud of him. It might even be the kind of behind-the-scenes thing that might make you consider him highly in an interview setting. If that was all he had, then there's no reason to condemn him for that this much later. This second one makes it clear that it's a long-term problem for him, he hasn't cleaned up anything. -
They could have had Hand for 1/$10 and chose not to along with the entire rest of the league, and instead they’re going to bid 2/$16?
-
When he’s also cleaning out the defense department and his administration is denying the Biden Administration their legal right to begin spending transition dollars, this is also hurting the country and possibly setting the stage for something far worse.

Bumping this again for the morning - Posts that call for violence or injury towards specific people, even if hyperbolic, are something we aren’t ok with. -

Take a look at the bolded in the post I replied to. You leaped way beyond declaring him guilty being a bad thing to include people who are writing advertisers. That is why I’m here. I don’t care what the courts say in the end and I don’t have to. I can judge things for myself. Tony LaRussa has every right to a fair hearing by the legal system. He should receive that, and he should be treated as others are treated (note right here that he already received privileged treatment compared to a person of a different skin color being aggressive with a cop). REGARDLESS of the legal process, I have every right to write their advertisers based on the currently available information. He has zero right to this position and that is the case regardless of any legal process. I can judge where I spend my money based on the character of the individuals and I can make that clear to companies that have agreements with them. It is the White Sox, the team that hired him, that should worry about the unintended consequences of anger amongst their customers, and that is not mob rule. That is a $2 billion business that relies on public interest and public money, meaning they need to care about public opinion. If Tony LaRussa needs a job to get back on his feet, and he’s friends with the owner, he can be given a job in the mailroom to rebuild his reputation and earn better references. I am totally ok with that and encourage the White Sox to offer such programs. But that is very different from him being given a very public endorsement and job out in front of a business asking for my attention and money next year. -

Frankly, unless LaRummy weighs 120 lb, those numbers are garbage. Plug a full bottle of wine (4 glasses) into a BAC calculator, make it over 2 hours (dinner with friends) and you get 0.06-0.07 for a guy my weight. He had probably 6 glasses if it was wine, one of which was right before he hit the road, so that his BAC went up between the breath and blood tests. Fewer if it was strong or fortified. 2 really strong mixed drinks in 30 minutes might do that. -

Bullshit. I didn’t sign away my rights at any point. The White Sox and their sponsors have no right to my money and I have not given up my right to free speech. Boycotts are the exact opposite of what you are describing. I am not asking for any government action, by definition that is not mob rule. I am using my rights to voice my opinion and to decide where to spend my money based on their actions and I refuse to give them up. -

I am not a court of law. I can apply my own judgments to a guy. I can decide that these should be diversionary paths that most DUI single time offenders have a right to not have their lives destroyed because a lot of people make that mistake and destroying the lives of a lot of people is a bad thing for everyone. I can make peace with Tony LaRussa having the ability to take one of those diversionary paths. I also can decide that Tony LaRussa is a piece of ? who has done this more than once, demanded that the cop let him go because he’s legit while lying to the cop about how much he had, and does not deserve a very public role and a million dollar salary with a company I have long supported. I can also let other things he’s done, like criticize people for not being sincere and outline why that’s the most important thing to him, when he lied to everyone’s face and said this would never happen again, influence my opinion of this asshole, when aside from previous charges a court should not do that. And if I feel completely let down by this company, I have every right to choose not to do business with them or their sponsors, and I have every right to make sure they and their sponsors know that. It is not dangerous, it is fully my right. And if Tony LaRussa wants to complete a short jail sentence, lose his license for a year, and ride public transit in Phoenix to a job as a waiter for $2.15 an hour plus tips, he should have every right to do so. I would even encourage it. No one has a right to a public million dollar job. Being immune from public criticism is not in the constitution. -
Can Hahn Make Moves Without TLR Approval?
Balta1701 replied to YourWhatHurts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think Hahn will run like 95% of stuff when LaRussa doesn’t intervene, but when he crashes his car through the office wall and stumbles out saying you have to do trade x or sign player y, assistant GM Hahn will have to go along with it because the owner will listen to him and not Hahn. LaRussa will have the final personnel decision because ownership has supported him over the GM. -
New Manager. Who could sox target at this point?
Balta1701 replied to KrankinSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think Bochy is one guy where this situation has been toxic enough and disrespectful enough that he wouldn’t take the job unless he was made the highest paid coach in the league. And the guy who hired his drinking buddy won’t do that. Every other name you mention...we should have interviewed them back in October. But they will still almost certainly have interest. I do wonder if any of them will have conditions about taking the job because of this ? show. -

Ok folks, we have a longstanding rule against wishing direct harm to specific people here and this thread is crossing that line. Consider this a warning in thread, I'm going to vanish a couple of posts that cross said line. -

If LaRussa disagrees, no. Probably can sneak things past him if he hasn’t already disagreed, but only a few times before he gets angry about it.
