Getting some exposure to the playoffs is exactly what I want for as many of the youngsters as possible out of this year. If we want to come back and be a force in the playoffs in the next couple years, experience this year will be an important step on the way. I said this in another post last night, but think about this - the teams that have conducted major rebuilds - every one of them has had some playoff experience/disappointment before they won their title. The Cubs, the Astros, the Royals - the last team to win the world series after a multi-year gap in playoff appearances to retool a team was the 2010 Giants. It's tough to go through the playoffs with a team that hasn't been there before these days.

This is a great reason why Cease should get a chance to start in the playoffs.

Even if they trade for Lynn, in the playoffs do we have that much more confidence in him? He's an upgrade, but either way you're going to hope the guy can give you 5 innings and be ready with the short hook if the guy gets in trouble.
-
If anyone actually tested positive the game would be off. The Engel situation of "on the IL until we're sure they're clear after possible exposure" hasn't yet involved canceling games, but MLB is now quite clear that the moment a confirmed case pops up, even among staff, the doors close and people isolate for a couple days.

Padres Acquire Clevinger per Multiple Reports
Balta1701 replied to bmags's topic in The Diamond Club
Weirdly, whether or not they could move Lindor might play into that. If they don't think anyone is going to pay the price to trade for Lindor this offseason (and with the mess that is MLB's finances, who wants to trade for him and extend him?), then MLB pieces to help this year and next year are their best shots. -
Padres Acquire Clevinger per Multiple Reports

They do get Clevinger for 2 full additional seasons though. Proven starter for 2.5 seasons? You pay a lot for those years of control, we should know that because we demonstrated it. -
Put yourself in the Brewers shoes. What would it take to give up both those guys? Are the White Sox putting Robert on the table? Because now they have my attention and are clearly serious.

“Rick Hahn Special”.

I have no urge to write off next year, I just think it will be a rough season for Kopech. Talk to me about our needs next July and we will see.
-
I’d do that too and the problem is the Brewers shouldn’t. If another team wants to be dumb, ok I can accept that.

Normal season next year, 100 win pace and we need bullpen help? Fine, deal a top 50 prospect for it. Not in this crapshoot. The last few teams to do full rebuilds - each of them needed some playoff experience before they won it. Astros lost in 15, Cubs lost in 15, Royals lost in 14, Nats lost for a full decade. Be happy with playoff experience this year and don’t sell all out for this year given the huge risks. Talk to me next year healthy and on a 100 win pace.
-
Is Josh Hader the finishing piece for this team? We are playoff experienced, on pace for 100 wins, no excuses if we lose in the first round?
-
Kopeck is probably going to have a rough 2021, but if we work through that then in 2022 we will be sitting there with a rotation zero teams want any part of in the postseason.
-
None of the guys proposed for Lynn are a "Nice value". They're "high prices you pay because your team is ready to win a title this year and willing to sacrifice next year to do so". There are guys from our system I'd give up for Lynn, but it would be stupid of the Rangers to give him up for the guys I'd trade, and they should be able to get better value elsewhere from a team that isn't looking at a long run over the next 5 years.

I would bet that there's some part of the "face 3 batters" rule that says you can't give an intentional walk to the 3rd batter. -

Less of a fan of wild lefty against one of the Royals that can beat us. -

The rule must be "3 batters" not 3 outs in this situation. -

Does the out on the basepaths count towards the 3 that Fry needs to face? -

The next 2 hitters are lefties, so at least you have some ability to defend this call. If you're playing for the 11th inning, use the lefty when 2 lefties are up. -

Dude, you literally insisted 11 minutes ago that there must have been "a reason for" why Heuer couldn't pitch today. You don't get to fall back on that if he comes out next inning. -

No, the problem is you are insisting that a guy with an ERA of 6 and a guy with an ERA of 2.70 are guys that it is tough to decide between in a 1 run game.
