When I was a youngin, the Mavericks went a decade without a playoff appearance. In 97-98, they averaged only 13k in their stadium, 26th in the NBA. They're one of the most valuable franchises because ownership said that making the playoffs regularly and putting good teams on the court was a way to get fans into the stadium, get fans tuning in, and take advantage of a large media market. Cuban specifically bought that team because the team was undervalued after a decade of poor performance.

If Ozzie Guillen had made the playoffs 4 times in 5 years after winning a title in 2005 he'd still be managing the White Sox today.

I wouldn't draw that conclusion based on this messed up season. He's had 5 starts with a very limited "Spring training" and we have no idea what kind of work he was able to do for months. If he was doing this in a normal year, we'd be saying "it's only April, he just needs to get into a groove for a month and he'll look fine" or "his numbers are still worse than they should be because of that one opening bad game, give it time". About the only conclusions worth drawing from this season are ones we probably thought beforehand. Things like "Juan Soto is pretty darn good" or "Carlos Rodon gets hurt a lot", those you can probably convince me of.
