  1. And I guarantee you the governors and state reps are pushing hard for their teams to paly to show that everything's fine and ok.
  2. I think it's 50/50 that they will. If they dig in, Big 12 and ACC might go along with it. A lot is going to come down, IMO, to what the university legal offices are saying. If they think they can get away with a couple dead students and have it not destroy the program (Maryland), then they'll push for it now.
  3. It...isn't safe. None of this is. We need to re-shut-down and get this under control where we can manage outbreaks, but no one will do that any more, we blew our shot in the spring. Some people needed haircuts and so we have this end result.
  4. Go watch Robert, he'll make us feel better pretty soon.
  5. FWIW, I think this is entirely a coincidence of government policy and entry points. 1. It Entered in New York, and reached Chicago and the Northeast rapidly via travel routes. New York's cases started in Early February. 2. There were limited entries in the South, tracing to New York, but those were happening right around March 10 as New York's cases were exploding, 4-6 weeks after spreading began. Then Rudy Gobert happened, and so much travel and business was shut down that explosions of cases were prevented. 3. The South, Arizona, some of the Red counties in California re-opened everything, blocked all restrictions, and the virus exploded 4-6 weeks later exactly on queue.
  6. Unless we somehow got him hurt, I don't think there was anything stopping this kid.
  7. Dallas Keuchel has been doing this long enough to know what's going to happen if he makes a public statement like that, he doesn't make it accidentally and then say "oops now the media is overreacting how could I have ever seen that coming".
  8. The first item on the Players list that they shared is universal, mandated health and safety procedures. If the athletes also have to go to classes, there’s no physically possible way to keep them away from exposure. It’d be like the Cardinals going to 12 casinos a week. You can want to do something al you want, the players can want something to happen all they want, but a lack of responsibility by people and governments have created a situation where it doesn’t currently work.
  9. If the nation as a whole was smart about this we could genuinely do it in the spring. But alas...
  10. If you're counting opt-outs, I think there's several teams in that boat right now, and that's while ignoring the Cardinals and Marlins. The Astros are missing Verlander, Urquidy, and almost their whole bullpen. The Mets are missing Wacha, Syndegaard, Stroman just opted out, and Degrom has a finger issue, Cano, Lowrie, Nunez, Marisnick, and an opt-out by Cespedes. We play this game every year, this year we just also have 2 teams that lost 50% of their players at once.
  11. If everything else is equal it's riskier inside than out that's absolutely for certain, because the virus lingers there for longer, the air is less turbulent, and it is sheltered from UV radiation and things like that. That's why nearly all super-spreader events are inside. The trick is that everything isn't always equal. If the population density outside is 3x what it is inside, then there's more likely to be an infected person nearby. If people inside are wearing masks more consistently than a group outside, then there's less likely to be substantial virus in the air. So, there are places where outside could be an issue. If you're in a crowd of 60,000 college football fans, you're probably going to get some spreading. Each infected individual may not infect 100, but it won't be 0.
  12. How many other teams are dealing with a similar level of injuries, opt-outs, and infected individuals? It doesn't seem to me like we get to complain about missing an unusual number of people and use that as an excuse we have to "factor in" if every team has similar numbers of people out.
  13. School shut down for 2 days to allow tracing and testing due to outbreak. Kid should get a medal for trying to save them.
  14. When is the last time the White Sox had a sunday night game? Serious q.
  15. This remains a choice. We will waste trillions of dollars and suffer a decade long recession, costing tens of trillions of GDP...because doing what everyone else on the planet did was too hard.
  16. What fraction of the players who arrived in July wind up on the IL before this is over? Anyone want to go for 50%, league wide?
  17. by the way, everyone here has noticed that nationwide the number of performed PCR tests dropped by about 10% compared to last week right?
  18. Additional positive tests after a full week of monitoring these people.
