  1. Let the offseason play out. God knows who might get surprisingly non-tendered or put on the trade market if teams are trying to make major payroll cuts.
  2. Just so someone says this...yeah going "1 game and done" in the wild card is tough for the teams, but gosh those were some of the best games of the year to watch.
  3. He will absolutely get a shot somewhere next year, he'll get a contract that gives him an invite to spring training, maybe a major league contract but maybe not. But he won't get anywhere near the $6 million he'd get if the White Sox offered him arbitration.
  4. 7 games before the trade deadline this year. 0 against playoff teams from last year and the Detroit game is their only divisional game up to that point. Their record should be strong at that point...if it isn't....that's a good decision point.
  5. After all the revenue losses this year, nothing will be described as “easy” when it comes to next years payroll. You might be right on or too high by $50 million.
  6. This wouldn’t be a bad thing. Many of the teams to do recent rebuilds had to lose a playoff series before they came back and won it all. Cubs, Astros, Royals. So if we don’t win it all this year we still come out more experienced at playoff atmospheres and maybe more motivated next year.

    2020 Catch-All

If anyone wants to chat with a planetary scientist about Venus’s atmosphere you’ve got one here.
  8. The White Sox clearly could use additional veteran relief help next year so there's no reason Colome can't be an option, he fits a lot of this team's needs and they're already familiar with him. He's one of the better relievers on the market this offseason.

    2020 Catch-All

One hour from now there is going to be a press conference on astrobiology on Venus suggesting they’ve found a chemical that may be a signature of life in its atmosphere. Tune in here, 10 central time.
  10. The vaccine trials have gotten billions in public money already and they’ve got an increasingly skeptical public atmosphere. One of the easiest things they could do to assuage those doubts is to be open on the processes they’re using and how their public statements are justified, for example Pfizer in one case wants to add additional candidates to their vaccine trial but also has a ceo saying this will be done in October, both of those can’t be true. Letting outside scientists review should be a key step, so it’s good that the press is asking why none of that is happening. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/13/science/coronavirus-vaccine-trials.html?referringSource=articleShare
  11. If Rick Hahn didn't get fired after 2016, it's hard to imagine the failure that would get him fired. He could sabotage the american response to a pandemic, kill hundreds of thousands, and in the process cost his employer tens of millions of dollars and that'd still be less of a reason to fire him than he already gave this org. Rick Hahn will not be fired because his teams didn't go far enough in the playoffs, and if his teams make a world series at some point, his mind will be implanted into an android and used as the GM before he's fired.
  12. If the US continues choosing the worst possible path every time, and a tiny bit of bad luck happens, a $45 million paycut could be the average across the big leagues. If the first vaccine candidates aren't perfect, then we've already screwed things up so much as a country that fan limits will be guaranteed in that case. At least with Mazara and Rodon, be cheap. We have to make decisions on them way too early, they have to be offered arbitration by December and that money will be more valuable later in the offseason. If it goes into pay cuts, it goes into pay cuts. If fans become possible next year because we finally get lucky, then spending that money in February will be smarter than spending it in December.
  13. He'd get paid something like $6 million if he was offered arbitration. He'd get what, an invitation to spring training and maybe a deal where he's released if he doesn't make the major league team if he was a free agent? If the White Sox have $6 million to spend, which isn't guaranteed at all - there will be better ways to spend that money.
  14. This needs to be a TD drive or there needs to be a QB change.
  15. See, I was expecting some version of this as I deserve it. Jose sure looked like he was slowing down to me to the eyes and in his numbers, and now I'm reevaluating how I think about veteran hitters now that we're seeing guys like Abreu and Cruz do things with the bats that we haven't really seen since the steroid era. But "See fWAR doesn't work well!!" is just about the worst version of this take I could possibly imagine. He hasn't suddenly turned himself into a good fielder or baserunner, he's found the best hitter in the world magic that he had when he first came to the states! Justin Smoak didn't become a bad player because of defense or baserunning, he fell apart with the bats! At least criticize me in a way that makes some sense. Come on.
  16. Everyone thinking he will be back for the playoffs remembers how his short term shoulder problem in spring training cost him half of the 2018 season and then still lingered into 2019 where it probably contributed to blowing out his elbow, right?

  18. Thank goodness we didn't trade him.
  19. After the mess that is this year I’d also like to give the guy some time against minor leaguers in real game action and the call him up when earned. What level? Decide based on Spring Training. I would really hope they don’t spend additional money at the DH position In the off-season. Other things way more important.
  20. Did you just implicitly question whether or not Roger Bossard’s field will drain on time?
  21. They had to ban all their students from leaving their rooms for anything nonessential. Lockdowns work! https://www.foxnews.com/us/university-of-illinois-lockdown-coronavirus
