Bummer and Rodon return, Detwiler and Not going to Cishek anymore DFAd
Balta1701 replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Honestly, I'm still not sure about that, but the good news is there's basically no chance I have to worry about seeing Rodon in a White Sox uniform next year so I'll just be happy about that. -
With good reason! The Twins and Indians looked like and still look like strong competitors.

I know he hasn't exactly been healthy over this time period, but starting in April 2019 his average fastball dropped below league average and it dropped further during his brief outings this year. If that's all injury, then it's a little weird they were even pitching him. -
Well yeah, if it's 1st and 2nd and 0 outs in the middle innings and you have the guy sacrifice, that would deserve a meltdown.

Considering how many more times they should have used Detwiler this season, there should have been ample opportunity to see if it could be more sustainable. But alas, for some reason he's the one guy RR won't give innings to even when he should be in. -
I believe Chris Sale once had to murder kenny williams in order to be allowed to go back to starting.

Coming into the season? I think most of us expected to make the playoffs...once they were expanded. Had it only been 4 teams per league I think a lot of people would have said we're a step away from that.

Detwiler has been pitching about once a week for whatever reason, despite generally acceptable performances for most of the year (save his last outing). If all RR does is actually pitch Rodon as opposed to leaving Detwiler out there in the pen, it's better than nothing. -
As I stated at the time, this one is false. I did not argue the Encarnacion one was a bad signing, because even if there were other guys we could have given the playing time to, all it cost was money over 1 year. The thought process on Mazara - giving up guys we have control over for multiple years in exchange for low ceiling guys (even if he performs well he gets more expensive next year then goes to free agency) was and continues to be a bad thought process, and his performance this season just illustrates the downside risk even more. The only thing keeping it from looking really bad is that the player we gave up for him currently isn't off having success, but do that a few times and it will backfire on you badly as we've seen many times with this franchise.

The Moderna one is 135 pages, here's a summary that includes the link. https://www.livescience.com/moderna-vaccine-trial-protocol.html

The releases last week were detailed and exactly what people wanted to see from them. They did not come from every company though.

I thought his work this year in OKC was great. I was sort of hoping for some new blood in coaching and tbh it would be nice to see some diversity in the Bulls coaching hires, but yeah I'd say this is a great hire. -
9/22 - White Sox @ Cleveland: Lopez vs Quantrill

This is not the worst time. That would be 2 weeks from now. -
Let's see what sort of data is released. You can pull this off this quickly in a crisis situation, and 3-4 months after the widespread trials begin is enough to know how the risks of side-effects compare to the huge risk of long-term damage from this thing. If they put one out in October and refuse to release information on what was done or what the results were, lots of obvious red flags. It took the NYT publishing a big "Hey why aren't they releasing any information" article last week for a couple of the vaccine candidates to suddenly do big data dumps of their procedures, but not all have done so yet.

After the season he just had in OKC...I did like the idea of an assistant coach getting their first shot, but I certainly can't complain. -
I expect that baseball could manage a full season but that many teams will be facing attendance restrictions at least to start the year. Some teams may still be empty. States like Texas, Georgia, and Florida will probably have no limits, because they continue trying hard to make sure people do get sick and die. Given that, even in optimistic situations the US won't have the outbreak under control early next year, and even if an effective vaccine is available it won't be distributed widely enough to allow fans safely, even in the ballparks where the government says its ok. MLB will need to use some sort of contact tracing and quarantine rules for places that do, so that they can cover their own tails. Hopefully, vaccine distribution goes up during the year and we start getting past this. Could the owners say they're not willing to take losses and demand paycuts/fewer games, such that the season doesn't begin on time? Maybe.

As of right now their closer is a free agent this offseason. There is talent in that bullpen but they absolutely need a veteran presence out there whether it is Colome or not. If funds are limited, in this league, where there might be 4 elimination games in the playoffs from now on...gimme bullpen help first.

injury may also have just been caused by running unshoed on pavement. I sure hope that horse isn’t permanently hurt.

For a team whose owner is complaining about losing $100m this year? Sign Quintana, bring Kopech, Crochet, Stiever, Lopez up as necessary. Gio, Keuchel, Dunning, Q, and best performing of those 4. We have depth, use it?

Early this morning, the CDC published guidelines saying that it is confirmed COVID-19 can travel by aerosol transmission and it is possible to catch it while more than 6 feet away. A whole bunch of people said "took too long" 6 hours later the CDC pulled those guidelines. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/cdc-abruptly-yanks-long-awaited-guidance-that-covid-spreads-via-air

I wouldn’t disagree! Hell if we get the Indians, imagine a 3 game series where game 1 is started by Bieber. That’s going to be a complete crapshoot. If we don’t win this year...enjoy the ride, the players take the experience, and we come back with a hopefully slightly less nightmarish world tomorrow.

It’s a 16 team playoff and we have a 50% chance of winning the title? Omg yay!!!!

Tim Anderson is trending on twitter for “tell him (Bauer) to put that on his YouTube channel” on the broadcast after his HR to center.
-
That is officially the most unlikely thing to happen all season.

At this point, it is time to risk exposing these guys, as it’s time to see if they can provide even modest upgrades come playoff time.
