  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) Ya, I'm actually all for this depending on the rate of course. Obviously if you get blown away by a trade offer you make a deal but as a ton of others have already said, it sure seems like Jose is worth more to the Sox than anyone else. Someone said 4/$70-ish in a thread a week or two ago and I'd be totally ok with that. That's a raise over the next 2 years and cost certainty for both sides.
  2. If they're going to extend him they should do it now - pay more in the next 2 years and in return have to pay for fewer years at the end of his career.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) My god his tax plan, wow. Looks like households under 50k are going to be paying quite a bit more. They haven't even figured that part out yet. It's the same 1 page "plan" they could have put out and probably did put out at the convention last year. They literally have made zero of the hard choices of who exactly will be paying more. Any projection of who is paying more right now is a joke. There's less detail in this than in Bernie Sanders's universal Health Care proposals while a candidate, and they've had nearly a year to turn this into policy. One of two things will happen. They will either give up on any of the pay-fors because those are politically difficult and just remember that Republicans only care about the deficit when Democrats are in charge and just cut the top level individual and corporate tax rates... Or Donald Trump will say something as racist as usual for him and his defenders will come out cheering and we'll forget about this, a-la infrastructure week. Why can't someone pay me to write claptrap like this? 2 hours of work, tops.
  4. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 09:03 PM) It would take quite a bit more than one of those guys to get Conforto Right now yes. If one of them turns into a top 20 guy next year, which both have the talent to do? And then we throw in a top 50 pitcher because we have several more of those from the load of talent we've piled up? That's the kind of move we can legitimately be thinking about next offseason if we get a couple successful pieces
  5. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:34 PM) To clarify - I'm hopeful that those 3 are the outfield, but realistic me is saying none of stick in CF and we get 2 legit corners out of them. Needing to pay big bucks for a corner OF means only 1 of them panned out Honestly, if Rick Hahn thinks our window to compete starts in 2019, it might darn well make sense to move one of those guys for a Michael Conforto type, and that would be a better move long-term than signing Avi for comparable money.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:11 PM) Those games will be FAR more watchable than anything last season. Throw in one more injury to a GS player and this could even be a watchable season. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:43 PM) Well, and this isn't aimed at you, but it seems to me fans can't make up their mind. We complained all year about how boring last year was because you knew it was going to be Cleveland/Golden State, and now we've got teams, particularly in the west, being pro-active to compete and fans still complain. The Rockets add Paul? Oh my god - how will Paul/Harden work? Wolves add Butler? Oh my god - will he stunt the growth of Wiggins and Towns? And I've already seen loads of people question how Carmelo will fit with Westbrook and George. It's like what do people want here? You want more competition? You need to load up on all-stars in today's game. Let the coaches, etc, figure out the rest. Literally, the post I said before that was agreeing with you. Then I specifically said "Devil's Advocate", to see if people could present any coherent argument for why these players were a particularly good fit rather than a bad fit so that I could see how to stack this team up against Houston and GS and SAN. So far you're just coming across as pissed about anyone daring to ask.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:32 PM) Again, if you believe the reports, George recruited Carmelo. Why would he do that if he wanted to "score as much as humanly possible?" Why would Carmelo waive his NTC to go to a team with the reigning MVP and another all-star if he didn't want to adjust his game to win? I think you're overthinking things here. Like I said, Devil's advocate. Was trying to see if someone would give something I haven't thought of yet.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:21 PM) Honestly, I don't think there will be any problem at all. Adjustments? Sure. But when the three teams, reportedly, that you were willing to waive your NTC for feature LeBron, Love, IT, Harden, Paul, Westbrook and George, that shows me that you're willing to put personal s*** aside and finally win something in your career. Devil's Advocate. Well, Love hasn't exactly lit the world on fire in Cleveland. Is that where we think one of these 3 guys stats will go? George is playing for a contract too, so he's going to want to score as much as humanly possible.
  9. Additional post: strategery. Anyone want to speculate on how well Melo and Westbrook will work together?
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:10 PM) Absolutely. I was more or less talking about the West. I want Golden State to at least look stoppable even if they aren't. Those games will be FAR more watchable than anything last season. Throw in one more injury to a GS player and this could even be a watchable season.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 05:58 PM) Avi will cost us a ton of money but also corner outfielders are cheap If we're going to spend that money and it winds up being on a corner OF there will be equal or comparable options at the appropriate time. I'll stand by that one.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 05:28 PM) Is there anything that comes close to this train wreck of a Presidency? Maybe some random banana republic? The dreams of every Republican since 2001. How do you think this happened? The Republican Voters want "those people" to know their place. Nothing fired up their base more than that.
  13. QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) Again, for the 100th time....these two ideas totally contradict themselves. People only want to move Avi for value, but in most cases, they freely admit the cost for corner OF's seem to be at an all-time low. You can't have it both ways. If you want to move Avi for WHATEVER you can get because of reason XYZ, I may be able to get behind that. What I can't get behind is when I see "Move him if you can really get someone to blow you away, it's not like it will be tough to replace him, OF's on the open market are so cheap to acquire.." I don't think I ever said that you need to get someone to blow you away, I said something about "Fair value" for him. I'm not expecting to get blown away by the return for him. I'm hoping we can get someone with a decent chance of being useful in a few years. I'd take that for Garcia. If we wanted to keep him while competitive it will cost us a ton of money, and if we're going to spend that money there will be plenty of options to take it. We don't need whatever Garcia is going to produce next year or likely in 2019, and another team could use that.
  14. First and foremost, I don't think Rick would be publicly speculating on moving him if he didn't think the offers were close to his asking price for that player, so I think Avi probably is movable for a fair return. With that in mind, I would say move him. We have the nightmare of all pitchers coming up next year to take over RF. With that and all the other corner OF types in our organization who could be decent, move him, take the return, add a tiny bit more to a loaded system, and play guys like Cordell and Delmonico in the first half of the season until that thing, whatever it is, takes over RF around mid season. If all our other OF types bust...it isn't that expensive to pick up corner OFs who can play defense and hit 7th or 8th. Look how little teams had to pay this year for Martinez and Cabreroid.
  15. I like it. He gets into that 125K range over 600 PAs like Kris Bryant has done, he will be dominating the strike zone in and out and that's a great way to get him up 5 times a game. He doesn't belong there when he's on a 200K a year pace.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) Eloy is so much better than even Bregman it isn't even funny... and we never had a chance at Bregman. We kind of owe them a debt of gratitude. Well, Bregman will be a better defender at a position of value also, so that will make it a closer match, but yeah I think I'll take the monster devouring pitchers souls that we wound up with.
  17. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) Melo to Thunder, Kanter and McDermott to Knicks. I guess this deal makes sense for both sides. Knicks get rid of the problem, Thunder get a 3rd big name and keep him away from other teams.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 11:54 AM) Countless NBA and NFL players have been calling him out this morning. Love it He doesn't care, they don't count. They're not white.
  19. As a rookie too young for the bigs who struggled right when he came up and still isn't hitting well from the right side, Moncada will cross 200 PAs today. If he did exactly this for 600 PAs, his counting numbers would be: 120 hits, 66 RBI, 24 HR, 18 2b, 75 BB, 198 Ks. Would you take that from a 22 year old 2nd baseman? I would bet I would.
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 03:09 PM) Maybe I'm missing something here, but where does he say to loot and conduct violent actions in there? Greg said that all he wants is Peace. Dr. King literally says that the White Moderate who just wants peace is the greatest obstacle to justice. He basically calls out exactly what Greg said to the letter. The White Moderate fails to recognize that it is not the ones protesting who are creating the tension, they are exposing tensions that have been hidden from view and that exposing and rectifying these ills is the only way to bring justice. Furthermore, he then writes that if the White Moderate does not actively help seek justice, and turns their backs in favor of Peace (as Greg demands) the end result will be far greater violence. He finishes the letter talking about how the Church had failed to stand up to support justice and that had left him truly disappointed in the white church.
  21. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 01:07 PM) I did not know the hill and flag pole were removed. I guess I need to watch more Astros baseball. $20 million renovation last offseason. The H out there was kinda neat. It still has the vertical wall where a ball on the left side is a double and a ball on the right side is a HR - that cost us a HR in the 05 world series game 3, but at least now there's replay.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 01:07 PM) All I want is peace for all no matter if u believe it or not. I'm not even bothering with the rest of the text since you didn't read it and there's 5 paragraphs by Dr. King disagreeing with what you just said word for word. READ HIS WORDS. RIGHT HERE. READ THIS. HE ADDRESSES YOU DIRECTLY. IT COULD START WITH THE WORD "GREG".
  23. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 12:45 PM) I'd be surprised if he can't maintain his body and skill level into his early 30s, so I'd say more like 7-9 productive seasons. The trick's going to be plate discipline. If he is in his 20s and has quick enough wrists to catch up to any fastball, then he's in good shape. If he keeps trying to swing at everything including stuff out of the zone and relying on athleticism only to keep going, then the moment his arms or wrists or anything slow down, then he will face a cliff. Making the pitcher actually throw him strikes makes that adaptation easier as he won't have to cover a 20 square foot strike zone or whatever it is.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 12:42 PM) I'm not doing a history lesson on Dr. King who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his "nonviolent resistance to racial prejudice in America." How bout this ONE article for research purposes though. https://www.yahoo.com/news/martin-luther-ki...vil-rights.html p.s. What in the hell good are unlawful protests in which people are put in harm's way?? Do you want one of your loved ones to get arrested on a serious felony charge of rioting (life ruined BTW; it's over, might as well either reserve a spot on the food stamp lists) or worse yet, DIE in a disruptive protest? Or get brain damage from a bottle hitting your loved one in the head; or have your loved one not be able to get to the hospital because of hooligans in the streets blocking the way?? That's more than simply"inconveniencing people" as you put it. Dr. King pleaded for PEACE. Peaceful demonstrations! None of this nonsense was in his protest vocabulary. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 12:49 PM) He also didn't advocate looting and violence. JFC. You really haven't read any of his actual writings or speeches have you. You guys are the people this is written about. I encourage you to read the rest.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) I thought the Equifax leak included full name, DOB, address and SSN. Everything wrapped up in a nice package to steal someone's identity and wreck their s*** by taking out loans and credit in their name. That can be a monumental pain in the ass and financially damaging to get cleared up. Yes, and your credit history too. Like, I can go be 2k5 for 6 months with that. I could do everything but show up for his job. I could file his tax return.
