I still like the Yankee deal and think Rutherford on paper is a fair return...but his 2nd half was definitely disappointing, so now we're counting on the White Sox's scouting and development. He's a legit talent but talent doesn't do everything and yeah, if the White Sox were wrong, people can look back and say his numbers at the time of the trade were warning signs. We'll see. Breakout next year and all complaints go away. Continue struggling and people will get an "I told you so".

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) oh jeez okay thanks wow what a boneheaded 100% serious suggestion that was I probably figured that, but frankly, this isn't funny and shouldn't be. I can't directly lecture the guy who hasn't figured out basic common courtesy with people whose relatives have just been killed, but we can be better than that.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) I think we should stop talking about calling the deceased soldiers spouses. Lets be honest, nobody wants him to do that. We pressured him into it, and he f***ed it up completely. It wont get better. He is a moron, he has zero empathy, he offered money because thats all he knows and then he didnt send the money because thats all he knows(and only sent it when it became public). its ridiculous anymore. I wouldnt want him calling my sister in law if my brother was KIA. This falls into the category of "The United States needs, somehow, to have a functioning government" regardless of who is in charge. It's not my business to declare or judge what these folks need to heal and if hearing from the President would help some of them then they should be able to receive that. If we can't get this basic service done - hell just hire someone to bring letters into the office and tell him to sign them, then we do not have a functioning government.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) would be a good chance to ask about the piss tape imo If you have a relative who was just killed in combat and you're just gotten home from a funeral...you're not going to ask about this. No one would.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) Yep this is what BCBS said when we asked about our premium increase of almost 50%. They said that due to the uncertainty of insurance laws that they had to basically price everyone in to the worst possible outcome. Is it what it is. But obviously stings to see your premium go up that much when you have never had a single insurance claim in almost 10 years of having the policy. Can you switch to a "Gold" plan if you're in the private market? The CSR payments only affect the standard silver plan. The cost on a "Gold" plan is higher, but the subsidies are also higher and that can help balance it out. Basically you'd wind up paying somewhat more, the government would wind up paying a lot more, and you'd get better coverage overall?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 07:10 PM) Also the WH says John Kelly hates how his son's death has been politicized. I think they are forgetting who politicized it. If John Kelly wasn't ok with Donald Trump politicizing his death he would have resigned. He's ok with that.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) How about instead of 4 divisions of 8 teams, cutting each division in half to 4 teams creating 4 divisions in both leagues? Let's just take the AL Central as an example - which team belongs elsewhere? Cleveland, Chicago, Minnesota, Detroit, KC? I guess you lose KC to a division with Houston somewhere right? The current setup doesn't seem all that bad in putting most teams in a time zone that makes sense along with other teams in the same zone.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 04:39 PM) It's been pretty quiet of late regarding this issue. Does North Korea care about all the sanctions against them? Or is that no biggie since Jong Un doesn't care about the normal North Korean citizen anyway? I'm expecting Trump to do something historic/stupid any time now. No, they basically don't care.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) I don't think the Dodgers will trade him. More than any other team in the league, they value their depth. Even if he only plays 60 or 80 games, that'll be worth it to them. So we start this proposal with Narvaez to allow them to maintain depth, and then add in something of nonzero but not huge value in addition? Probably have to be something from the lower minors, like a recent 3rd or 4th round pick or something like that?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 02:21 PM) At the end of the day if you ask MLB owners if they are a bigger fan of 30 teams and their current team, or 2/30's of ~$3 billion, I promise you they would also take their share of the billions that new owners are going to be willing to pay to expand MLB. Once the Oakland and Tampa stadium situations get put to bed, expansion is inevitable. If we're talking about the 5-10 year horizon, I don't think expansion sounds like nearly as bad of an idea as it does right now (assuming no major economic shakeups in that time of course, which is a big assumption). Continued population growth in other cities and a 30 year break from the last round of expansion? Both seem reasonable.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) This is a unique offseason. The White Sox did a fantastic job loading up the system. But by all means, it should not stop now. I know we want to see the first wave of young talent develop this year on the main roster: (Gioloto, Lopez, Fulmer, Moncada and yes even Anderson). But that next wave of prospects are not as close to contributing in 2018. Guys like Kopech, Hansen, Dunning, Jimenez and Rutherford are still a few years away. Until they get to that point and begin calling guys up, Hahn needs to what he has with veterans on the main roster. Guys like Avi, Davidson, Sanchez & Delmonico will have another full season proving their worth, but are they apart of the future contending team? Hahn needs to figure out what to do with players like this. Not only that, I would like to add more players like this in 2018 though free agency. The bullpen needs a complete makeover, their is still a gaping hole in CF, the C position can use a veteran and with Rodon being out, there is still room for a SP or 2. Hahn can easily add 7-8 veterans this winter through free agency with the hope of flipping them at the deadline for more prospect depth. Personally, I do not feel that Avi will be apart of the contending team. Hahn has the potential of selling pretty high this winter. He can also bet on Avi having a repeat type performance and possibly get a juicier package at the 2018 trade deadline.... regardless of what he decides to do this winter-- i am VERY interested. This team is headed in the right direction and I cannot wait for the future!! I think you're dramatically underestimating how soon these guys will arrive. Kopech and Jiminez are likely to be up this year, IMO. We should even be thinking about where they are going to play - Kopech taking Shields's spot, avoid signing a big money corner OF unless he's tradeable for exactly that reason. Hansen I wouldn't even be surprised if they wound up approaching September callup thinking with him if he pulls off a full year at AA/AAA - I think he's a surprisingly early 2019 arrival. This is still the White Sox. These guys are going to be pushed upwards aggressively. Jiminez and Kopech may well even deserve it by midseason. With a good first half you might even see guys you aren't thinking about make their debuts.

QUOTE (turnin' two @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) If they go after a good reliable reliever, I would rather see them go after a guy like Kintzler. He would cost less, (though honestly, I have no idea what is market will be) and he could close next season, (Minaya-Jones- Kintzler not too shabby...) and possibly the following, and when the team is really ready to go for it, and they have their rock star closer of the future( Burdi?), Kintzler would be a great guy to have pitching the 7th. Really?
-
Will he be better than any option available after 2018? Because if so there's no reason to pay him for 2018 when we need to be able to spend in 2019. Andrew Miller should be available in 2019 if we're talking this kind of money right?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) The Sox have always taken BPA with their top pick, even when they knew it was going to cost them dearly, as it did with Rodon for example. This doesn't quite sound right to me, especially if we go back a decade (same administration). With those picks they were prioritizing "having guys who could be traded or contribute to the ballclub rapidly" over the best available talent. I also feel like guys in the Mitchell-Hawkins-Anderson years were signed underslot as well, although my memory is fuzzier there so someone please tell me if I'm wrong? I feel like the moment when we could all say "The White Sox took the BPA" literally started with Rodon.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) I think what black or white greg misses is that you can respect Sale on the mound, and disrespect him for everything off of the mound at the same time. Crazy, I know. "Everything" off the mound? Guy seems to do a lot of good work. Grew a lot as a pitcher during the years we had him. Was prepped to play. Just couldn't quite control his temper. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 10:09 AM) Lake County Republicans having a gun raffle for donors: The "2nd Amendment Dinner and Gun Raffle" in northwest suburban Kildeer features an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle for those who pay $2,000 to sponsor the event, raffles for a 12-gauge shotgun and a 9 mm handgun, and other gun-related packages. Dude these happen all the time. They happened last week. Some church in Mississippi? raffled one away like 2 days after Vegas.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) No, we can still talk about how the GOP doesnt care about women, but it turns out high powered men, regardless of political leaning, continue to abuse women with no repercussions. And people of all genders and political persuasions will be ok with covering that up if it helps their careers and didn't happen to someone important enough to them.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) I guess that makes up for not reporting 13 years ago when they knew about other allegations. This will all blow over in 2 weeks, he will get "help" and avoid any punishment. So much faux outrage going on right now, it's sad. Wait, so people shouldn't be outraged?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) With this receiving Corps, I don't even know if Tom Brady would lead us too far. I do think with a very good QB we are a playoff team. Our defense is good, our oline (when / if it gets healhty is good), RB is solid, but the WR / TE position are so weak (hopefully Simms bounces back and shows something with Trubisky in and we see developments from Shaheen) that it is just so darn difficult to move the ball. Defense needs to create turnovers for us to win games (and offense needs to protect the ball, win time of posession, and wear down the other team. They haven't given up a lot of yards, but the bears right now are the 8th worst scoring defense in the NFL. Interestingly, their numbers are within 1 yard of identical to Cleveland. I would also bet that the yards given up has something to do with the inept offense - you don't need to drive 80 yards against the Bears down the stretch when you're up 14 and if the Bears punt from the 10 you don't have to drive 80 yards to put points on the board, but no obvious signs in the stats of this being a "good" defense to me. Low turnovers, giving up a lot of points, opposing teams score on 40% of their drives (7th worst).

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) I have to think that’s gonna be quite a rabbit hole, levying a fine for not standing for the National Anthem sounds like a bell for ACLU I'm not sure the ACLU would be able to do much about this as it's a private organization and they're allowed to set their participation rules. The "pressured into it by the Executive branch" part might make for an interesting lawsuit, I do admit.
