QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) First pitch forecast for tomorrow night: 95 degrees. Updated forecast I just saw was up to 98 degrees, would be hottest first pitch in WS history. Weather service warning also saying this is the highest fire danger for CA in several years.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 06:48 PM) Almost have to let Fulmer try to build on his success from the end of the season don’t you? That’s what I would do at least...feel like giving him a rotation spot could give him some confidence and hopefully keep him in whatever groove he was in for his last 25 innings or so last year. Yes, I fully expect Fulmer to open the season in the rotation regardless of how he does in ST. He's going to be put in "Sink or swim" mode. I still think, especially with likely no Rodon, there will be a rule-5 pick of a starting pitcher also.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) I'd feel it was somewhat possible if we still had Kahnle on team to trade, but to acquire Joc with what we have means dipping into the prospect bin. Do not forget we could have a potential return coming from a Garcia deal also that could make this more palatable.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) Gonna stand up for Cal here...not that small of a school. Maybe you were thinking Wentz? Goff was playing in as silly-simple an offense as ours is last year, but he was at least getting 25ish attempts per game if not more, except the last game where maybe it was partial, hard to tell. D'Oh, yeah, I crossed up Wentz's school and Goff's school.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) Not that every beat writer is correct, but Adam Hoge among others said only one of the 4 sacks taken was a bad sack. I also would disagree that he has looked "really really bad." He's looked average. To me, "really really bad" would be like 2-7 with 2 INT's and a fumble lost. I definitely feel like on many of the sacks I saw he is holding the ball too long, but when your receiving corps is a weak as the Bears', he's not going to have many open, well-positioned targets either. These issues aren't unrelated.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) I'm literally going back to the fact that you really don't want to put guys in "too" soon because they might not be ready to learn and get better quick enough. We'll see...nice that they have gotten those wins but as we get into the second half of the season, if he keeps playing like he did the past couple weeks, people are going to get pretty negative pretty fast. Look at the Browns...rushed Kizer and now he's been benched. What you've got to hope is a Jared Goff like situation here. Goff was completely overmatched in the 7 games he started in 2016, he was legitimately terrible. Like, Trubisky's current passer rating is 19 points ahead of Goff in 2016 terrible. Goff was inexperienced and coming out of a small school so he had never played against that kind of talent. This year, including a few trades and an upgraded roster around him, he's currently 6th in the NFL in Passing Yards, 6th in yards/attempt, 14th in quarterback rating. He's not the best QB in the league, but he's playing like a legit starter on a 5-2, top of the division team. That's where you hope Trubisky can get within a year.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) Depends, if you've watched every chiefs and texans game post watson it's been pretty exciting. Main stuff that hurts is Carr/Mariota have been beat up. Eagles and Rams, two teams that haven't had much national love, have also been pretty fun. Instead NFL has bet a lot early on on staple franchises like Bears/Giants/etc and it hasn't paid off. 2 of the good Chiefs games I have missed because they've been buried on Thursday nights. That Chiefs/Texans game wasn't as close as the score.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) So you see no progress in the Bears defense? Offense sucks and will suck the rest of the season, but since 1979, 7 times an NFL team has completed 4 or less passes in a game. They are 6-1 in those games. Frankly, the Bears offense should have taken a step back from last season. They have switched from an (albeit unreliable) experienced veteran QB to a rookie, and they let their top WR (albeit unreliable) walk as a free agent. It's flat out obvious that their offense was going to take a step backwards in the hopes that it could develop a long term reliable QB and then fill talent positions around him in future drafts to take a larger step forwards in the end. They could have managed the offseason better by signing Kaepernick to a smaller deal than they gave to Glennon and spending the difference on a Pierre Garcon type, feel free to criticize management for that. They will clearly have to find several players at the WR position this offseason, draft and FA.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) The Bears are boring without a doubt, but is it just me, or is the entire NFL getting pretty boring? Most games are pretty one-sided. There has not been a lot of exciting games this season, and Rodgers being out makes that worse.

That's another one that probably belongs in the Democrat thread.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) It was actually 8 years which is the only flaw in the movie. Unless said otherwise, the MCU movies have taken place around the time of their movies release dates besides Captain America: First Avenger, GoTG 2, and this movie. The first Avengers movie would have taken place in 2012. Homecoming is supposed to take a place just after the events of Civil War, which would only be 4 years after the first Avengers movie. Yeah, no one has been able to figure out the timeline for this one. If you add in the supposed ages of everyone based on the "kids crayon drawing of the avengers" and assume a reasonable age for that kid then Homecoming should have taken place sometime around 2019 or 2020. There's some guesses out there that this was done deliberately and it will make sense later, but who knows.

Zack Collins Working on Swing Mechanics @ Instructs
Balta1701 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 08:11 PM) Can't share it, but the gist is that they are trying to calm his hands and get him into a more balanced position before he begins to load his swing, so that the natural tilt move he makes is lessened. Said he trusts the Sox player development guys and Gellinger (the guy who is helping him) has a great reputation throughout the organization. I've met Gellinger, some dude named Paul Konerko credited him for the basics of his swing even before Walker worked with him. I like. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 09:36 PM) Verlander the true definition of big game pitcher....somehow managed to get that fastball back after looking dead in the water 2-3 years ago. But who could the Astros start in Game 5? McCullers has such an iffy injury history and would be on short rest...Peacock? Tough call. Going the Nationals’ route of (over)protecting Strasburg definitely backfired. The papers are saying Morton. I dunno. This is the no matter what happened on Thursday "They should have traded for Q" moment.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 08:16 PM) Verlander in Houston has been like CC in Milwaukee. Nice callback.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 07:27 PM) For us it was funny because we got to laugh at Cubs fans, but overall it was absolutely dreadful for the sport and seeing a crap team like that win it all just makes 6 months of baseball pointless. They were not a crap team. They were banged up half the year and got healthy at the end.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) Anyone still watching Mr Robot? I started watching the S3 premier last night but only got about halfway through before I had to get to bed. Gonna watch the rest tonight. Ep 2 response. 15 minutes in. After the first couple scenes. Jesus Christ Rami Malek is the best f***ing actor on Earth.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) What's Eloy's defense like in the outfield? Will he go to LF or will Avi move to LF when Eloy is called up? Great to hear Eloy is mashing at such a high level of competition. I'm starting to wonder if he has a strong ST the Sox put him in Charlotte to start the '18 season. I think that him in this system is the biggest reason the White Sox will consider moving Garcia this offseason.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 05:40 PM) I was about to post that there should be 2 more 1 game wildcards but then looked at the standings and those 4 new teams woulda all be under .500 which is stupid. I'd prefer the wildcard to be a 3 game series & seed playoffs based on record (division winners still get in but could be wildcard if they were in a s*** division). Playing 162 games to have it come down to 1 is a bit crazy + doesn't give the #1 seed that big of an advantage Before they tried it I'd agree. Now that I've seen it? I love having it come down to 1 game for those 2 teams. Win your division and you have no complaints. Go into the game, pull out all the stops, and win it. It makes for great watching.

QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) So you’re ok with a team under .500 having a shot at the World Series because of an arbitrary geographic location? Can’t happen in baseball. I’ll say it again- the more four-team groupings you have the more likely one of those groups will have four bad teams unworthy of the postseason. Was it a bad thing when the 82-80 Cardinals won?

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 05:18 PM) Balta was speaking tongue in cheek but fair enough on the lack of quoting. Yes, I assumed that was about the post directly above. It wasn't?

QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 04:26 PM) By this administration getting caught up in lies on a daily basis? You shouldn’t be that shocked anymore. It’s almost been a whole year. He's shocked that CNN would be so biased as to call Chief of Staff Kelly's statement false just because it has been contradicted by actual video of the event in question. When General Kelly says something happened that is contradicted by video of the event, it is not fair to believe the video.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) This happens almost every time he speaks somewhere. Why are colleges still inviting him to speak? They're not. These are Public Universities. Therefore, they are run by the government and the government is not in the business of regulating free speech based on the content. If he follows the rules to book facilities as an outside group and the college allows outside groups to use their facilities, or someone affiliated with the campus is allowed to book facilities, then they have to follow the rules regardless of the group. He has won and will continue winning those lawsuits and the ACLU will be on his side. The University cannot say that they will not host him because of what he might say. Some of them have snuck around based on security exemptions, but you can't invent that rule when the College Republicans want to book him. He was here at A&M last fall and the university held an opposing event. He was invited by a former student who arranged the event. The university didn't host him, but because they provide facilties for any valid group, they had to accept him. The best sign I saw was "Texas Aggies: fighting Nazis since 1941 (It's taking a little longer than we thought)".
-
However they do it, I'm astonished at how much I love the 1 game wild card playins every year.
-
So...I cannot vouch for this source/author, so this darn well might be fake news, but Senator McCain is out there saying there's more about Niger than we know and the Republican Congress won't investigate so I don't feel that bad about rumor mongering right now. At the very least I'm 99% sure I saw the "Private contractor evacuation" part of this verified today.

What was the "projection" quote in the other thread? Lots of that today.
