Reynaldo getting the call and the ball on Friday
Balta1701 replied to Rowand44's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Quin @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 09:46 PM) Went back and watched and came away with two things... 1) That was weeeeird. 2) Abreu is a leader. It bothers me that the player didn't trust the manager and lied to him. -
Incredible play by Sanchez. That should be top 10 on ESPN tonight. Shards of Andrus's bat rolled past Sanchez at 3b and past Abreu at 1b, both while they were trying to field the ball.

Reynaldo getting the call and the ball on Friday

Link For those who missed it, this description misses some of the details. Herm and Renteria went out to speak to Lopez, Lopez said he was fine, Abreu stayed on the mound with Lopez after Herm and Renteria left, Abreu asked Lopez what was really going on, Lopez told Abreu something was bothering him, and Abreu called Herm and Renteria back to the mound and said pull him. -
So we have 4 against the Rangers followed by a Monday DH? This is great news for the Rangers in the Wild Card hunt.

Now Beck removed for injury after hit by ball off Beltre and immediately throwing 3 run HR. Pefrey in.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 09:07 PM) For anyone who didn't watch, Manager and Trainer came out, Lopez said he was fine and they turned around, Abreu asked him what was really up after they left, he told Abreu something was up, and Abreu called Herm back. Just to stress, I've never seen that before, and apparently our pitching staff trusts Abreu more than the coaching staff. Abreu may have just kept him from hurting himself worse.

Well poop.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) That is correct though typically if a team wanted a player they would claim them. There continues to be less interest in Gonzalez than I expect.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) .825 would be pretty shocking. His MiLB OPS for his career is .773. He put up a .768 in his 100 games at Charlotte. He will go through some pretty serious regression here soon. If that's who he is, then he would be best suited for a career as a pinch hitter in the NL.

Well they really dont like Rutherford eh?

I'm rather amazed by this. In the American league, there are only 2 teams that have gotten >.800 OPS out of their DH slot this year - the Indians and the Mariners. The average OPS for AL DHs is .742. The NL is actually getting more production out of the DH spot than the AL. This is only somewhat relevant to Delmonico, but hey, he puts up an .825 OPS and they use him mostly at the DH spot, he'd be the 3rd best DH in the American League.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 07:05 AM) Making an enemy out of Lindsay Graham should work out well for Drumpf When Graham bravely releases more statements before voting for Trump's next birther judge and to fund his border wall I'm sure the President will be very offended.

Out of 292 Republicans in Congress, as of this afternoon, 12 had condemned the president's defense of Nazis and white supremacists as "good people" by name/specifically. A number of others denounced racism without saying why or referencing the President. Only 12 of 292 said that yesterday was unacceptable. Couple more, including Kasich, have similarly used his name but would not be counted as Congress. Paul Ryan is touting his upcoming tax reform.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:53 AM) Home Run Derby ruins swings or simple regression? I think it's mostly the latter. Literally no one is pointing out major swing flaws from him, and his contact/HR/Fly ball rates were all screwy in the first half.

Can't fire him until 2021, he's got that long. Better be in the series that year. -
His time in Florida didn't exactly earn him any other jobs.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 06:23 PM) I cannot for the life of me reconcile the scouting opinion of Lopez -- will struggle to start, is a 3rd starter type -- with the results and actual stuff. I don't want to start a "saber verse scouting" war but in this case the old school scouting worries seem absurd to me. Which part of this is getting called the "old school scouting worries" and which part is the "saber" part? A little lost on how to read this comment. Thanks.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 05:16 PM) And again I know it's silly, but I'm truly shocked by today's events. Not because I didn't think he was capable of selling out humanity again, but every once in a while you realize when the trump show hits reality. This poor woman's death in any other era would cause reflection. He is incapable of siding against anyone who vehemently supports him, which at this point is basically his weaponized trolls and white supremacists. When someone shows you who they are the first time, believe them. Whether it's because of who supports him or because he truly is one of them in his heart, this is who he is. It's who he has been every time. It's why he won. It is a fundamental statement of who we are as a people and a country.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 02:58 PM) Im on the fence with this one. I cant decide if Rabbit's post is just worded horribly or if he really believes that "influence and success" is genetic. At first I thought worded horribly, but his implication that Ivanka has a better genetic profile is somewhat disturbing as scientifically there is no way to know whether Ivanka has good or bad genetics. I think a good example of this is Paris Hilton. Does she have better genes than Ivanka? Better than someone random in Appalachia? I dont know the answer. Will Bezos have super children? I guess my biggest problem with this whole argument is that it seems Rabbit is going down the path of science denial. I mean its just common sense that the Earth is flat, common sense that the Earth is the center of the universe... The problem is science has repeatedly shown that what people "commonly" believed was wrong. Basically the last 20+ years of behavioral science has shown that there is no real evidence for one group being genetically "superior" to others in any way that is relevant to behavior. There are certain traits that are found in certain populations - sickle cell anemia for example, more substantial risk of certain illnesses being triggered by environmental exposures, but in terms of behavior or ability or who you turn out to be in life, things are so complicated by how people are raised, by the interaction between the environment and genetics, that it is impossible to tease out one factor from another. By the time you reach the point of discussing "things that make you successful" you've piled on such a huge degree of complications that teasing out genetic differences is statistically impossible. Most of those studies have been done using twins - identical genetic material but different environments, and that's the basic result. Aside from specific, genetically at risk diseases, the science argues against these statements. Furthermore, just as he said that "incest" is more common in rural areas (which btw I can't find any evidence to actually support that, it turns out that incest is most common between siblings and there aren't statistics drawing which of those are urban/rural), you have environmental issues that could easily push a different way. Comparing a person from Appalachia with New York for example, someone from New York could very well have higher exposures to lead as a youth in a way that would do greater cognitive damage.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) You were coming at me in caulfield's white privilege thread saying minorities don't have the same opportunities as whites. Now you're telling me the people in Appalachia, who are in a far worse situation than urban poor people, have just as much opportunity as Ivanka Trump. That kind of flies in the face of other opinons you've espoused. Literally no one has said that. Everyone here other than you would agree that a person growing up in, as you say, a meth (it's opiates today by the way) hammered location will not have the same opportunities as a rich person in New York. Only you have insisted that is because that group is genetically inferior.
-
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) ETA: I just re-read your post. You are still making genetic superiority arguments. Why is Ivanka Trump likely to be a better mother than literally anyone from Appalachia? Why is it unlikely that someone born in Appalachia and moved to a world of wealth not likely to make something of themselves? There is literally no basis in science for those arguments. And those statements are where you completely lose me. And strong evidence against it, FWIW.
