An Insider Look into Actual Fictious Trade Talks
Balta1701 replied to hi8is's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) I don't see Houston ever being willing to part with that much talent to trade for Sale Bregman, Martes and Tucker alone is a huge return...Moran and Whitley being added would completely gut the farm system for years You *SHOULD* be gutting your farm system to add a Chris Sale. You have a top of the rotation starter under control for 3 years. You're making a move to win those 3 years. You will have 3 years of drafts and signings to restock that system. -
Nuclear security expert keeps getting asked for the last few weeks if there are any checks to prevent the US President from starting a nuclear war, describes in detail how the entire system is set up in the opposite way, such that no one ever questions a President's decision to launch a nuclear war under any circumstances until it is over.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Not sure why Toronto would empty their already mediocre system for a guy like Eaton when they could just sign Fowler and give up 1 pick. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) Fowler would seem to make more sense for them than Eaton, although it depends on his contract demands QUOTE (peppers312 @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) Because Fowler wants 4 years and Eaton is obviously already under control. The Blue Jays opening day payroll in 2016 was $112.8 million. . Before picking up arbitration options, they already have $110 million just from signed contracts for 2017. Add in guys like Stroman who obviously will be picked up and they have a higher payroll guaranteed next year already than they have had since 2014 when they had a $132 million opening day payroll. Add $20 million/4 years for Fowler on top of that and they're at the highest payroll in team history, without any other moves.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) I didn't actually think Breitbart had a lower place to sink to, then he died, and... well, here we are, it's a white supremacist site, basically. "I didn't think Breitbart had a lower place to sink to, then he died, and well here we are...they're in an even lower place, Trump's White House".

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) I bet some of that future beach front land is really cheap now too. Problem is you can't predict where the beach will be. The exact sea level rise in a single location isn't just a function of total volume of the oceans, you also have to worry about ocean current changes and ocean temperature changes in specific spots.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 05:37 PM) 99.99% of the country didn't know who the guy was until the media told them he was racist. If they actually put forwards a plan to require muslims to register or require people to present their papers to verify they're legally here, will you stand against it?

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 09:12 PM) Also to me Sale seemed to be showing some warning signs in terms of all the pitches he's thrown in his career. Some games he seemed to struggle to reach 93mph. I guess maybe there's a subtle, slight downward trend 15 to 16? But Fangraphs classifies him as having thrown a straight fastball in 2015 and then classifies everything he threw as a 2 seamer in 2016, so maybe not apples to apples?

Jason Castro signs with Twins at 3 years 24.5 million
Balta1701 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) Depends what we consider "that high" to be. I don't think he is a jimmy rollins signing, But if there has been a position recently where soxtalk has overestimated the signings for, it's the offensively challenged catcher. But if the 8-9mm/yr pricetag that has been projected is real I could see us making that investment regardless of future plans. If I had to guess I'd put him in the range of 3/$36 or 4/$50. I will be surprised if he is substantially below that. Apparently Olney tweeted yesterday he will get "at least a 3 year deal". -

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) I feel like the sox could sign castro and still be rebuilding. I don't think his price will be that high and it would be nice to have a good veteran catcher that isn't terrible defensively for rodon/other young'ns. I still struggle a ton to believe "his price won't be that high". There are too many teams in need of catchers on the FA market and only 2 catchers worthy of being starters on a good team on the market. Could be surprised, but him taking a low value/couple year contract would defy the state of this market. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 11:00 AM) He pitched in 62 games and had 4 bad ones. What you just wrote makes zero sense. Try again. He pitched in over 61 innings., In 4 outings he gave up 17 runs in in 2 2/3 innings. He gave up 7 runs in the other 59 1/3. Not quite getting lit up as a starter every 2nd or 3rd start. What you don't realize is you just made a convincing case that he was worse than I thought. You've now also given me reason to think that a slight dropoff in those other innings could leave him dropping from acceptable to terrible.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) Total false equivalence. Think of how people play that game with starters. "If you take out John Danks's 4 worst starts his ERA is under 3". It's not really a valid game in that case either, but when you're only pitching 60 innings, getting blown up in 4 of them isn't something you get to ignore.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) I started listening to a few different podcasts recently, and listened to the Joe Rogan experience yesterday, and his guests are Graham Hancock and Randall Carlson. Anyone interested in ancient civilizations, comet impacts, egypt, extinction events, you need to listen to this podcast. It is absolutely fascinating Why do I get the feeling I should run as far away from this as fast as possible?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) Yes. He got lit up 4 times in 2016. The rest of the time, despite his command issues, his ERA was a little bit over 1.00. When he has his command, he makes good hitters look like fans from the stands grabbing a bat. Maybe his glute problem or knee issue contributed to it, or maybe just getting away for a few months and rebooting will do the job, but he really hasn't lost much. He never did rely on heavy gas. You do realize that when you pitch 60 innings, getting lit up 4 times is like a starter getting lit up every 2nd or 3rd start right? That's really not good?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 12:12 AM) It wasnt just that. They also sold fictitious solutions. I do believe that many voters bought what Trump was selling, but I have a feeling none of those people ever tried things like Trump wine. True story, if you have a wedding at Trump Tower, they serve Trump wine. Bannon is there to make sure that the hatred of everyone isn't just talk. That's why he's there.

Buddy of mine is part of the Republican foreign policy establishment and a professor of international relations. Put this piece up tonight, I'll share a portion.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 10:40 PM) Wait I thought Bannon said this. Who's they? Well, the United States Government, who he will be an employee of at the highest level.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 06:24 PM) Under no circumstances, should Bannon be associated with the White house. Trump needs to get his act together. The nationalist sentiments coming from the campaign is always what terrified me the most about Trump. This is why they got elected, at least as much as the electoral college. They told people it's ok to be bigots and that excited the Republican base. This is his act.

The Yankees could be interested in more than Sale

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 05:52 PM) Isn't Tex a FA? They're trying to move McCann also. So color me shocked Jose Abreu isn't in there. Teixeira has retired. -
Steve Bannon sees 20% of silicon valley ceo's being asian, mentally freaks out and interprets this as 75%, winds up saying that having large numbers of asians in those roles is bad for civic society. Remember folks, it's not just the muslims, brown people, blacks, and jews. They'll get down the list to hating you personally eventually.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 02:28 PM) To be honest? The bottom tax rate is meaningless. NO one actually pays that tax rate. By the time all of the deductions are taken, especially the EITC, most people who would fall into the 10% bracket are actually paying a negative tax rate. The bottom 50% of earners in this country pay an average income tax of about 3% versus the 28% at the top 0.1% or 27% at the top 1%. That also means that any cuts of the lowest income tax bracket are practically worthless. People in those ranges aren't paying any of those taxes anyway. Politically, it is so stupid to even think about raising the bottom rate. It isn't like you are going to raise an appreciable amount of income anyway as long as the deduction structure we have in place now sticks around. The blowback you get from it will destroy any help to the bottom line that this would raise. Just to stress again...all of those are still subject to the payroll tax, which is much larger than the quoted numbers.

Rumor: Dodgers & Sox discussing Sale & Frazier
Balta1701 replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Wild card for Houston is Yulieski Gurriel. Both he and Bregmann play 3b. It makes no sense for the White Sox to go after him since he's 32, but they have to figure out where he's playing next year. They have a young 1b who might be sliding in, which would move Gurriel to corner OF perhaps, which makes for an odd setup when you've just signed a Cuban 3b. -
Braves among teams showing interest in chris sale
Balta1701 replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) Sox need offense pieces. I don't think the Braves fit. Trade would have to be Swanson, Inciarte, Albies, and two of the pitchers and I still wouldn't love it. I have zero issues with the White Sox bringing back pitching in a Sale deal. A rotation of Quintana, Rodon, Fulmer still has several spots to fill with things that are better than James Shields, you always assume some guys will bust out of any group you bring back/draft, and bringing back additional pitching could make moving Quintana more palatable as well. I'd probably have issue with the White Sox bringing back ONLY pitching, but I could deal with a pitching-headlined deal. -

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) I would do the deal personally from Washington's perspective, but it's not a layup at all. Turner has substantially longer control and likely more "projected surplus" than Sale. But, if you look at what they're projected to do in 2017, Chris Sale is projected to put up 5 WAR, Turner is projected to put up 3. Washington is in a position where they have a 2 year deadline - compete now or else, since Bryce Harper will be wearing a Yankee uniform. They might not be willing to give up much beyond Turner, but it makes them substantially better right now. -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) Could Abreu and Nate Jones bring back Bregman in a trade with Houston? Probably not huh? No. You want him you'll have to uncork one of the starters.
