  1. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 05:21 PM) I know its a complete long shot but the Von Miller negotiations have gone reeeeeeeeeeallly sour with Denver. Von says there is no way he will play under the tag next year. Could it be possible that he just might be a Bear next year? Pretty Please? How does the Bears cap space look next year? FWIW, barring a major injury he'd get franchise tagged again next year. His salary this year is $15 million, next year would be 120% of that, so only $18 million. The 3rd year would be where it got bad for the Broncos, that year it would jump 144% if I understand the CBA correctly, so he'd be talking $26 million that year.
  2. Jesus. I told myself I wasn't logging in here today because that paper had to be finished. The paper is finished and so I opened ESPN to check the score. Wow.
  3. Apparently one of the features of our country is the sound of an empty building after a mass shooting with a number of cell phones going off as family members keep calling in the hope someone will pick up.
  4. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 05:28 PM) If they took on that much payroll, from a team anxious to dump salaries, I doubt that it would take all 3 of those prospects. In any case, would you try, or simply accept this futility? I can't answer that any more because I'd have never let it get to this point. The real answer depends on how desperate RH and company (whoever is making the actual decisions today) are to save their jobs. If I were not desperate to save my job, I'd have let the next month play out and see if guys can break their way out of their funks. However, I also wouldn't have added Shields's salary while cutting Latos, and I wouldn't be calling Anderson up, etc. If the GM is as desperate to save his job as those moves suggest to me he is, then you've got to take the chance to move some of those guys.
  5. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 04:57 PM) Ok guys, you fill in the blanks, in order to get this team to the point of something other than complete offensive ineptitude: The only players who should be penciled in the lineup, unless injured or traded are: RF or CF Eaton 1B Abreu LF or DH Cabrera 3B Frazier DH Morneau, when he is activated That leaves room for another outfielder, upgrades at catcher, second base and short. Good luck with that. The Sox could do it. They just have to trade Adams, Anderson, and Fulmer. That's enough to add several major pieces. Ballooning the payroll to $140-150 mil probably wouldn't hurt either.
  6. QUOTE (Scoots @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 04:57 PM) Shields going tomorrow. See what he's got. Offense just doesn't have it going. Maybe Morneau will help this lineup, but when you have the middle of your lineup not hitting, and constantly getting runners in scoring position with less than 2 outs not driving them in, not much can help. Guys not doing what they are getting paid to do. It's all mental right now. They need a spark. Talent is there, momentum is not. Morneau is a month away. If you're counting on him to help this lineup...they need to win some series and at least hang out around .500 for the next month, which would be a big improvement from the last month.
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 03:27 PM) Brett Lawrie is our own version of Dan Uggla isn't he? He's not nearly that bad defensively is he?
  8. Seems like the Royals ran themselves out of a big inning there.
  9. Somewhat related - LAPD stopped there from being a second one today.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 11, 2016 -> 11:31 PM) That poll group has outed itself as being unreliable, then. This godforsaken state will NEVER again vote Democrat. These rubes re-elected Brownback!!! EVERYBODY hates Brownback, even the people who voted for him just cause he has R next to his name on the ballot. He'd win re-election tomorrow if he ran because these rubes can't vote for anybody but a Republican. There's no way this state will vote for Hillary. She'd be a fool to waste one moment campaigning anywhere near here. Not jumping on the messenger. It is interesting poll, but that poll is FLAWED obviously. p.s. During the governor election, one big newspaper out here had an editorial where the owner backed Brownback. I kid you not. The reasoning in the article backing Brownback was something like this, I paraphrase: "He didn't mean to do a poor job the first time around. Surely he'll do better for the people of Kansas during his next term." How do these people who punch R or D live with themselves? I told you, I'm an R but I voted for Obama. I get the feeling some of you will vote for Hillary only because of that D by her name. If so that is shameful. Hillary and Trump both suck equally. Vote for somebody else for gawdsakes people!
  11. Per some bits of the police report he also texted photos of the victim's body to some of his friends on the night of, using one of those "non-photo-storing" apps. The text portion was still displayed on his phone when the police took him in. "Whos t*t is that".
  12. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 11, 2016 -> 07:52 PM) As I suggested in the post, Lucroy is the left handed bat, which the Brewers are willing to trade, preferably to a team that will take Braun's salary. Lucroy would only be signed through next year, if the team exercised the very reasonable option. Hopefully, Collins could be ready to provide the left handed bat, by 2018, although it's very unlikely that he would be ready to catch. If the White Sox need 2 bats, and you're penciling in a guy for 2018, then they need 4 bats, because they have Frazier and Lowry through 2017. Hell so is Lucroy. And if they were to say, trade for Braun...that's adding a guy paid $56 million from 2018-2020, and $33 million in 2016-2017. They may well have the money to do that. But ask yourself whether they will be able to add that contract, keep their rotation together and improving...and still find a way to retain Frazier as he gets towards his mid-30s. Or replace Frazier. Or whatever. Maybe they can. But when you're adding multiple players and saying they need multiple players..."where are they getting the money to keep these guys" matters.
  13. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 11, 2016 -> 07:36 PM) When was Braun's production ever not impressive? He has been one of the Major's most consistently good hitters, his entire career, with or without PEDS. This team needs some offense, and the outfield is as good of a place to start, as any. There is no one in the organization who is expected to provide outfield offense, in the next couple of years. They will be looking for another free agent, in the off season, if they don't acquire someone now, and next year's free agent class doesn't offer much. I'd just as soon have Braun, for the next 4 seasons. He is probably worth the $19 million per year and if he gets suspended over PEDS, they would not have to pay him. It's obvious that this team has no intention of rebuilding, so if they are going to go for it, the next couple of seasons, they better acquire some offense. They are at least two solid bats away from having a respectable offense, and one of them needs to be left handed. Does anyone disagree with that? Then a general question would be...where are they going to get the second one?
  14. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 11, 2016 -> 05:29 PM) "Balta," would you give up Fulmer, and take on all of Braun's contract? I would. Next year, when Morneau leaves for free agency, Braun goes back to LF, Melky DH's and the Sox sign a good defensive centerfielder, so that Eaton could go back to RF. With Braun and Lucroy added to the offense, they could go with an Austin Jackson type centerfielder, with not much offense. Would I as a White Sox fan or would I if I were in Rick Hahn's chair and desperately trying to save my job? Because the answers are fundamentally different. And don't care one bit about Morneau either way. I'm convinced that the structure of his deal is set up to give the Sox the ability to release him when his rehab stint ends if they get someone better based on previous discussion. $650k or so have another option is a tiny risk.
  15. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 11, 2016 -> 05:22 PM) When a team like Atlanta plays horribly, people say they suck. When a team with bigger names and a higher payroll like the Sox play horribly, people chalk it up to a rough stretch. No, they don't "look like" anything. They aren't good. That's all there is to it. One good pitching performance tomorrow from whoever is pitching and they suddenly "look" solid.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 11, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) But we have it on good authority that he's the least racist person ever! Just check for Trump's personal assurance, it came shortly after him attacking Sen. Warren as "Pocahontas" for several minutes with his crowd doing "Indian war cries" Apparently they have trouble keeping those in stock. There's clearly more than one design/printer running them - different color scheme.
  17. I don't see how you get Lucroy without one of either Anderson or Fulmer + more.
  18. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 11, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) Sox continue to be KC little b**** in every way possible, I am sure KC will win Sunday with a Ventura masterpiece. I feel bad for people who wasted time and money going to watch this s***. Or he'll throw randomly at someone for no reason. Win the series tomorrow and finally they'e back in a groove of winning series. Huge difference.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) Some speculation Cubs are talking to Yanks about Chapman. Would love to hear Julie D. defend that I saw similar speculation about Miller a day ago.
  20. Donald Trump getting an appropriate welcome from his fans at the Pittsburgh Airport today.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 02:25 PM) That would interesting to look at. Who has the bigger salary 26-31 or 31-36? I would put the latter group in the more likely to be injured but not the former. Absolutely the latter group. The only way guys stay in the league until they're in their 30s is if they've already had years of success, and the only 26 year olds in baseball who will be hitting free agency at 26 are Harper and Trout. Plus, GMs love signing those contracts that balloon over time.
