  1. Eh, he's alright. Heh, just kidding. Jason does seem to be a nice guy.
  2. No, but a 3.20 career ERA over a nearly 30 year career is pretty darned impressive. And if you don't think Ripken's record is amazing and worthy of all the acknowledgement it received, YOU are the one who knows nothing about baseball.

    Congratulations LOL

You did it wrong. You have to tell it to stop using color with [/color]. Otherwise, it won't work.
  5. Excuse me but amazing durability/longevity aside, his 3.20 career ERA and nearly 300 losses are very human. I will go as far as to say that if Nolan was pitching today instead of 60-80's, in tiny stadiums like Devilraydome, Camden, BOB, etc, with juiced up players, live ball, watered down pitching, etc...he would be a 4.00 ERA pitcher...whereas Unit and Pedro would be untouchable if they pitching back then- I am talking about ERA in 1.00s. Easily. 292 career losses certainly is human, but 5,714 strikeouts is anything but human. That is sick and insane, and his 7 career no-hitters is remarkable. I can't believe I'm having to defend Nolan Ryan. I am sorry I have to point out somethnig this obvious: Strikeouts (like homers) are only as good as the ERA/OPSagainst (RBI total ) they go toward improving. Baseball 101. I'd rather have Zito or Greg Maddox and thier his low K/9inn ratio than to have Nolan in most of his seasons...Best ever? If Pedro was pitching in the 70-80's, his career ERA would be HALF of Nolans, get real. And if Tony Gwynn hit in the big ballparks of the early 1900's, he might have hit .400 for his career. What's your point? You can't penalize a guy because of when he played, and you can't praise someone for how they may have played in any given time period.

Nah, but Michelle is saying that she wouldn't be surprised if that slide f***s him up.
  7. Yep. If a love for the game and/or all the zeros on their paychecks aren't enough to light a fire under someone's ass, they have no place in the league.

    WTF?

Cut and pasted from CBSsportsline.com The Cubs are 3-3 without Sammy Sosa, who has one game left on his suspension for using a corked bat. Sosa said he used the corked bat to hit crowd-pleasing drives in batting practice, but mistakenly used it during a game. The crowd liked the show he put on during batting practice Monday -- long drives to all parts of Great American Ball Park, including two that landed on the roof of the enormous batter's eye building in center. I didn't know players were allowed to even be in the park while they're suspended, let alone go on the field and take BP. If you ask me, that shouldn't be allowed.
  10. Guardado loses the game for em. KC wins 9-8.
  11. Bottom line is that you shouldn't use the words "suck" and "Nolan Ryan" in the same paragraph. You could probably pick apart ANY player's yearly stats and find faults in them. You need to look at a person's career as a WHOLE. And I am not one of the MB bashers. I don't like some of his St Louis comments, but NEVER would I take pleasure in him losing, because I root for the Sox first-and-foremost. I want him to get it turned around just as much as anyone here, because the Sox NEED it. In time, I hope we can compare Buehrle to Ryan, but to even try doing that right now is silly.
  12. Yep, 8-8, and they have a runner on 2nd w/ 0 out.
  13. What are you talking about man? Do you not remember the incident? A guy took Chad's hat, probably yelled some drunken obscenties in his face, and Chad choked him. Is that allowable in a civil society? To start choking a guy because he takes your hat and says some words to you? If you think that is acceptable and commendable.... And you're right, the justice system is perfect, so let's blindly accept any and all court decisions that are made I remember the incident very well. I also know who is clueless about what statute law and case law in civil cases. It is not what you personally think because you saw something on tv news once. It is what is presented to the court in light of all of the rules of evidence and who is liable for what and what the law defines. If you think the Cubs ought to be responsible for the actions of someone in their ballpark, then I can't argue with you. I realize that by law they are, but that doesn't mean I agree with it or that it's the way it should be. If we were talking about a CUB player that did the choking, this would be an open and shut case, but how can the CUBS not only control the fans, but the actions of the other team? If Chad hadn't choked the guy, security would have come and removed the "fan" from the premises, and the incident never would have occured, so I don't see HOW the Cubs could be forced to pay anything to that nitwit, let alone nearly half a million dollars.
  14. Yes, it is tough. It's sorta like comparing apples and oranges. But, there's a general way to do it. Namely, MVP's and Cy Youngs. To me, MVP's are worth more since it takes a lot more players into consideration (position players AND pitchers), but for the sake of this "argument" I'll consider them equal. Frank won MVP's in 1993 and 1994, his 3rd and 4th full seasons, respectively. MB is in his 3rd full season, and I don't think he's going to be winning a Cy Young based on what he's done so far. Bottom line, though, is that the Sox need BOTH of these guys to perform well if they hope to win anything this season. Can we drop it now everyone?
  15. By "both", if you're including me, you need to learn how to f***ing read dude. Thank you.
  16. In no way am I "backing" theoldroman. I think his comments are absurd and ridiculous, and as far as I'm concerned, he's not a Sox fan. He's just a Frank Thomas fan, which is fine, but just admit it is all I'm saying. And you're right, the guys you mentioned haven't had 7 dominant seasons like Frank did in the 1990's. But, when someone starts comparing a 4th year pitcher who had 2 good seasons (good, not great) to a guy who put up some ungodly numbers (a guy who also happens to be my favorite athlete), I'm going to speak up. Not "backing" Roman -- just backing up fact. And you're right, I DON'T know if Mark will or will not put up 7 dominant seasons. Chances are he won't, but of course anything can happen. Fact is that Frank DID do it.
  17. The White Sox offense didn't beat Pedro, either. We beat Ryan Rupe (LOL). Like I said, we lucked out tonight. Anyone who saw the game knows that we would have been done had Pedro been able to pitch 7-8 innings like he normally does. BUT, we still shut down a very good offensive team, and held a lead to get a huge victory to open up this 4-game series.
  18. He sure did. Oh, I'm sure that's what he meant. But, he could have just said it and not started comparing Mark to "sucky" Nolan Ryan.
  19. What are you talking about man? Do you not remember the incident? A guy took Chad's hat, probably yelled some drunken obscenties in his face, and Chad choked him. 20. Frank Thomas, 0-for-4, 2 K's! What a loser! You little punk. Frank Thomas .275 BA, 16 homeruns and 35 RBIs. MB 3-10 with a 4.85 ERA. And Franks a loser? Check last year Frank Thomas - .259 average, 28 homers, 92 RBI, 110 or so K's, 80 BB's.....very bad numbers for Frank, and this isn't mentioning how he had numbers over about .230 10 35 at this time last year. Mark Buehrle - 19-12 with an ERA of about 3.60, and he would have won 20, had it not been for Bobby Kielty If we did not have Buehrle, we would be in a rebuilding mode right now, and we wouldn't even have Thomas anymore. We probably wouldn't have Valentin, Konerko, Lee, Maggs, Koch, Gordon, Wunsch, and several others. We wouldn't even be within striking distance of Minnesota, because we'd be somewhere between Cleveland and Detroit. You have to thank Buehrle for even having Thomas. Ugh. Saying that MB is responsible for Frank being here is just laughable. Frank is still a member of the Sox because of Jerry Reinsdorf, nobody else. And it's a STRETCH to say all of those players you mentioned may not be here if it wasn't for MB. And finally, don't compare Frank, a future HOF'er, to MB until Mark has had 7 consecutive dominant seasons (just like Frank had at the start of his career), OK?
  21. Fine, he had a handful of starts in 2000. So he's a 3.25 year pitcher. Happy? And if Nolan had 5000 K's and 7 no-hitters for the Sox, I'd overlook his 18 loss seasons.
  22. I didn't call him the greatest pitcher of all time. The "greatest ever" is open to interpretation, but there's no disputing that Nolan one of the best ever, and PERHAPS the best.
  23. Psycho, check up how many pitchers won as many for the Sox in 2 seasons as MB did in in 2001-02 with some lousy playing Sox teams. He's had a rough stretch. And he hasn't even been all that bad in that rough stretch. MB is the man and how many struggling pitchers can go out and beat Pedro Martinez? Well, he didn't beat Pedro Martinez. The Sox lucked out in a lot of ways, as they caught Pedro coming off an injury and on a low pitch count. But, he DID shut down a very good offensive team, and gave the Sox a much-needed victory. Mark!
