  1. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 08:47 PM) The accountability issue is still the greatest concern for me. How can Rios still be on the field with his play and his attitude? The guy has a .244 OBP. How is that possible? De Aza has his second consecutive great season at AAA, gets called up, and hits a homer in his first game, a game in which practically no one else did anything offensively. The very next game Rios is back in CF and de Aza is on the bench, just because there was a LH starter for Boston. That is not my idea of accountability. I have no idea what the state of the Sox clubhouse is, but it probably isn't very good, and shouldn't be. I've been preaching the lack of accountability for years. It is without a doubt, in my opinion, the biggest problem on this team. You hit it right on the head.
  2. I know it's a great gesture and I appreciate it, but I still say that statute sucks. It's like one of those Starting Lineups you didn't want and couldn't wait to trade.
  3. QUOTE (since56 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 06:35 AM) He doesn't use late game substitutions enough. Especially pinch runners for Konerko and Dunn. If you are going to bunt then make sure the guy bunting can bunt. Coaching some in this area might help. How about making sure the pitchers hold on base runners better? This can also be done with coaching. Hold the coaches involved responsible for preparing the players to execute. Defensive positioning is not good under Ozzie. When do the Sox employ a shift? Do they hold any runner on second base. Ozzie leaves a lot to be desired but overall is about average in game managing. In my humble opinion as a long time observer. I think players fear what he may say publicly when he goes on his profanity filled tirades. His son chirping about his boss and his employer would not be tolerated in any other workplace. His act has worn thin. I don't think the players respect him or like him and also fear his big mouth and what his tool of a son may write about any of them. Walking on egg shells in the clubhouse because Oney may go public is not a good atmosphere. Ozzie must still supply Oney with information. Coaching and preperation are not so good. In game managing is avearage at best. Atmosphere and leadership can't be trusted. If he doesn't win now I would love to see a change made. All of this is true.
  4. Is that a joke? I mean, the picture is so small that I may be wrong, but that doesn't even look like it's Frank. And that is a terrible choice of stance for the statue.
  5. Mike MacDougal had a pretty sweet stretch, as I recall.
  6. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) I think eventually, AJ, Boner, and Buehrle will have retired #'s and statues. I've never once heard this nickname, but I assume from context that it's Konerko? I hate when people insert their own nicknames into discussions so I have to go out of my way to figure out who they're referring to. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) AJ? Not a chance. Where did that come from? Konerko and Buehrle, for sure. Maybe Ozzie if he doesn't burn too many bridges on his way out. The Sox have retired too many numbers as it is. I like the idea of a team Hall of Fame for guys like Ventura and maybe Dye being the Series MVP (although Crede was clearly the best player), and reserve the retired numbers and statues for actual MLB Hall of Famers. It's going to be a sad day when the Sox make a statue for that clown in the broadcast booth. And you know it will happen. I will almost guarantee that Ozzie burns bridges on the way out. He's (or his ghost writer, Oney) going to drudge up personal clubhouse stuff, and I kind of hope he does so that others can mention his own personal problems. And yes, it will suck that Hawk gets a statue.
  7. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) Addition by subtraction; don't let the door hit ya Mr Teahen...We all of a sudden have tons of pitching...so much pitching we don't know what to do with it. Ohman and Rios gotta go too IMO. Just for chemistry. Wait, what did I miss?
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:41 PM) The Sox have Frasor/Crain in the pen. Cowley is pissed. Last night he said no way the rumor was true. He got scooped by a guy in his underwear in his mom's basement. Stealing this.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) In his one year with the Sox, Jackson was 11-9 with a 3.66 ERA. Not bad. Gavin Floyd has never had a season with an ERA that low. John Danks did once. Jackson was a lot better with the Sox than most realize. And somehow strangely enough, he was a lot worse with the Sox than most realize.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) He's usually 35 years old, not 25. ZING!
  11. Hey, the guy deserves it. It's only because the criteria is so low, but he qualifies
  12. I mean if Jackson gets one, why not you? Sorry half the board STILL can't spell your name. Your twitter account was sometimes humorous, so thanks.
  13. I'll just say that we might have been able to get more for Jackson, but this deal (ignoring the possibility to land Rasmus instead) is pretty decent. We rid ourselves of the garbage that is Teahen and apparently Frasor is a type B, which offsets losing the picks for Jackson. And I believe Frasor even has a club option for next season if we choose to hold onto him.
  14. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:48 PM) Rasmus just brought EJax and a couple of relievers. Come on, guy. You can't be this ignorant. Rios is going nowhere unless we eat the majority of his contract.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) I believe we are going to deal off a ton. Probably in the $20 to $25 million range, maybe more depending on what the offers look like, before the 31st. That'd be nice.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) Like I said much more is going to happen. Do you truly believe we're packing it in and starting from scratch? I have my fingers crossed.
  17. Is this where we're at? Appreciation for Edwin Jackson? The guy contributed nothing to this team in essence. The best thing he ever did for us was to help us dump Teahen.
  18. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 07:33 PM) Frank was one of my favorite players and arguably the best right handed hitter of all time in his prime when he was mainly an opposite field hitter. The only other right handed hitters that could compare would be Hornsby and Jimmie Foxx (I'm not including McGuire and Bagwell is suspect). That's an understatement. You also can't leave Hank Aaron out. The guy gets so little love for as great as he was.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 12:58 PM) Can't wait to see it. Still hoping it's of him standing at the plate staring at the pitcher with the bat just above his shoulder. That's how I'll always think of him. You can just imagine the panic going through that pitcher's mind. That would be perfect.
  20. QUOTE (heirdog @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) Out. This team could scrape and claw and win the division and then get bounced in the first round...no thanks. World Series Championship or bust...not a battle for the weak AL Central title 2006 St. Louis Cardinals and all that noise...
  21. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 12:49 AM) 6 are "out"? Come on, have the balls to cop to it I've been saying it everywhere else, but yeah, I'm one.
  22. This team WOULD go on a mini-streak going into the deadline. f***.
