Not to put a damper on the idea of the Sox getting Patterson, but if he keeps playing the way he is, we'd never have the prospects to get him.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 09:08 PM) There isn't a single player in baseball whom is still playing that has come out of the closet. It would be an impossible situation. I'm sure there's more than a few who are gay but none of them show it openly. I didn't mean there has to be some that are openly gay. I meant that there has to be some that are just gay.

There's gotta be. I mean, with that many people, at least a few must be. And I've heard that about what Felix said. But, I think that was a popular rumor.

When you say "he seems receptive," do you mean Phil or do you mean one of Silvio/Chris/Paulie?

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
Milkman delivers replied to greasywheels121's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) Pauly vs. Tigers this year 13 AB, 7 H, 1 HR, 4 RBI, .538 Avg, Thome vs. Tigers this year 11 AB, 5 H, 3 HR, 5 RBI, .455 Avg Not too shabby. Uribe leads the Sox with 49 AB with runners in scoring position. He is hitting a lovely .204 with risp. Well, that's basically his average. If all of our players would hit the same with RISP as they normally hit, I'd be very happy. -
I haven't watched this show much recently, so I'm gonna have to ask this. Why would they kill Silvio? I'd be unhappy with that, as he's been one of my favorite characters.

When I say that I aced a test, I usually mean that I did really well on it. That usually means I got an A, but it could be A+.

I actually couldn't give a rat's ass about any off-the-field issues, so I'll just stick to the players. The positives are: Crede, Iguchi, Konerko, Pods, and Dye (though they're all pretty streaky). AJ is a positive, too, of course. Widger has been hitting well, so that's a positive (wish he'd call a decent game once in a while, though). Jenks has been great, Cotts has been good enough, and Thornton is seemingly coming around. Garcia has pitched pretty well for now without his fastball. Garland has been better of late. Buehrle will do what he does every year. Vazquez is pitching well, besides his Garland-esque innings. And Contreras has had one bad start all year. There are many more positives than there are negatives, but that still doesn't prevent the negatives to really hurt us all the time.

We need some real changes to be WS contenders again.

Ugh, this is what I have to come home to? This skid is starting to feel more like a trend than minor bump in the road.
-
I don't like that line of thought at all. By having a losing streak now, we're not assured of not having one later. We need to win every game possible, and giving away as many games as it seems we have this year might just bite us in the ass later.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 07:42 AM) Gee, can kids be successful without pushy parents and becomming social nerds? Believe it or not but some kids enjoy intellectual challenges. Of course they can. Hell, I used to watch Jeopardy! all the time from grade school through high school, and I was damn good at it. But, I bet there is a pretty significant percentage of these spelling bee families that fall into the category of being the obsessive, pushy perfectionists.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) had to take a shot...I liked my odds Ha, I can understand that. Saying 7 runs was mostly hyperbole, anyway. It'd be a bad bet for me because I wouldn't want it to happen in the first place, and secondly because more often than not, a pitcher won't give up that many runs.
-
If you guys think we can get it done, I'll be glad to put in as many votes as I can. Dye definitely has the numbers to back it up.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 08:13 AM) Care to put your money where your mouth is? See anyone can say some s*** like you just did and then if Garland does give up 7 you can look down on all of us from your mighty spot on top of your horse and say "I TOLD YOU SO" If the Sox win, however, you can just be like "woohoo sox win" Maybe if we invest a little something besides just your words on your 7 or more earned runs prediction?? Say $50 ?? There's no chance I'm betting against my own team. Jeez, I get enough s*** just for being pessimistic. And I don't shove it down people's throats when something bad happens and I said it would. Oh yeah, and even if I wanted to gloat like you say, I wouldn't be able to since I will be in MI for the weekend. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 08:42 AM) Anyone would think Jon Garland is the worst pitcher in baseball, and we're on a 10 game losing streak by some of the posts. At some point this season, we were going to hit a flat spot. We can't win all 162 games. We can't win every series. Let's just remember that this is a very good team. We don't have a .623 winning percentage for nothing. Last season we were a good team in away games. This year it's home games, so that's something Ozzie probably needs to address to his group. But it's still early, and we've got a wildcard spot still. FWIW I think Jon will come out with a good outing tomorrow. He's got a 2.75 ERA at home, and yeah you can argue it was against bad teams, but he still came out and performed well. He's kept the ball in the park a lot more at home, which shows he's probably using his sinker more. Care to say something positive about this team for once? I say positive things where positive things are deserved. Jon Garland, of the 6.something ERA, has given me nothing to be positive about this year. The bullpen, too, has given me nothing to be positive about beyond Jenks, Cotts, and Thornton (who I've been saying will be a contributor since KW got him). And the same goes for the blackhole at the bottom of the order.

Wow, this guy is really good.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) just changed my sig a little. we need to spread the word around. we should pin a "get jermaine dye in the allstar game" thread . and leave it up there until voting ends Just saying.. if we could get pods in, Im sure we could get dye in if White Sox nation gave an effort. IUt would be our first positional starter in almost a decade. We got a lot of help from Red Sox fans that just didn't want to see Jeter in the ASG. It would be a whole s***load harder to get Dye voted into the starting lineup of the All-Star team.
-
I wouldn't use the term "social retards," but a lot of these kids will clearly be f***ed in the long run and not have any friends. You just can't do that to a kid.
-
I hope he does well. Is Jon Garland a child that needs positive reinforcement to go out there and earn his 29 million dollars? No, f*** that. I want him to do well, but he has given me nothing this year to lead me to believe he will.
-
Man, I really hope we can get something of value for this guy before the year is over. We definitely need it.
-
QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) I like how you're rooting for your team there. Haha. Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't notice that I typed, "I hope Garland gives up 7 or more runs." Stupid me, rooting against my team. I should've said something like, "I fully expect Garland to give up 7 or more runs." Saying something like that would just indicate that I don't have faith in Garland to keep a good HR-hitting team in the park at home, rather than showing how much I root against Garland and the White Sox.
-
QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 09:57 PM) You can't say this team isn't showing any heart right now. Before it was a new hero everyday, now theres a new culprit everyday. They just need to get some confidence and playing like they should be. This series with the Rangers I fully expect them to come together better and play solid defense with good pitching and hitting. They know improving vs the Rangers is a must and the Tiger series is going to be huge with the way their playing. Like people have been mentioning, we are not in a horrible spot and we are lucky to be playing like s*** and still have a good record. I fully expect Garland to give up 7 or more runs in his start. Hopefully the offense will be able to flat out outscore Texas in that game.

Bullpen Armageddon White Sox Loser
Milkman delivers replied to klaus kinski's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Alright, let's just accept the terrible bullpen and blackholes at the bottom of the lineup. Apparently, those holes will fix themselves every year from now on since it happened last year. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 09:41 PM) They are playing f***ing horrendous, but even Eck didn't save every game. I'm really not concerned, it's a long season and players are either peaking, getting top peaking, or slumping. Brace yourself but Dye will have a terrible week or two, as will Thome, and everyone else. It's the nature of sports. There's a difference between Dye/Thome and these relievers. Dye and Thome are everyday players that have proven year after year to be consistently good. Relievers are hit or miss, for the most part, and it's pretty normal for them to have career years and then disappear. Politte is not getting any better. It's obvious. Nelson is decent enough, but he's only gonna be in a game for a hitter or two, and he's gonna walk someone for each out he gets. And McCarthy just isn't cut out for the pen. He's been terrible. That many bad relievers just isn't gonna fly.
