  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) When Mantle was a teen, they didn't know a helluva lot about steroids. And, from your story, if he was on them they were prescribed by a doctor. Like I said, my boss told me this story and he was told by his friend who supposedly knows a lot about it. I have no idea what he was taking or anything, but the steroid could help him, whether or not it was prescribed by a doctor.
  2. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) He could not have said anything at all. Interesting, I wonder if it was an anabolic steroid. I also wonder how long he was on them. That's true. I don't know why he said anything, to tell the truth. I'll have to ask my boss about more details. It might be a while, though, since he's usually busy or downtown.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) Its not a lunch...Thats what I asked him about first, we have called him sack lunch since we first saw him do that. But its not a lunch. So it must be band-aids and neosporin for when he gets a cut. (This is all sarcasm, BTW)
  4. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) I read a few interesting things in the paper today. Creatine is banned by MLB, wow didn't know that. Mark B. said Sox players bring in any supplement to the training staff for analysis before they take anything. He said since so many things can make a test go positive, they just analize everything first. He thinks Raffy is clean, FWIW. I guess some over the counter supplements contain very low levels of steroids that are not listed on the labels but would show up on a test. I'm sure he "believes" it. Nobody that's still in baseball is going to say "he is definitely on steroids." They just gotta come off well. On another note, my boss told me yesterday that one of his friends does a lot of research into Mickey Mantle. This guy also reads any book that has anything to do with Mickey that he can find. Apparently, when Mantle was a teenager, he broke his leg (maybe he said arm?). The doctors offered him penicillin or a steroid, and he took the steroid. I have a tough time believing that Mantle was on steroids, but I guess a few people believe it and it somewhat makes sense. Plus, Mantle died because of a bad liver. And yes, I know he was a drunk. Just throwing it out there.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) Do you really want to know why they brought up Adkins? Anyone who knows him or has met him, check out the brown paper sack he brings to the bullpen every game, and ask him whats in it, that will clear it all up for you guys. So the guy brings a lunch to the game. What's the f'n problem with that?
  6. So we're looking at Larry Walker, Randall Simon, and the Crimedog? That'd be sweet if this were 1995. It kind of seems like no-names and older guys with bad contracts are the ones that make it through.
  7. Can someone tell me who some of the bigger names were that have been picked up through waivers?
  8. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 06:15 AM) A little fall out from this past weekend: Just one more reason to hate the Red Sox.
  9. QUOTE(heirdog @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) "This kid" was solid for Ozzie last year and I think the Whitesox brass are simply being loyal and men of their words. They told BMac that he would be the first person up if they needed a starter and he was. They told Adkins that when they needed a bullpen arm and the situation dictated, he would get the call. Well, the earlier situation with Marte out dictated Kevin "Left-handed pitcher and that is about all I am" Walker get the call but now when they simply need another bullpen arm, they are calling up Adkins as they promised. The Jenks call-up was more of KW and Ozzie's drool fantasy over his nasty stuff so when you see someone that you have a woody over do something promising, you bring them up and send the Japanese import packing! I think they tried to increase Adkins trade value by making him a starter again at AAA (and with his Major League experience) but he stunk it up transitioning back to his previous role, so I think they are seeing if he can fill in a long-relief role as needed (i.e. every other start by Contreras). I don't see anything wrong with that. Sure Bajenaru could have gotten the call but I think he will be up in Sept and have a more situational role as he is accustomed to as opposed to long relief. Good job. Man, I really hope Adkins is absolutely solid out of the pen so everyone just shuts the hell up about Baj.
  10. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) nope twins lose, therefor magic # goes down... foxsports.com has it at 43 http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/standings Oh, alright. I could swear somebody on here said it wouldn't go down if the Twins lost because they'd be in 3rd, but I'll take foxsports' word over that. I apologize.
  11. Doesn't it not go down since the Indians are now in 2nd?
  12. Garland should have a few more wins than he does. Let's get him another one and inch him closer to 20 for the season.
  13. QUOTE(winodj @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) It's now official, the Twins have fallen to third place in the AL Central. 15.5 games behind the White Sox .5 games behind Cleveland. Yeah, we're officially in the playoffs now.
  14. QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) wow tough break, too bad, I am all torn up. lets all feel sorry for him beause he beat the s*** out of us for years, barreled over our catcher in a questionable call, said the Whitesox don't scare him anymore without LEE and Maggs. Yea Really tough break. When he is out of baseball or out of our division then I will feel sorry for him, until then I hate the twins and everyone on the Twins. That's classless. You're classless, quickman. You, too, JimH. Seriously, I laugh that he's hurt. I couldn't care less about Torii Hunter.
  15. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) Hopefully this move doesn't come to bite us back in the ass. Yeah, I doubt it will.
  16. Yes. Even with the steroids (which I hate more than most), his numbers are just sick. Not a first balloter anymore, though.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) Heres something for you. What if Palmeiro is released? Is it worth it to pick him up? f*** no?
  18. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) Well, that would be about right... I think if we can maul Toronto and Seattle, take 5 of 6 and increase the division lead to 17 games or so, we can put the final nails in the coffin of our AL Central rivals... after next week the schedule gets brutal so let's bury them now! I've been worrying about them coming back for a long time and even I'm now ready to admit this. They're dead and buried.
  19. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) i really don't think this was the right move. I'm sorry but why not give him a chance to get his s*** straight in Charlotte. John Adkins stinks. Long reliever. We'll hardly see Adkins pitch, I assume.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) Ditto. The day of the hearings before I even read Jose's book I believed him. The book fell into my lap, basically. My girlfriend went to the mall on the day the book was release, so I asked her to pick it up for me. I read it that night and the following day, took about 3 hours because I was so interested and it was an easy read. But, I believed it as soon as I read it. I even checked the stats for Palmeiro, Pudge, and Juan Gone after Canseco was traded to the Rangers. Needless to say, they each had a surge in power.
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Rhode Island, I believe. And that doesn't necessarily make him a Red Sox fan, anyway. I remember this offseason when the Yankees and Red Sox were going after Pavano, I was hearing a lot out around Boston that "Pavano was from Connecticut, so he'd love to play for the Red Sox." I read an SI article about him, turns out he was a life-long Yankee fan.
