Most fans stopped caring about this season months ago......when the fans show apathy towards the team, the team shows apathy towards the game. I don't blame Ozzie for melting down (in fact, I'm glad he did)....however, I can't blame the players for "checking out" when the the majority of the "fan support" did so a few months ago. If we want a winning attitude throughout the organization, it has to exist within the fan base as well.

I'm not even thinking about 2010 until after we win this year's World Series!

I know it would never happen.....but I think the Big Hurt would make an awesome hitting coach!!

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 02:25 PM) It's not as fun to watch at times like this where the Sox have no shot at the playoffs, but it's certainly a lot more relaxing. How do you figure that there's no chance at the playoffs? Granted....the odds are against us, but if we 17-7 over the final 24 games and 6 of those wins are against the Tigers, we are in the postseason. Thats not out of the question. -

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) the whole idea that you believe we HAVE a chance just tickles me. But i envy your un-jaded sense of hope. We have 6 games left against Detroit....even if we go 5-1 in those games, we have a realistic shot. If we could sweep those games, its almost a dead heat. To give up when thats the case....I just don't understand. -

Mark seems to be back to normal today.....he's not throwing a perfect game or giving up 8 runs......he's delivering that "bend don't break" performance that is typical of his career. -

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) really? Of course.....If we don't play really well over this stretch, there's no chance of postseason. -

I'm surprised there isn't more fans here as the Sox start their playoff push. These final 24 games are critical! -
Bartolo is doing some work in commercials while gone from the Sox.....
-
We will miss his bat when the playoffs roll around....no question about it. I just hope we still have enough offense to bring another World Series championship to the south side this season.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) Just when you thought we could turn this season around the bullpen reminds you there's no chance of that happening. Don't worry....Bobby will save it.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) Boo to you, sir. Well, I guess that would be a win. I think Ozzie has Jenks in his fantasy league as well

I hope Jenks can get a save this evening....I need one out of him for my fantasy league.

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) I tend to be an Ozzie supporter, but I get tired of the team being "tight" all the time. Isn't one of Ozzie's talents supposed to be loosening up the clubhouse? Steve makes some good arguments in his article, but I think Ozzie gets 2010 for a full year with these new players. If he doesn't get it done, it will be time to seriously consider a new direction. I really think the fault of the team playing "tight" is not on the manager....but rather the press and the fan base. When the city and the fan base is constantly saying "you suck" over and over, it puts a lot of pressure on the team and they tend to underperform. The greatest example of this is the St Louis Cardinals. Over the years, they've gone through a lot of personnel in the clubhouse. They've been managed by Tony LaRussa for many years (who is far being laid back and loose). However, their fan base has always supported them, always been behind them, and (for the most part) not been critical. This results in players being loose and creating a a good environment (that may players really enjoy playing in). If this team is ever to win another world series, it has to have a "loose" attitude again and become a clubhouse that players enjoy being a part of......however, I don't believe that atmosphere stems from the manager.....I believe it is created more by the fan base and the support (or lack of support) that it shows.

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) I disagree. I remember times it was a LOT more negative around here. Its never been this negative before. I think it was the worst its been earlier this season and its continually gotten badder as the weeks progressed. I don't care how good you are.....nobody is going to perform well in the face of so much "you suck" adversity.
-
Might as well trade him right now.....as soon as he throws a pitch thats not a strike, you'll start hearing "fans" say he sucks and is worthless.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 08:17 PM) watching Alexie at SS this season has been bad for the eyes. And I'm sure comments like these help improve his confidence in playing that position.
-
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) No clutch hitting. Below Mediocre bullpen AT BEST. Terrible defense. This formula will translate to many many lost games!!! Buy this formula now for 105 million!!!!!! This team has definitely bought it because thats all the fans have pitched to it all season long.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) Sin City, This place was different a long time ago. People were critical of players, but there wasnt the "Im done with this team" post after every bad game or outing. I understand where you are coming from, but a lot of people who have a similar attitude to you just dont feel its worth the time to constantly fight the tide. As long as this attitude permeates the fan base, we will never win another world series. You can only hear "you suck" so many times before you buy into it and thats all this team heard all season long. With the attitude of our fan base, I'm amazed this team is over .500 as is.....they overperformed when you face the facts. However, if they were supported day in and day out, they would likely be 20-25 games over .500 at this time (and about ready to clinch a playoff spot)

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) I really like your optimism no matter what but do you relly think any player comes here and reads this crap ? If you don't think players visit this board, you are kidding yourself. I wouldn't be surprised if they even visit this site during the games.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 07:58 PM) We supported them big time. They lost me on the 3-3 bombjob vs. the O's and KC. Still want 'em to win, but the team is a fricking joke. I can't speak for you personally (as I don't analyze every post on this board) but I've seen an incredible amount of negativity on this site all season long (although its peaked recently). I really think this team has the talent to dominate baseball.....but the negativity of this fan base has destroyed the attitude of the team. This team (and almost every team in all sports) needs positive energy to reach its potential and Sox fans as a whole have provided very little of it this season.
-
I don't know how you guys expect this team to play any better.....when they come on this board every day and read comment after comment about how much they suck......how do you expect them to perform? It would be nice once to see White Sox fans actually support the team and give them a boost instead of tearing them apart and saying they have no chance to win.

We need to start showing some support for Jose. As long as we keep perpuating this myth that he can't perform, we are going to get this result. He just needs a confidence boost. I hope that next time he pitches at the Cell....he gets a standing ovation when heading to the mound to start the game. If we can restore his faith, we are more likely to get a guy who pitches like Lamar Hoyt....rather than one who pitches like Jose DeLeon
