QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) I think he passed the "HC material" test this season... The Steelers were on crack to fire him... the reason was just bizarre. Too buddy buddy with Big Ben. WTF is that, why shouldnt the OC be friends with the QB

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) I don't understand why they would do this. I would guess - and perhaps my assumption is wrong - that Gamestop and similar companies actually make more money for developers, especially the big developers with titles that have sequels. There have been several games that I started with a used copy and then later bought the new copy because I liked the franchise so much. I think a lot of it has to do with having a lot of control over the catalog of games as well, and driving the need to buy/rent games back to sony as opposed to gamefly/gamestop/blockbuster(are they still around????)

So lets kick this thing off with a little rumor nugget about the upcoming Playstation console: http://kotaku.com/5972787/sony-patent-coul...ext-playstation So, two things I have read rumor wise about this console is 1: it will not be backwards compatible with PS3(and will force you to get those games on the PS Network) and 2: it will destroy the used game market with playstation. If this above patent comes to fruition, your game will only work with your console. No going to friends houses with your games, no renting. Your console, thats it.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 11:40 AM) While I would normally agree, I think Carmichael's situation is different. With Payton out this year, Carmichael called the plays and led the NFL's 2nd ranked offense (3rd in points). So, we know he can actually lead a successful offense. Again, is that Carmichael or is he just letting Brees do his thing with a little push here and there?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 11:03 AM) It could be bad though. If you go too wide and can't make up your mind, the top guys could come off the board. That said, I'd have to imagine he has his idea as to who his top candidates will be and their is no harm interviewing as long as you move swiftly. To me these are the guys I'd be dissapointed if Emery didn't have a conversation with them: 1. Holmgren 1b. Cowher (probably won't even interview but you better damn well call his agent and ask) 2. Reid (looks like they won't chat) 3. Gruden (not sure I'd hire him, but should at least reach out and have a conversation) 4. Mike McCoy (that is happening) 5. Bill O'Brien (really really good candidate; not sure you can get him but have to try to have the convo) 6. Shanny (like him a lot) Should probably also reach out to the top OC candidates out their as well (not mentioned above). E.g,. Clements, Carmichael. Pretty sure Mike Shanahan said his coaches arent to interview until after their playoff run is over, and that usually pushes those guys way to the back of the line.

One thing you can say, Emery is casting a wide net. Every day you hear new names mentioned being called in for interviews. Exciting to say the least

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 10:03 AM) no doubt that some of these offensive issues are what plagued the bears this year. for the past 3 years the bears have run offensive schemes that simply require good pass blocking from the offensive line. Both Martz's offense and Tice's were predicated on a more vertical passing game, down the field, deeper drop backs. for an team with a bad offensive line, there must be adaptability in using the quick hitter to the middle of the field (and emery said as much in his press conference). The only time I really recall the play calling changing in favor of quick 3 step drops is the Dallas game when they had Omiyale playing LT, then Martz went back to his old ways. IIRC, that Dallas game took a turn for the better when Cutler hit a couple quick slants over the middle that made the defense stop pinning their ears back

Holmgrens record looks remarkably Gruden-like after leaving the Packers if you factor in the last 3 years of Browns fail

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 09:51 AM) I just find it funny for all the people who blast Lovie's record look at Gruden and see something totally different when after he won the SB with a roster he had little in constructing, he was a below average coach (45-51) with zero playoff wins, and the excuse they use for Gruden's failure is Gruden himself. Top that off with he's been out of the game 4 years, it doesn't seem like a guy you would want to throw millions at unless you want to make fans happy because the guy spazzes out on the sideline. And it's not like he would sign on as a head coach and have less of a say in personnel decisions than Lovie and Mike Tice did, something that people point out was his downfall. Who is blasting Lovies record here Dick? It was time for Lovie to go, he left with almost a +20 W/L, but was not getting to the playoffs. Ok, lets do this, instead of you complaining about what other people want for head coach, who do YOU want?

I wonder if Pioli has his bags packed

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) Johnson was around for a couple of years after he won the SB. Brian Griese had a decent year there as did Chris Simms one season. His last 6 seasons after the SB win were bad. He did make the playoffs twice but lost in the first round both times. He also was under .500 several times. Every criticism that can be laid on Lovie in the 6 years since the Bears went to the SB can be said about Gruden during his last 6 years in Tampa. If Lovie ignored the offense, then if Gruden thinks he can win with Gradkowski, or Garcia on his last legs as you put it, he was ignoring reality as well. Why would this be any different? If Emery is in charge of the personnel, how come Lovie is getting blamed for the lack of talent on the offensive line? Emery had nothing to do with the Offensive line currently assembled. NOTHING. As he said in his press conference, according to stats inc, not one OL in last years draft graded out higher than anyone in this years offensive line, so it isnt as if he could have drafted a savior and fixed it in one season. Look, you dont like Gruden. I get it. His first 5 years were far better than his last 6. The end.

State trying to make sperm donor pay child support
Kyyle23 replied to BigSqwert's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 08:58 AM) why couldn't the donor have a contract drawn up and notarized at the time of donation? if state law doesnt recognize the donation outside of the normal medical channels, does it really matter if it is notarized? -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 08:38 AM) But that goes against the claim that Gruden took ho hum players and made them stars. If you are going to give him all the credit for Gannon and Johnson, he has a lot of blame coming. If he had the same results but Lovie's sideline demeanor, which I read described as looking like he's listening to smooth jazz on the sideline, no one would even talk about him. It's the end result that matters, not that your coach might have an annuerism on the sideline. The fact that he is the overwhelming choice among Ditkaphiles is a pretty good reason for Emery to cross him off the list. I wouldnt say Gannon and Johnson were ho hum before Gruden got to them. They both were pretty good QBs, he just took them to another level. Bruce Gradkowski was never at their level at any point. Jeff Garcia was on his last legs. I know his record after a good run wasnt that great, and i dont want to get into a long meaningless argument with you right now, but you are discrediting him far too much.

State trying to make sperm donor pay child support
Kyyle23 replied to BigSqwert's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 08:13 AM) And if he did this kind of donation 100 times? He better hope that the other 99 women arent on the hook for welfare. And that his lawyer is good -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 08:03 AM) What happened the final 6 years of Gruden's coaching career? He didn't win one playoff game. And the offensive guru's teams were ranked in the bottom half of the NFL offensively. He's overrated. His sideline act, much like a certain coach of a certain team from a certain town than begins with a C, ends in an O and has HICAG in the middle, makes people think he's better than he is. In one of the Chicago papers a writer was saying just how bad Cutler's fundamentals according to NFL scouts have become. Supposedly they are now worse than ever. I'm sure some of it could be instantly corrected with a better line. If the Bears are willing to spend money, Holmgren should be the hire. He corraled Favre, he might be the only one who can coral Cutler. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that in Oakland and the first couple years in Tampa, there was a GM doing the personnel job for him(in Tampa he was handed a team). Then he won the superbowl and all the sudden got personnel control and the teams went down the crapper. It goes back to our earlier discussion about Coaches getting control over personnel and how it rarely works out if ever. Gruden is a very good example of that.

State trying to make sperm donor pay child support
Kyyle23 replied to BigSqwert's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Tuna @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 07:40 AM) It's the state suing him, not the mother. Right, because they want to force him to pay child support so she doesnt need state aid. If the situation with her has become so bad that the state is trying to force me to pay for a child, then I just became a surprise dad and its time to invest in that relationship personally as well as financially. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 07:47 AM) I think that the Bears have to accept that at this point in his career, one of Cutler's flaws, perhaps his biggest flaw, is how he deals with pressure. He has no ability whatsoever to do so. He can't avoid it, he doesn't use his feet, his body has been made into a concussion prone one, his decision making is slow, and his arm motion is slow, all of which combine to generate extra pressure if the line doesn't hold. Rodgers responds to pressure by getting the ball out quicker, Cutler responds to pressure by getting pissed at his line. It drives me nuts, but I can't change that and the GM can't change that. That means the GM's only 2 options would be...switching QB's, which is a lot harder said than done, or making sure Cutler doesn't face the same kind of pressure Rodgers does. Disagree on both. Hell, just the last game they were praising his ability to get out move away from pressure. The problem is he hates throwing it away and that brings a lot of unwarranted sacks. But then there are the games like against the Giants where it doesnt matter how fast his feet are or how fast the decision was, he was going to get killed.

State trying to make sperm donor pay child support
Kyyle23 replied to BigSqwert's topic in The Filibuster
What a terrible situation for the child. First, the parents break up within a year, then on state aid, now looking for parental support from a parent that thought he had no paternal liability. Hell, if I was the Dad I would countersue for full custody. F*** her -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 05:42 AM) Good point. One of the things Emery stressed in his presser was that he wants a coach to sell him on how he can win with THIS roster, and obviously that means he wants to hear how we can be successful with Jay Cutler, and not necessarily Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, or Peyton Manning. It's almost a catch-22 though, because a lot of the coordinators Emery will interview will be from teams with elite quarterbacks. That is one good sell that McCoy has. He made it work with Orton, Tebow and Manning.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:19 AM) I'm generally with you on that point. He could be great, but his experience is far less convincing given their HC. Hell, not only their HC but their QB. Brees is a machine.

you would think Corbett would leave it alone, considering there is more than a few whispers that he knew about it when it was going on

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 12:07 PM) I don't know how the Bears could afford Long without cutting Peppers. i think cutting Peppers is a reality, he has a 4 million dollar cap hit this season.

Ha, Pioli didnt get a reprieve, merely a stay of execution
