  1. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) Really. The Peavy-to-Sox trade came out of no where in the final 5 minutes of the trade deadline. Yeah after Rios was put on waivers, people (including myself), had a good idea it was the Sox who claimed him, but at that point he was already claimed, so it's not like Kenny claimed him after the media and Sox fans thought they should. He made the claim, THEN we speculated. Peavy was almost acquired in May, it was the exact same thing in July. Sure, we didnt expect KW to go after Peavy again, but that doesnt mean the transaction wasnt previously discussed. You can split hairs all you want, both of these moves were broken down in detail in the media before they happened. and the time frame wasnt the issue, Vance Law said "when was the last time the media speculated on a trade before it happened" and both of these transactions were speculated in the media before they happened.
  2. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) But not talked actively about them going to the White Sox. yes, this was discussed a ton in the media. Especially Peavy in May. And everyone knew KW claimed Rios, the only question was whether there would be compensation going to the Blue Jays or if the Jays would just send Rios and his contract.
  3. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) I'll believe it if I see it, I don't expect to see Dunn coming here. When was the last time we added a player through trade or free agency that was actively talked about in the media before it happened? When there were articles saying Kenny is in talks with team x to get player z. If anything this seems like deliberate obfuscation to raise leverage with other targets. $6 mil and top prospect(s) for a 3 month rental seems extremely not sensible. If it included signing him to an extension, it makes more sense. Also, making a lot of sense would be signing Jim Thome this winter for $1.5 mil for the entire season, as he's putting up a .927 OPS. Ummmm, Jake Peavy and Alex Rios last year.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 09:16 AM) Didn't Arizona trade for him while in the NL West race in 2008? Didnt Arizona fall out of the race around July because Webb started to fall apart?
  5. One thing I am curious about is how Dunn were to react if he were put into a division race. Some guys just take it to another level, others just wilt. Dunn has never really been on a team that has been in a race
  6. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) Is anyone here concerned about Dunn's strike outs and decreasing walk rate? Plus the .276 batting average is the highest of his career. Dunn is what he is, and the guy has always had a high K rate. The decreasing walk total is worth noting, but I would be interested to see the pitches he is getting when he has Quentin/Konerko/Rios around him in the lineup as opposed to Zimmerman and Josh Willingham. You arent acquiring Dunn to hit for a high average, you are acquiring Dunn to hit the ball over the light tower
  7. QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 07:41 AM) Via Twitter: Buster_ESPN: The Nats have reached crossroads with Adam Dunn:Sign him or trade him. If a trade, he White Sox are a great fit; Sun-Times says talks began. Dunn as an everyday DH and occasional 1b or RF looks like the missing piece to me. Olney* misspelled in the byline here, my bad. fixed
  8. QUOTE (maki @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) He's had a few 3 game hit streaks where he's shown similar "life" yet still looks uncomfortable and overmatched. He did do something new yesterday in managing to make 2 outs with one K. Even at DH, Ozzie seems to believe there's some downside to replacing a .200 hitter. There simply isn't, Dayan isn't going to go in there and hit .150 over significant ABs. that was a bulls*** call, he didnt impede Soto's throw. Soto barely touched him on the followthrough
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 08:21 PM) What about a trade for Zambrano where the cubs would take on Linebrink+Teahan and a decent prospect or two and cover around half of his salary. He could be send into the bullpen for the year and figure out the rest next year. Am I crazyy? You are crazyy for thinking the Cubs would make that trade, yes
  10. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) that rumor is probably true The Freddy part of the rumor, yes
  11. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) Actually, he wants nothing to do with it. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=300626104 It was a joke referencing the Blackhawks postgame celebration.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 05:14 AM) Going into the final day of interleague: AL 125 NL 113 The Sox are 15-2. You take that away, and the rest of the AL is down 110-111. I think the Red Sox have a pretty good record vs the NL as well....
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 08:51 AM) This game worries me. Winning the BP cup is such a huge distraction Rumor is that Pauly was out until 6AM drinking with Freddy at Harry Carays.
  14. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 06:18 AM) Who's going to take Deng's contract and allow for the Bulls to have enough cap savings to target 3 max FA's which is exactly what Miami is doing? http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baske...,0,520664.story TIFWIW
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 08:45 AM) I am pretty sure the gun was about 2 mph fast last night. I haven't seen Garcia hit 91 consistantly, nor have I seen Thornton hitting 99, and Putz 98. that still puts Putz at a consistent 95-96, and I will take that with his control and breaking pitches. And I want to say, Garcia looked like he had extra life on his fastball last night, I wasnt surprised when it said 91 because the first thing I thought when I saw him throwing a fastball was "damn, Freddy looks like he has a little extra tonite"
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 08:41 AM) Thornton did not look particularly comfortable in the 9th last night so hopefully Bobby comes back soon. In all fairness, he did face 3 pretty good righthander power hitters, which is a little bit out of the norm for him. But right now, I want Putz as the closer. He is throwing some serious heat(last night staying at 97-98 with his FB) and his splitter is just diving. If it were up to me, Santos and Thornton would get the 8th, Pena the 7th, and let Putz close. Hopefully Williams and Linebrink are not necessary QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jun 27, 2010 -> 08:38 AM) Any ideas on what happened? Hopefully he doesn't miss a week. Who would be the logical call up? Bereavement leave is normally when a family member passes away, isnt it?
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) Yeah he really needs to be sent down. Stupid to not let him play somewhere. Unless they've discovered he's really 25 or 26 I don't get it. It's kind of frustrating. He should be playing third five days a week, Omar the other two and Omar fill in for Beckham some other days at second. ummmmmmWhat? what would his age have to do with anything?
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Makes sense. I said to a friend yesterday. Zambrano needs to be waiting in the clubhouse for the team after the game and issue some tearful apology.Instead, he goes to dinner with Ozzie and everybody. He's another guy that let the money take over his personality. This guy is a cancer and needs to be out of baseball. He was told to leave the park by the manager and general manager so an incident with his teammates would be avoided
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 26, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) He's been the worst pitcher in baseball. I didn't say that I thought he was worth saving just that Coop does. Sustaining a mid 2 WHIP over 20+ innings is next to impossible yet Randy's found a way. He's had 6 outings where he's allowed 2 or more baserunners and retired at most 1 batter. This is an unbelievable stat: Randy Williams has made 25 appearances this year, 15 of them were for less than 1 inning of work and yet he's had only TWO outings all year in which he did not allow a baserunner and both of those came within the first 2 weeks of the season. He's allowed at least 2 baserunners in 16 of his 25 outings. Just ignoring his overall awful inherited runners numbers, more simply: Randy has inherited at least 1 baserunner in 12 outings this season, he's allowed at least 1 inherited runner to score in 9 of those 12 outings. Randy Williams has been charged with 13 ER allowed this season and on top of that he's allowed another 13 inherited runners to score. =EPIC FAIL
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) Average score: 5.18 to 2.71 4 shutouts 7 games with 1 or fewer runs allowed 11 games with 3 or fewer runs allowed and the best stat, 8 games gained in the standings(and counting)
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 08:56 PM) Didn't Bartlett make the last out Vs Buehrle? I believe you are correct, I was just thinking the same thing. And it was also a groundout to SS
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 10:58 AM) Fukudome would be a good fit. Fukudome is in the middle of his summer swoon. He hit .344 in april, .253 in may, and he is hitting .205 in June. http://espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?playerId=28948 No thanks And I was just reading that Carl Crawford is complaining about a sore shoulder, so thats not a good thing for a rental to have
  23. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 25, 2010 -> 09:00 AM) Yep? YEP?? THAT'S IT??? yep
