QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 11:20 AM) One of those guys don't belong in that sentence. If he didn't get hurt, he'd easily be the MVP favorite right now. I think this time he is spending on the DL could be explained as a dropoff in Minnesota's production, not necessarily Morneau specifically

QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 11:04 AM) Maggs' injury is the type of event that could functionally end his career. Think about it. He's the same age as Dye. And about just as mobile... before the injury. Pretty good chance he'll be relegated to DH duties from now on. So, what's the market going to be in 2011 for a 37 year old right-handed DH coming off a serious injury? If he's not willing to take a serious pay cut he could find himself in the same position as Dye next year. The one good thing Maggs still has going for him is that he is an amazing hitter. Dye fell off offensively so hard last year that he couldnt find the job he wanted

If you haven't seen the sfx breakdown for the BBC Attila the Hun film he directed, here it is. Unreal. I was reading about Monsters, they went to Brazil and Peru with the two stars and a crew of 5, and just paid extras where they found them and shot the film. That is truly amazing to me. I am starting to really like the shoestring budget sci-fi movies that have been coming out recently(Cloverfield, District 9) and this looks like it will fall into that mold as well

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 09:51 AM) Did the Tigers catch a huge break with that Ordonez injury? Didn't he have another vesting options in his contract for like $18 million, was hoping that was exercised to put total pressure on the Tigers. They did catch a break for financial considerations going forward. I am curious to see if they stand pat now given their recent glut of injuries or if they still attempt to make a big trade like what has been discussed(Lowell, Haren, etc).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:05 AM) I agree. I have zero fear of them, especially with this run of injuries (Ordonez, Inge, Zumaya, Guillen). I don't know how big Dombrowskis' cajones are, but they could make a big bounce back next year if they turned into sellers for some of their guys to restock the system. Plus with the salary they are clearing anyway, they could hit the free agency market hard still. also went on the DL today with a calf injury(big surprise)

I watched the replay of Magglios slide, I couldnt tell where he did it or how he did it. He didnt even really look like he was in pain when the camera zoomed in on him

Jeremy Renner confirmed as Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo confirmed as Bruce Banner/Hulk at Comicon tonite in an Avengers sit-down. They both were announced as their characters along with Robert Downey Jr(Ironman), Chris Evans(Captain America), Scarlett Johannsen(Black Widow), Samuel L Jackson(Nick Fury) and Chris Hemsworth(Thor). QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) Didn't like that trailer as much as the previous one but still awesome. The light bikes are going to look amazing in Imax 3d. I thought that the digital effect of making Jeff Bridges look 30 years younger was amazing in that trailer. I cannot wait to see it

ouch, the Tigers are getting the DL bug. Zumaya, Ordonez and Inge is not easy to overcome

I remember the knock on Owens was bad routes to the ball, like seriously straight across to the ball instead of rounding it and giving himself a chance if the ball carried. His speed definitely gave him a chance to make up for it but there was some inexperience there that hurt him badly

QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) That is the right mindset though, not Byrd obviously, but getting a SP who is in the final year of his deal who can put up .500 type numbers and be reasonable cost wise for 1/3 of the season remaining. So that brings it to Dave Bush, Doug Davis, Brian Moehler, Kevin Millwood, Brett Myers, Nate Robertson, Ben Sheets,Livan Hernandez or Ted Lilly realistically as guys who could help. The rest of the guys in final years of the deal are either on contending teams or are real, real, real bad. Then you have guys like Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz, etc, who could help for 2 months if those type of guys really wanted to come back and could still be effective. I still think keeping Hudson and trading for Adam LaRoche who could be dealt for soooo much less makes the most sense at this point. Pedro announced he has no plans to pitch this year, maybe next year

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 01:31 AM) You sir, can't read. I said IF that is what you are saying it's f***ing stupid. So you better re-read it. The more I read your incorrect accusation on this matter the more it f***ing pisses me off. I didn't "MISINTERPRET" what he was saying as you write, I ASKED him to clarify. Then I said, if that is what you were saying then it's f***ing stupid. BIG DIFFERENCE. I RESPOND to posts about Jenks. I repeat I respond to posts about Jenks. I said weeks ago I was not against closer by committee. Jenks blew 2 of 3 saves. Yes he did. Before that he was lights out. Those are facts. Your accusations on me are offbase. Please learn how to read. I support this site as much or more than anybody. I sent in my 50 bucks. I don't know if that's a normal donation, cheap or generous. But I sent it in. How many others did?? And you are also out of line saying I am on a Jenks "crusade." How is standing up for a guy being on a crusade. You find a post I make where I'm not RESPONDING to somebody else's post on Jenks. People act like I BRING IT UP. I don't. I respond. You sir also need to learn how to read if you have to ask chw42 if he is talking about Bobby when it was pretty obvious he wasnt. Saying "If you meant (blah blah) then that is pretty f***ing stupid but if you didnt well that is fine"(not verbatim) isnt a good way to argue about anything. It is baiting. It is a crusade when you feel you need to defend him to every single person, you dont have to respond to everything that is written. Letting some of it go would go a long ways towards your conversation on this site getting better and not starting stupid quibbles out of nothing. Dont even talk about donations, it isnt even a part of this subject and doesnt make you a better poster than anyone else.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 12:11 AM) It's going to be interesting to see how long they wait for Kotsay to spring back to life. I am crossing my fingers and hoping and praying that they wait for no longer than 6 days from this moment.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 11:35 PM) I disagree. I just disagree. I respond to other people's posts. What is so hard to understand about that? And your post was as vicious as any I've ever had. Well maybe vicious is the wrong word but you are calling me out harder than I ever call anybody out. I asked him a question to see if he was saying Bobby would be the reason we didn't win the division. What's wrong with that? You question everybody that has anything to say about Bobby, everytime, without fail. Just accept the fact that even though the guy was on a World Series winning team, he is NOT ABOVE REPROACH. and dont get all teary eyed with me acting like I am being vicious when you just called someones post pretty f***ing stupid because you misinterpreted what he was saying. I have left you alone for quite some time because I was sick of going around the same stupid arguments back and forth, but your little Jenks crusade is getting out of control and you refuse to face the facts no matter how they are presented to you. Time for you to just let the comments other people are making slide and accept the fact that not everyone thinks that Jenks is the best there ever was because of 2005.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) That topic is going to explode the next time Jenks enters a game me thinks and it won't be me starting the conversation good or bad, It'll be me responding to a lot of the conversation, though. The problem is that you are forcing it into the conversation now, which is total bulls***. Asking "chw are you trying to build a case where if and when we lose the division we can all simply say, "It's Bobby Jenks' fault!"" followed by "Not flaming. Just asking" followed by "Thats pretty f***ing stupid" is starting a argument where there was none. How about you quit feeling like you have to defend every iota of Bobby Jenks being and start discussing other topics without feeling like you need to ask if people are subtly taking shots at Bobby. Or even better, being able to admit when Bobby f***s up and saying "You know what? He sucked tonite" and leave it at that. There are overreactionary people that feel like a few bad outings dooms a player, and there are overreactionary people on the other end of the spectrum such as you that can never admit when a bad outing happens. Then there are the gray area people such as myself who can see the bigger picture and can understand that at some point either we have to s*** or get off the pot with jenks. The problem that I have with everything you have been saying is that everyone that doesnt worship the ground that Jenks walks on(such as yourself) is grouped into one big "insane messageboard people" list by you. If you havent noticed, Ozzie is starting to get a bit queasy with his closer as well and the message is out there that if he cannot get it done, there are two other big arms in the bullpen that can.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) The thing with Quentin is that he used to be good in RF when he could still run. After his foot injuries, he's been absolutely dreadful. I understand that, but at the same time you are saying that Luke Scott couldnt be any worse in right than Quentin, and the guy hasnt played there but 37 games since 08 according to Kalapse. We just dont know if he couldnt be any worse,
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) The only thing I know is that he can't be worse than Quentin. Good enough for me. Im pretty sure there were a lot of people saying the same thing in regards to Quentin over Dye last year.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:48 PM) This is not a rip on any poster. I think it's cool to see Sox fans rip some other players besides ones on the Sox ... and those would be ones rumored to come to us in a trade. A good way to finally see rips of other players is to ask if we might want the guy. No, its a rip on all of us Greg. Get off your fanboy high horse

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:11 AM) Who invented the save? Whoever did should get a smack to the head for coming up with such a horrible concept. I dont think it is horrible as much as it is imperfect. And baseball has a few imperfect stats that are propped up as if they are the end-all be-all
