  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 11:48 AM) This is nonsense. The players are just as much to blame for this mess as the front office and Hoiberg. Losing to teams like Charlotte and Brooklyn is inexcusable. I don't care if Hoiberg's rotations are bad or he doesn't use TO's appropriately or whatever. The Bulls' roster is heads and shoulders above those teams no matter who they put out. Do i want them to act like professionals? sure. But it isnt the first time an organization has had turmoil in the front office that bled into the court/field product, and they are acting like it bothers them. San Francisco 49ers last season was pretty similar. Maybe i was wrong to say I dont blame them, it would be better to say this doesnt surprise me
  2. at this point I dont really blame the players for not caring. last year was a front office/coach divorce that was extremely public, and they put in what looks like a puppet figurehead who is starting to look out of his league. Im not gonna say it cannot get better, but this is a s*** show right now
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 09:16 AM) IMO the best sign he might waive that is that it took him what, 2 weeks of the season to complain about not getting the ball enough? He's playing for his last contract in the season right before the cap explodes. If someone wants to get him the ball more, he'll go. Oh he will waive it. He said after the last game that "My career is winding down and I want to play for a team that wants to win a championship" The guy has already told media he is opting out after this season, he sees that this is pretty toxic and isnt looking promising.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 05:58 AM) And that's find. Don't explain PER, but don't just say what everyone else did. "Butler's not as good as Leonard." Four others said it. Why do you have to? Im sorry, next time I will consult you about what I am allowed to comment about. Anything else across the board that you have a problem with? Im taking notes
  5. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:25 PM) Instead of piling on, why not just answer the question he asked a post above you? I'm no mathematician, i never mentioned anything about per and I couldn't break it down. All I know is Leonard has been a far better player on a far better team for his career, and when I read about Leonard functioning within the Spurs he gets nothing but high praise. Butler had a great year last year and has done nothing but improve since he got into the NBA, but Leonard is next level when I watch them play, he knows his role on his team and excels within his team. But thanks for calling me to the carpet, you can explain per if you would like to.
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) Would it help to know Jermaine Dye had the best year of his career with the Sox at age 32 ? I was just looking at Dye's stats from age 32 on . He had some of his best years with the Sox. One of the few guys who was hurt a lot then gets to us and gets healthy and hits more HR for the Sox then he ever had before. We always hear " this guy will hit more HR at the Cell "but we never see it actually happen very much. Even in his last year in the majors at age 35 he hit 27 HRs and a .793 OPS and .340 OBP. Dye had 44 HR's in age 32 season. , 120 RBI , 1.006 OPS, .386 OBP, .662 SLG. , OPS+ 151 Dude could still hit when he retired ( or nobody wanted him). His fielding fell of a cliff if I remember it right . Lost a couple of steps at 33 rebounded a little at 34 but still bad ,then totally lost it a lot more at 35. It was the weirdest forced/chosen retirement I can recall. Iirc he didn't want to take less than a certain amount, and I think he didn't want to DH
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:12 PM) Do you really want a separate thread on John Smoltz replacing Harold Reynolds with FOX? The main reason I included that was because Trayce Thompson is one of the targets...once again, do we want a separate thread about that topic alone (interest in a former White Sox player by another team seemingly being of interest to MOST SoxTalk posters)? Should I start a separate Jackie Bradley, Jr. thread? Trayce Thompson Trayce also big time bloodlines as the son of former NBA player Mychal Thompson and the brother of Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson. Thompson made his Major League debut in 2015, appearing in 44 games with the White Sox before being dealt to the Dodgers this winter in the three-team Todd Frazier deal. Thompson was a second-round pick by the White Sox and has shown a nice blend of power and speed, with 20/20 potential as a centerfielder. However he has also shown little plate discipline, striking out 26% of the time with a 6.6% walk rate. He hit well once he was promoted to Chicago this year, hitting .295/.363/.533 in 133 plate appearances with five home runs. His walk rate surged with the White Sox to 9.6% while he cut down on his strikeouts, although there are small sample size issues. Thompson is 24 years old, so his ceiling is not high, but he has power and speed, which the Royals will love, and his right-handed bat could fit in the lineup well. Why don't you just make a thread called Caulfield where you can talk about whatever you want, since staying on topic in ANY thread is just impossible for you
  8. Lmao, butler is better than a finals MVP and reigning defensive MVP. Ok
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) Recent news/rumors John Smoltz is replacing Harold Reynolds on FOX National Broadcasts... Jackie Bradley, Jr., might be in play KC potentially targeting Trayce Thompson, Van Slyke, Kiki Hernandez and Alex Guerrero from LAD for relief help (Herrera, Hochevar, etc.)...as well as CarGo http://www.royalsreview.com/2015/12/16/103...ing-alex-gordon Most recent article on the Royals' negotiations or lack thereof with Gordon It's amazing that in a thread about a Royals free agent where you are encouraged to talk about that specific free agent, you manage to not talk about that free agent and instead talk about other players the Royals are targeting. And John Smoltz
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 06:39 PM) Spoilers? It's not a new story lol Wait do they get CTE at the end!?!? No, don't tell me
  11. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) What about the Spurs? Put Butler on their team and they're still a championship contender and he's their best player to boot. Lmao, no. Butler is a poor mans Kawhi Leonard, and the Spurs have Kawhi Leonard
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) I believe you but that's ridiculous for a player like Gordon. Man, NFL teams have it made. They get to cut guys and those 8 year deals mean nothing. They don't have to pay up like baseball teams do. Think of all the guys the Sox would have just cut. LaRoche, Dunn, Melky, Rios. yea thats not really true, because the NFL teams have salary caps. Cap hits mean something
  13. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 10:56 AM) Sources: #WhiteSox showing interest in Alex Gordon, among others. Gordon appeals for several reasons: Knows division, LHH, defense, makeup. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/679344296647131140 Question is whether #WhiteSox could pay Gordon enough to pry him from #Royals. Team would be left with Melky, LaRoche, Garcia at RF/DH. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/679344301374087169 #WhiteSox could trade one of those players - preferably LaRoche, who will earn $13M in ’16. Wouldn’t be easy with Alvarez, Carter among FAs. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/679344306247876608 caulfield are you ok with the thread title now
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 08:15 AM) Actually their boss is JR's son . I know someone who knows him quite well. He obviously respects and admires his father but has different ideas about things. Whether he would fire Gar/Pax, I have no idea, but I do know a full house and making the playoffs doesn't trump falling short. The problem I have is it seems the only people who thought swapping out Thibs for the Mayor would or at least could lead to the promised land with basically the same roster, work in the Bulls front office. The hatchet job they did on Thibs when they let him go was unnecessary and disgusting, and they are looking like bigger fools than ever now. Jeff Van Gundy has material for years. Come on DA, lets be real here. Jerry is still owner of the Bulls, Michael may be President/COO, but as long as JR is alive things will continue to be done his way. When Thibs was let go, it wasnt Michael writing that scathing letter that ripped Tom out the door, it was Jerry. The guy is still in the building
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:34 AM) The thread title definitely needs to be changed since there's almost nothing concrete linking Gordon and the White Sox... Certainly shouldn't be contributing to anyone getting their hopes up when there's almost no smoke at all. The tweets quoted say otherwise but thank you for your concern
  16. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/mike...als-in-mix.html Interesting if he could stay healthy
  17. his coherent words will probably be "Wait, I said WHAT??!?"
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:03 AM) Well then, maybe he'll say something coherent on Feb. 29. let us mark our calenders and check
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) Phil Rogers is drunk 24/7/365
  20. Why do people keep asking when Garpax is getting fired as if they don't know who is Garpaxs boss? They aren't getting fired, people. The team still plays in front of a mostly full crowd, they have been in the playoffs every year for a long streak, Jerry don't give a f***
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) So do GarPax get fired after this season? Hoiberg looks overmatched Ha, this is funny
  22. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 11:13 AM) Omar: The proof I have is to look at the scores from 2000 through 2004. How often did you see the Sox score seven, nine runs in a game then get two or none the next few days? I also remember many of those games came (and still do) against garbage, mediocre, soft tossing pitchers who make the Sox hitters look like complete buffoons (Bruce Chen immediately comes to mind...) "Home Run or Nothing" attitude, philosophy leads to those swings in my opinion. I actually still remember focusing in on that after a particularly strong rant from Bill Melton on the post game show after the Sox were handled in Texas by a particularly bad pitcher, I think it was in 2003. Melton blistered Sox hitters for making no adjustments against a soft tossing guy instead simply trying to hit "eight run home runs..." Like you say home runs are needed, I agree but to me the Sox have yet to recapture the balance that helped lead them to a World Series title. More "adjustments" to that attitude are needed including for God's sake getting some guys who can actually catch a baseball and execute fundamentals (which falls directly on the manager and his staff in my mind, that's what spring training is for...) Mark Your proof is a four year stretch of home run numbers for one team in the middle of the steroid era?
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) Jesus this Butler thing is the most overblown, 24 hour media circus story I can remember in a while. For you, everything is the most overblown thing ever
  24. ODB ear-holing Norman was a completely different level of ridiculous.
  25. Harvey looked way too embarrassed for this to be a publicity stunt that he was complicit in
