QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:00 AM) I feel like I just jumped into a time machine Welcome to Soxtalk! QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:07 AM) I've seen lots of "never watching the Reds again" comments on Twitter from this trade... They must've really liked Frazier. hometown kid, homegrown kid, little league WS hero, HR derby winner. They absolutely loved him -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 07:49 AM) Well, a week ago it was imaginary to acquire Frazier without giving up Anderson OR Fulmer. Granted, the double signing would be a lot less likely than the White Sox more or less standing pat from here on out...but that's also a realistic possibility. It's still a bit difficult to believe they're going to shell out their first $100+ million dollar contract. yea not even close to the same thing

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 07:36 AM) That's just not going to happen, if for no other reason than Cabrera being forced to DH and wasting another $13 million or so on LaRoche's deal. Sure, if they were to spend $200-250 million, what's another $13 million I guess. There's that school of improbable thought. And certainly going five years on Cespedes and six plus on Upton carries a pretty fair amount of risk. These opt-out deals seem to be the norm at the moment, but that also would mean having to replace at at even higher cost an outperforming asset. Still, three years for Gordon and four for Cespedes would be all that should be guaranteed. Nevertheless, there's no conceiveable way it's Upton AND another one of those two, unless it's Ian Desmond in a Ben Zobrist swing man role where he becomes primary SS if Saladino flops or plays OF, 2b, DH and maybe 3b as well. That's from the lose one pick might as well blow them both school of thought from last year...obviously with future consequences for the farm system being damned. Caulfield, everyone knows that wont happen. Thats why they said "Imagine...." you dont have to explain why a ridiculous imaginary idea is ridiculous and imaginary

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) Well there certainly is a fringe minority who is complaining that he left. But let's review the actual facts. Bo Ryan said at the end of last year he was retiring. He wanted Greg Gard to take over (Gard has been his assistant for over 20 years and has turned down HC jobs to stay with Bo.) Barry Alvarez said that he had to do a search for the HC job pursuant to Wisconsin law and could not just give Gard the job (which is ironic since Barry gave Bielema the job without a search.) Gard's father was diagnosed with cancer and Bo felt that it would be detrimental to Gard's chances at a becoming the next HC so he agreed to postpone his retirement. It sucks that he wants to retire, but that is his decision, same as if a player wants to retire. Its not like Bo is going to coach for another team, hes done. There have been a few CBB writers that have called in to the Score that have said he did this so Gard would get it, and Alvarez isnt really too keen on giving it to Gard. He planned on retiring over the summer and letting Gard have it but Alvarez said he wanted to do a coaching search so Bo did this. Dont know how true it is, just what I have heard

just because one team said they didnt want Laroche doesnt mean its completely over and he is untradeable forevs. teams swap bad contracts, sometimes players move on

QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) Come on man, this is so intellectually dishonest. Trayce is not a .900 OPS guy. Minor league career OPS is .747. BUT HEY HE DID IT IN SEPTEMBER SO THAT MAKES IT FACT GOING FORWARD -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) He's an all star. We have someone to root for in home run derby. Meanwhile, the team and org. got worse. The Sox had stabilized 3B. The weaknesses were OF defense and a mediocre bullpen. So what did they do? Traded a OF who plays impeccable D and hit nearly .900 OPS. Brilliant! They traded a pitcher who could have been an actual stopper, of which there is exactly one. They cry about lack of hitting, so they traded an IF who can hit!!!! Oh, and they crowded out yet another young IF. 2B wasn't an issue. We had great D there from a YOUNG player (which, I know, is a negative on the Sox). This org's disdain for young players is beyond belief. The irony of course is that at least 2 of those guys, if not all 3, will make the 92 win Dodgers 25 man. But they weren't good enough for the 25 man of Robbie and Cooper's 76 win Sox. expected erroneous post is expectedly erroneous -

QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:46 AM) True, they sold high, and that's why I'm not complaining more. But a guy coming up and immediately succeeding isn't something we see very much on the hitting side. Im gonna disagree with that, September hot bats have stuck the Sox with some s***ty players the following season. Josh Fields and Jerry Owens i am looking at you -
